Purchased one the other day.
I don't mind "commercials" at the beginning of a DVD, sponsors, take care of them, I get it. This particular video had logos and banners splashing the screen every 20 seconds. Show a call, banner ad for caller. Show a guy in camo, banner ad for camo. Make a shot, banner ad for scope. Miss a shot, no banner ad for gun or scope. I will never purchase another video made by this individual again. I turned it off and will likely use the disc as a coaster.

Not too illuminating, my friend. Surely, a holder of the coveted Special Permit ain't skeerd to name names?

I'm not scared to name names, but I won't, unless I'm coerced with donuts or Moose Tracks ice cream.
I brought it up mainly because it disgusted me. The commercialization of EVERYTHING is sickening.

Uh, Smithers, We want information before we go out and waste our time & money on what sounds like a new low in the dvd market.

I hate commercials at the beginning of movies, TV shows and especially hunting DVD's! Put that crap at the end so I can watch it if I want to be enlightened but don't try to force feed me that shit!
Come on Smithers... you have to tell us!

Okay smithers, do you want somebody with an infected testicle riding your sorry ass? Every word you utter, every thought, every action, every day, 24/7?
Don't make me do it, bro. He's tanned and rested and eager.

While we're waiting on Mr. Burns' sidekick Smithers to play coy...................
My Evil Daughter recently sent me 'The Complete Fred Bear Collection' for whatever the latest gifting occasion that she missed was. Eight hours of Fred Bear's classic hunts. Mostly film narrated by 'the voice'. Somewhat hokey at times by today's standards, but I think that some of today's video superstars could learn from it. If you're into archery in general and traditional archery in particular this set is worth the $35.00.

Mark Zepp... I have 2 earlier videos by him and they're good, with no schlock commercials or banners. This one is just a huge despicable commercial and was made in 2010. "Buttes, Coulees, Thunderclouds and Banner Ads" From what I could see, w/out the banners distracting me, was not enough to hold my attention, bored me to tears plus pissed me off.

If you have seen Cal Taylor's "Going to the dogs", and ELK's "Dogging Coyotes", there is no need to buy another calling video. Except for those two, the rest are all the same, just different actors.

Mr. Cronk, I have Cal's video and love it. I have a dozen others. This is the first one that I've seen done in this manner.
Edit: Give me fist pumps, high fives, break dancing and hip gyrating in lieu of ads. [ April 12, 2011, 07:22 AM: Message edited by: smithers ]

Holy shit Smitters!!! You rotten sonofabitch!!! WTF is wrong with you, did your mom drop you on your head or something? You sheep lovin' bastard!
I'm just playin. Those are special words that I reserve for t-bag, I think these guys kinda miss the dumb sumbitch for some strange reason.
I don't think Smithers said anything about Mark as a person, just that his video is full of commercials, thanks for the heads up smitters, I hate that sort of stuff too. I agree with Niko, put it at the end.

Hmmm, I was guessing as I read down before smithers revealed the maker. Zepp was not even on my radar. Just goes to show what I've contended all along....If you're gonna try to make a living at this shit, you've gotta sell your soul to the devil (read $$$$) along the way. Sad, but true.
Edit: As for the hi-5s and such...it's just an expression of emotion. Some folks are more expressive than others. I'm pretty much always pleased with myself at the end of a successful stand, but I'm by myself most of the time, so that emotion I'm feeling is tempered. When I'm with a partner, depending on what happened, there could be an exhibition or outburst. Just a way of sharing the experience with a friend. There are those who play to the camera, too. Some of us are bigger hams than the next guy. That's obvious when you pull out a video camera around people anytime, anyplace. Hell, I've seen tits come out from women I would have never guessed when a camera is added to the right mix.
What I can't stand is the manufactured emotions displayed by mostly big game guys in their "after the kill" recap. Tom Miranda comes to mind. I've thought that guy was going to weep at times. Makes me wanna puke. But make no mistake, when I get to the point that it stops giving me a thrill, that's when I'll stop doing it. I shot a lion a couple years ago when I was by myself, and looking back, I'm real happy that there wasn't a camera around to catch my antics. I would have never lived it down, lol. If you're looking for gyrating hips, bad dancing and creative editing you need to spend the $$ and look at the Coyote Behavior DVD.

Sorry Jay, already have your video. Very enjoyable. If you're hurting for cash I'll buy another.
Edit: Love Zepp's calls, don't know him but hear he's a great guy. The other two vids I have by him are great. Commentary only on his latest video.

Listen, Amigo.
Jay owns a hunting product empire, he's sorta like a Conglomerate and has almost as much money as Dan, (the man). He could care less if you bought several hundred additional copies of his video. He buys a new white truck whenever it runs out of gas. He has been known to lend money to Cindy McCain so she can meet payroll. Jay ain't hurting, in fact, he practically owns Oklahoma.

The ones I love the best are those that after most kill's, tell's you the gun,the bullet, the scope, the camo, the call and the butt wipe all used to make this a succesful hunt ![[Big Grin]](biggrin.gif)

euh, that could be Les Johnson, huh? But, I like Les and if that's what he has to do to keep the lights on, I 'spose I can tolerate it. I think it's irritating, but it happens at an appropriate break in the action. I was told that he doesn't make a lot on that TV show, once expenses are factored in. Maybe he needs a sponsor with really deep pockets? Dan, (the man)?

You know tv shows have commercials to pay the bills cause we don't pay to watch tv, well except some of those special sheep shows smithers watches.
What I don't understand is why we actually pay for a dvd and still get commercials? I mean if you want us to listen to the subliminal messages and buy your product, then give the things away.
If your dvd offers nothing of interest then maybe you shouldn't produce it... running to a company with deep advertising pockets only inflates that company's prices.
But my last video was either Rich Higgins' or Uncle Jay's. I might have to buy another one now that Tim ain't posting here though.

Jimanaz, re-enact the lion antics and email it to all of us:)
I don't care for the talking about bullets, scopes, rifles and calls that made for the magic moment but I can turn the tv down. When it's splattered on the screen I can't ignore it.
The over commercialization started to really get on my nerves when the 7th inning stretch was brought to me by so-and-so and the replays were brought to me by so-and-so. Let's take a Gatorade time out...
Edit: Tom, all sheep porn is commercial free. That's why I'm such a dyed- in- the- wool fan ![[Wink]](wink.gif) [ April 12, 2011, 04:57 PM: Message edited by: smithers ]

Ehhh, no. I'll just say that there was an awful lot of monologue going on and I have no idea whether it was audible or not. Probably some of each. Enough fist pumping to carry a handfull of new DVDs, no weeping though, lol. There may have been a few skips going back to my truck, however.
Couldn't even take decent pictures, lol.
