Have seen some discussion here about cs24 issues.. I have troulble with the remote on mine being totally erratic when in sub freezing weather.. Buttons don't respond or to the incorrect selection.. Pretty much useless.. Seem to go away and work normally when warm. If this is the way the remote works in cold weather , it is pretty much useless to me.. Anyone experienced this problem thanks

Haven't experienced that but around 20 degrees is as cold as I've used it in.

Might try Lithium batteries to see if it's a battery issue, Lithium isn't affected by the cold.

I did figure out a problem I had, sometimes my remote would just not work. I figured out to turn the remote on then the caller and it hasn't failed me yet.

But a call to Foxpro will get you fixed I bet.

I've hunted with mine in -40ºF temperatures and it worked from the keypad just fine. The LCD screen gets real sluggish in those temperatures and I don't use it, but my 10 presets work fine from the keypad. It should be working for you in the cold, not sure what's going on. I'm running Energizer Ultimate Lithium's and they work excellent.

6mm284 Don't feel bad you are not the only one haveing problems with the remote and caller. It seems like more and more owners are poppping up everyday with the same problems. Maybe a life supply of heat packs should be a standard issue with them when you buy one.
I believe Wooky mentioned one time his remote works great, now he says it does get a little sluggish. Wonder what else he is'nt telling us.... [Roll Eyes]

Tim,
The remote works in the cold reliably for me the way I run it. I don't scroll and send from the LCD screen so it's not an issue. It's head and shoulders above all of my WT's since they all break something in the cold and are useless for me. If you want to prove the WT is better in the cold, take your 2030 at -30ºF and let it sit in the cold for a few hours. Then try to put the antenna up and let me know how that works out for you. Until you really hunt in the cold and know what it does to gear, you should really keep your unproven ideas to yourself.

Not everyone lives in a area that see's -30 temps. and these guys are the one's haveing the issues with there callers. Don't have to be a expert to figure that out...As for the WT anntenna have you tried useing the caller without putting the anntenna up???

6mm284,
There is in fact a problem with some of the TX500 remote controls failing in extreme cold. You should call Foxpro and report the problem. They will have you send it in for repair at no charge to you. It is a pain in the arse I know. Mine has been working OK but I am going to ask them to check it out anyway. I have to send mine in to have a new feature installed that I will be testing, so might as well have them check it to be sure I don't have a potential problem waiting to happen. Don't pay any attention to TA, he is a WT koolaide drinker. He probably doesn't realize that Martz hasn't even bothered to install a five cent device in their unit that would protect the innards against being fried if you accidently reverse the polarity when installing the batteries. [Wink]

TA,
Yep, I tried with the antenna down and the range was horrible. Even a hard hit to that exposed wire in the cold snaps the thing Tim. I can't strap it to the back of the snowmachine and just go hunt like I can with the CS-24. It's a horrible design, plain and simple. If you think it's a good design, you need help.

All companies go through product bugs and problems, even WT. It's just that there are probably 1 WT sold for every 1000 FoxPro's sold and the FP crowd won't be castrated for talking about their product issues online. I've heard about quite a few WT issues that guys never mention online.

I'm sure if this was a big problem he would have done so, but why change it just for one guy. Neg. end goes to the spring side, not to hard to remember.. [Wink]

I run my CS24 probably more than most and haven't had any problems with cold yet. But I don't do much calling at -20. But down to zero or so I don't see much for issues. But most stuff isn't real reliable in the cold. Even hand calls are pretty tough to use in real cold. But as stated, if you are having some real issues, I would talk to FoxPro. They seem to be pretty good at solving problems when they arrise.

I will talk to them , this thing seems to be affected by even moderate(teens) temperature.. This morning it locked up, I put in inside my shirt for a few minutes and then it started doing its own thing without any input from me. Changes sounds volume and sequence all on its own. Screen is bright and clear as all this occurs so don't believe it to necessary be a voltage issue. Took it out of my shirt and within a minute it locked up again . For the cost I am surely not impressed with its function.. Foxpro seems to have become more interested in introducing one new product after another than with one reliable product.. thanks all

Amen on that!

Based on what I have experienced, and granted, a limited sample....the TX500 remote seems cold sensitive, to me. The colder it is, the more the selector switch seems to skip whole pages, and other times, not move the display, at all, despite a whole series of felt clicks. In other words, the rotation of the switch is nowhere linear, sometimes it takes 6 clicks to move on sound and other times a single click can scroll several pages, other times, it works normal.

So, far, it's a quirk, rather than a major issue.

Good hunting. LB

For what it's worth, my older TX200 remote worked fine in the -1 degree temperature I called in the other night.

Sometimes, if it ain't broke don't fix it.

my tx500 has the same issues. i have talked to Joe at foxpro and he said to send it in. apparently, they have a new(better) screen to replace it with. 6mm284. the problems you are haveing (TA showed me how to spell that) [Wink] is a common problem and can be fixed with a phone call.
TA brings out the Jergins lotion and paper towels whenever this subject comes up [Eek!]

Mine has performed flawlessly to date as well. Down to single digits temperature wise. We have had a fairly mild winter this year.

Thanks all,, called FP yesterday three times, but got the busy signal each for customer service. Hope that is an indicator of lack of customer service personel and not an overwhelming need of customer service. Also tried lithium batteries to no avail, same results.. Glad to hear that some of you are having no problems. I like the sounds and the audio quality over my 512.. that transmitter has never caused any problems other than the keypay is a little less freindly, but definitely simpler.

I think "tech support" will get you Joe a lot faster. I have not had unreasonable delays? On hold, but never a busy signal.
