We have had some flooding here in St. Louis, with the Missouri, Meramec, and the ole Mississippi rivers. MO even had a levy knocked down to save Cairo Il.

But good grief, what I keep hearing about NOLA and other parts of Louisiana. I keep hearing about 3000 sq miles of flood, 25 feet deep. Can this be right? That would be equal to a river 1 mile wide, 25 feet deep, stretching from LA to Washington DC...

We have had what seems to be an unusual amount of rain here in southern California. It is raining right now, and historically, we never had much rain this time of year. Must be GLOBAL WARMING, right?

I don't know the reasons, but it does seem that there are unusual flood conditions this spring? Hope everybody stays dry. Hunting should be good.

The friggin' crows are working the song bird nests, I saw them steal three baby mocking birds from next door, this morning. They scout around as singles listening for the little peeps and zero in and they get a lot of them.

We have orioles for the third season and I know because they drink the hummingbird nectar. I think they are nesting in a very tall palm tree not far away, at least they always fly off in that direction.

It's funny, we used to have gazillion crows but they were gone for maybe ten years and now they are back the past couple years. I don't like them, they are death on scrub jays and mocking birds.

At one time we only had black throated hummers but for about four seasons we also have Allen's, which are a little more aggressive. They might be 25% of the population now. Many people around here put out feeders, I have four myself.

Anyway, the rain is getting a bit more the past hour, I was thinking of checking out the yard sales today, but they won't put stuff out, it's coming down pretty steady....look out Ohio, it's coming your way!

I sprayed some dandelion killer on the weeds in my yard Thursday and then that night it started raining and has been misting/drizzle since. I guess the same thing would have happened if I washed my SUV.

We have lots of Starlings and some song birds. See cardinals pretty often.

I am wondering what effect the flood will have on the wildlife. I imagine many will expire, though some others will just overcrowd other areas.

I was also thinking about a pipeline being built from the flood areas to the desert areas, but someone else beat me to posting that idea.

I would take a flood right now. In our part of the world SE Colorado, Oklahoma Panhandle, NE New Mexico, SW Kansas and here in Texas its the driest on record.

It's high and dry here in vegas.I my self don't read or watch enough local news to know for sure but I think were in a draught of sorts.
Beats me how they can tell,I mean we only get about three inches a year.
I know Nevada is the most aired state in the lower 48.
Edit just to say I feel for all the folks in the path of all the flood waters and will lose life as well as lot of personal property As for the wild life I wonder how they do make out. I would think all wild life would head for high ground.I would think they don't all make it.Perhaps it cleans the gene pool out a little.Take this with a grain of salt, cause I'm not an expert but I would guess the wild life will bounce back fast.

Had alot of snow up here last winter and then we had some pretty warm temps that melted it a little too fast this spring.. Most of the rivers are full but water level is slowly going down.. Most every field up here has some sort of drainage system to get rid of excess water which all dumps into the miss. river and goes south...
Still getting spring rains about 2-3 times a week but only takes a day or to of sun and then everything is dry again. The farmers here are about halfway done with planting and still have about a month to finish up.. I would have to say over-all we are haveing a pretty good spring...

Man, I feel for those in the flooded out areas!

We've had an exceptionally wet & cold spring here. And upstate, my farmer friends said they'd had 19 straight days of rain in April alone. Even now, they haven't got 1/2 their fields planted 'cuz they are gumbo...

This pic is of an access road just north of the Whitney Point Reservior in central NY:

Not without scuba gear, it ain't!
I've seen that road/bridge wash over some in past years, but not to that degree...

I can only imagine how bad it a REAL flood is down in the succeptible areas around the Big Muddy. My heart goes out...

Dry as hell across much of Kansas these days. Late last week, 20k of the Cimarron National Grassland had burned and they had it maybe 50% contained. I know to the SW of me, a large area of pastures we hunt lost 4500 acres to a wildfire last week. If we get some rain, the grass will recover nicely. They have said that about 50% of KS wheat is poor to very poor condition and that across most of OK and TX a month ago, they said no amount of rain would save their crops.

Orioles will go for that nectar. Most folks around here put out grape jelly for them and they eat that up. We just need rain. This afternoon, I flushed a mama wood duck and a dozen fledgelings out of my mistletoe along the back fence and a cottontail that's been hanging close. Had a squirrel in one of my rain barrels and I hit him with a thrown rake as he made way for the power poles along the back fence. That pissed him off. I hate squirrels.
