If you did not see/hear this recently on t.v., turn up your volume and listen. The end especially will blow you away. One of THE BEST renditions of this song I have ever heard. Carrie Underwood is simply fantastic.

Al, are you kidding!!!! She is one of the most ignorant left wing animal rights wackos out there. If she were on fire, I wouldn't walk across the street to piss on her to help put it out. You need to research your singers a bit more. Carrie Underwood needs to go the way of the Dixie Chicks. I guess you are entitled to yor opinions and can spend your money as you see fit, but she will never see a nickle of mine. I get pissed when supposed country radio plays her at all. She's not country, she's pop, and she sucks at that even. And she hates everything real country people stand for including and epecially hunting.

What Cal says is true. And, that's a dilemma for me. if she was butt ugly, it would be a much easier decision [Frown] , but she is outspoken when it comes to animal rights issues - not animal welfare, animal rights - and because of that, she stands in opposition to the very folks who raised her in that small Okie town, like ranchers, hunters, outdoorsmen, and the like. My wife thinks I tend to be a bit overboard on these things, but I can't forgive celebrities their political agendas when they use that celebrity status to push their wares. I won't be buying. If you're a singer, sing. Preach what you know. Otherwise, STFU.

I did not know this? I had heard she was a vegetarian, maybe a vegan, now that I think about it?

I'm grateful, Cal. She's a cute little bitch but with her views I pretty much feel the same way; I wouldn't piss on her if she was on fire.

Those people are so screwed up, it's not funny. Animal rights is a bogus issue. Animals do not have rights and to believe that they do is a perversion of the meaning of the word.

She's poison from the word go, animal right activist, wants to stop rodeos, etc. etc.

She seems to have forgotten the core she was brought to the forefront with.

I always liked Kelly Pickler as a down to earth non phony celeb. She has been on numerous tours to Iraq and tells fart jokes, etc. Plus she's cute as a bug.

You know how Cal is the real deal opposed to say, Byron who is a celebrity and nobody can figure out why? It sure as hell ain't because he knows a lot about hunting predators. He would like you to believe he has been there and done it, but he's a fake, although not as bad as Kelly's friend.

Forgive me Lord and be with the starving pigmies, etc.

Well guys, believe it or not, Carrie Underwood's view on anything didn't enter into me sharing what I regarded as a great rendition of a wonderful song. I kind of thought Vince Gill's guitar work was outstanding too.

By the way, I didn't pay anything to see that on television.

I would have submitted this post to the political review forum before submitting it if I had known all these facts about Carrie.

By the way, did you notice that Blake Shelton gave them a standing ovation. He is an avid hunter, but I guess I can't enjoy his music anymore?

Okay, I checked with everybody and you have permission to enjoy Blake Shelton, just don't get crazy.

Far as that goes, I guess you can be a Carrie Underwood fan, understand that she's a control freak with Liberal Hollywood type world views.

Hang in there, Al.
I once made the mistake of playing an Emmy Lou Harris tape with-in hearing of some hairy legged folks who knowed me up pretty quick about her PETA support. Now I only play her stuff while skinning coyotes. Seems to make the job go a little easier.

It never ceases to amaze me how often people with a huge amount of talent can have so little common sense.

I didn't notice Blake clapping, because I didn't watch it. But kudos to him for being polite. I like Blake Sheltons views and if you want to see some funny shit, follow him on Twitter. I don't do Twitter, but my wife does and she shows me some of the stuff he writes. He absolutely hammers antis on there and is about as crude and relentless as I have ever seen. Funny stuff.

Sorry if I hurt your feelings Al. But I call them like I see them and I make it a point to drag people like Underwood through the mud every chance I get. I'm sure she would gladly return the favor if I were rich and famous, but alas..... I'm not. [Big Grin]

LB, maybe you could change Al's description to "Carrie's only fan" or something like that!

Al,don't take any shit off these guys. I don't even know who this Underwood chick is. Al I do like the old time shit like Just As I Am and Power In The Blood. But you just don't get to here songs like that here in Vegas now a days.
The church I do a tend perhaps once or twice a year has a rock band and they suck any way. They did play Slow Train Coming By Dylan one day.And I still like to here Amazing Grace a song that was wrote by a hard core slave trading low life scumbag that heard the Gospel one day and his life was changed for ever. I think that was around 300 years ago.Think I'm full of shit google it up.
Al I dig what your saying and I under stand all of the other guys points of view.

But it will be a cold day in hell before any one ever changes my mind on what and who I will listen to ever.
It is a drag about Emmy Lou for sure she does have some talent.
Linda Ron stat well they ran her ass out of Vegas.
I don't listen to any of that shit that Nashville calls country but that's just me. I do like the the old shit,Jones and Haggard and just about all the out laws. I grew up on Bob Wills and The Texas Playboys.Still dig the the shit out of Hank Sr. and Hank 3.
Hell I still like John Denver!
Well hope I can still hang around here.
Peace out dudes!

[Smile]

disclaimer: The above statements aren't meant to be taken seriously as it is a crime to steal music from liberal bitches even though they deserve it, it is meant for entertainment purposes only, sorta.

Cal, you didn't hurt my feelings at all. Neither did anyone else. I listen to what I want to, and Merle Haggard is my favorite.

Three observations to make here, well, okay, four. Since threads on this site tend to go where the wind is blowin' anyway.

