we've been planning on building this for a few year but just hav'nt got it done. well the other day i was gonna start a siding job but the weatherman was calling for high winds and the job was in the open. i was pondering what to do for the dayand checked my wallet and found out i had an extra grand just sitting therei decided on a whim to start our cabin. well, here is 3 days worth. Denise and my dad were on hand also. it's gonna be a small 14x14. with a 6 x14 deck . if your wonering why so small???? cuz i don't want much company. this is being built on the front edge of our property. i have a bit of apprehention because i know it won't do our hunting any good but oh well. we'll still get our deer. the whole visable exterior will be cedar. should be a cute shack when done. i'll update with pics as progress allows.

Cool. Reminds me of the little cabins the Germans build in the forest.
A little mosquito repellent and you are all set. That's my lasting impression of Minnesota summers, blood thirsty skeeters and decent fishing. I wish I knew, back then, that suckers make a good bait. Worms and minnows, minnows and worms.

LB, 3 weeks ago, the river was flooded enuff where we coulda casted off the deck and caught fish. thats the reson for building it on stilts.3 years in a row of record type flooding is really starting to suck. also, thats one of the MAIN reasons i started it now. in another month we won't be able to hardley spend time back there (skeeteres)clouds of them

Nice! The deer will likely get used to it after a time. Just put food plots and salt licks nearby. Hell, I live in town and we have deer in the field behind our house some days. Rather than a "cabin", think "elevated blind". ![[Wink]](wink.gif)

"Elevated blind"... Lance, I like the way you think.
That's going to be a sweet little cabin!
Looks like a pretty solid three days work, too!!! It just feels good when you build something like that with your own hands... good job. Keep us updated.

Glad you got a good start on your cabin, Bearhunter. Nice looking work. Better to be built up on the stilts than floating away.

I drew two lines, completely scientific. One, the porch and the other, the pooch. If his eyes are level, and I have no reason to suspect they are not, then the cabin is off by quite a few degrees.

Which pooch? according to the pooch in front, it's out of level but the one underneath proves that it's spot on. It's very inconclusive, he should recalibrate both dogs and recheck it.

Oh yeah? Well, what about the dude in the blue tee shirt leaning against the side? I can see that the whole structure could fall over, at any minute if he don't get out of there!

got a good start on the deck/siding today. cedar is a bit expensive so not quite sure if i'll get it all done soon. planning on putting a roof over the deck??? will se how the funds are. i would also like t/g pine on the interior. that might hafta wait abit. overall i like the way its all coming together. not big but hopefully will be kinda "homey" when done. how's that Leonard?? look a bit more level???

Looks great. I was just kidding anyway. I go by the 600MPH redneck rule. If you can tell that it's out of plumb in a jet plane at 36.000 ft, you maybe need to tweak it a bit. Otherwise, it's good enough.
1)How many bedrooms? 2)I hope you didn't forget an indoor potty? 3)Where will the pool table go? 4)You do need a benchrest on that porch. 5)one word: BEAVERS!

Looks like quite the kick ass hunting shack. Will it have windows or a wood stove. Has to be better then the canvas wall tents we use for deer and elk camp. Although I cant complain to bad about the tents, they get comfy after a few days.

Cover the whole outside with rusty tin and old license plates. It'll look like a moonshiner's shack. Then you can forget the porkies and beavers and worry about the revenuers.
Looks to be skunk proof, too. That doesn't hurt.