First, and not bagging on tim at all, but he used the word "personnel" where he should have written "personal". LMAO when someone misspells a word and actually uses the longer, harder to spell look-alike word instead, or just adds letters for the hell of it. I used to give Kevin Lukens shit for that, too. (note: Ironically, when running spellcheck, I found that I had misspelled "misspells" above. LOL)

Second, Cal does have a point. Well stated.

Third, I had the privilege to pay much of my way through college playing old country music in a country dance band. Circle waltzes included. Lots of Hank Sr., Patsy Cline, and the like. The leader of the band played stints with some of the big names of the years prior; little known acts like Mel Tillis, Waylon Jennings and, while in the service, even played a couple shows behind Elvis Aaron Presley. We may not have been the best band in the land, but we had showmanship unlike anyone else on the circuit. LOL

And the fourth one, the closest I ever got to playing with famous folks was a set I played with most of the founding members of Highway 101 about six months after I graduated college when I went to see my old boss play with them. He wanted to dance a couple with his wife and they asked me to take his place. The only other time was the night Conway Twitty died. We were all north of Branson in a bike-riding area (motocross) on vacation when my wife got hurt. Had to have her taken in by ambulance to the hospital in Springfield. The ER was busy as hell with lots of media and press round and I could tell something was up. Later was told that Twitty had stroked out in his dressing room in Branson and they'd flown him to Cox Medical Center where he passed.

Absolutely none of this is germane to the conversation at hand, but I will add that I neglected to ask anyone their feelings on animal rights. Go figger.

Animals don't have rights. Humans have rights, Americans have rights, property owners have rights, but animals, (not even "endangered animals) do not have rights, in the legal sense of the word.

Cal, I didn't say that any of those things are not important to me, but I don't seek all that info on every entertainer, every sports figure, or every friend or acquaintance I have on forums.

If I found out that John Wayne's political views were different from mine, I don't think that would affect my opinion on his movies. If that type of thing bothers other people, that is their choice and their right. Their choice and their rights are no more important than mine.

Posted by 3 Toes (Member # 1327) on May 16, 2011, 05:34 PM:

As is your perogative Al, No problem here. But what you are saying is that if you found out tommorrow that John Wayne was a closet queer, you would continue to enjoy his movies and work? If so, you are a better man than I am. There are certain things in life that I won't tolerate. I am a complete homophobic as an example and would choose to not associate or tolerate in any way with someone that has chosen a lifestyle that I don't agree with. I am not politically correct and don't give a damn. Now, I certainly don't think John Wayne was a fag, but if he were I wouldn't watch his movies, and that is the same point I'm making with political, religious, and animal rights movements and people involved with the ones I don't personally agree with. I feel that we, as a society have to draw the line somewhere.

No problem here either, Cal. I found out years after the great movie "Giant" was made, that Rock Hudson was queer. I sure hated to hear that, but I still think Giant was a great movie and his role was a good one. It was rumored a lot that James Dean was a member of the fruit loops group. I don't know that to be a fact, but I still think he was one hell of an actor.

The thing is, these entertainers aren't content with just maintaining their views and living their own life styles. Most feel the need to 'preach' their views, and they feel their star status makes their opinions fact (as does alot of the people in our society). Very few, if any, entertainers will stand up and counter the extreme views of their fellow media stars; and no mere citizen will ever get the chance. So, boycotting someones source of income is all thats left. Besides, I was always told, the best way to get even with someone is to get in their wallet.

Al, I gotta agree wholeheartedly. Giant was a hell of a motion picture, an "epic" if there ever was one. Everybody was great in that movie, even a young Dennis Hopper. A star studded cast, for sure, and James Dean was exceptional, as was Elizabeth Taylor, in her prime. Rock did good, boy he sure had me fooled as to his orientation.

Put me down as somewhat affected by people's beliefs, I wouldn't piss on Obama if he was on fire, even if he was the greatest actor since Lionel Barrymore.

Actors play "roles" the good ones play them very well and make us 'believe' it. Liking a movie and a "role" does not ,mean you approve of the actors life style or character. When actors go political they become human and I'd like to kick Alec Baldwins ass!!!!

I'm only 20 miles from TX so there you have it.

The worst beer was and maybe still is Brown Derby. When you opened one there was a puzzle on the inside of the cap. When you couldn't figure out the puzzle, it was past time to stop.

On the other hand Pearl and Lone star is real good beer. Don't believe me well just try some falstaff or Stag. And yes 3.2 is just for washing down the hard stuff.

In 1978 I did work on a road boring crew.
I used to roughneck on a jack knife double,Thomas Drilling Rig#5. I think they were out of Ducan.
A bout that road boring job,it was in january I had to get up way before the crack of dawn. And for any one that does not know the wind blows in Oklahoma,It blows both ways north and south. Will Rogers was right when he said if you don't like the weather just wait a minute it will change.we would drive to that job and back to Enid every day.A long with my regular job I had to snag ten gallons of gas every day to off set our over head.I can't help to laugh about that, how much was gas back then 58 cents maybe 62 cents. Come to think of it I was always the guy that had to get the fuel. All my drillers had diesel trucks just to get some free fuel.the driller would say feel my truck up to day,but don't let that company man catch you.Hell half the time the company man was helping me.

Speaking of "Grapes of Wrath" Every kid should have to watch that. To see the struggle that many of their ancestors or relatives had to go through, to see that things weren't handed to them...it should be required reading and watching. My dad made me watch it, and I will make my kids watch it. Is there anything more motivating than being at the edge of the cliff fighting to provide for your family, without a government net beneath you?
