Did a little lurking around last night and stumbled back on Predatormasters. Yes, I am in the banned category but for some reason was able to view the site.
Looks like the PM boys are still going strong. After reading all the garbage on HM, Desert Hunter and the deceased Predator Monsters, a logical fellow would assume that the likes of Dan Carey and his land of the banned posse crashed and burned the servers of PM, raped and pillaged the village and beheaded the emporeror and his court. No personal shot at you, Dan, I'm a past client of yours, but I'd suggest that you stick to your gunsmithing, not internet smearing.
But, let me get back on track and say Not so fast, my friend! Looks like things are going well over there and the same powers that be are large and in charge. The notorious Red Frog is still very active, B Bar and Mock, can't forget Java4, plus other active moderators. The site is alive and well and still puts out the very BEST in predator hunting information. Pretty obvious who the bad guys were and it ain't the above mentioned. If you've ever been banned over there, chances are that you greatly deserved it. If you could go back in time, I'd suggest, or maybe as Glen Campbell sang, "try a little kindness"
I'm going to draft an email apologizing for my past actions on that site and comments I've made on other sites, will beg for forgiveness and hope to hell to get reinstated.
Hands down STILL THE BEST DAMN predator hunting site!
I'll see you over at PM

I havent posted on that site for about a year. After some of the people on there was bashing a guy for hunting with 20 cal and smaller on yote & fox. At first i thought it was some people joking with him. Wrong on my part. Never did see the mods there do any thing about it.I just dont think its right to bash what some one likes to hunt with it may be all they got or can aford. But what the hell do i know i am still a young pup.

imho, sites like Huntmasters are ok. True, you guys really just chew the fat and piss and moan, while Predatormasters gets down to the nitty gritty of the sport of predator hunting. HM is a 'home' for banned, misinformed and just plain amateurs. Everybody needs a home.
Honestly, not alot of knowledge to be learned on this site. Your greatest hunter may in fact be Andy L., the 4'-11" version of "Dog the Bounty Hunter". This foul mouthed Napololeon sounds like he at least attempts to hunt once a year. The rest of you 'type' about hunting 365 days a year.
Andy L., I submit your name for Huntmasters Hunter of the Year! I also have a job offer that someone wants me to pass on to you: the Chulua County Carnival is looking for a participant for the dwarf tossing contest. you IN?

True story Andy, I had some hunters here a few years ago that have one of the private "skybox" (whatever they are) at Bristol. Said I could go and have it whenever. Never did. Not really into Nascar. Pretty much got an open invite to any race I want with BassPro. Guess I should go sometime. Drives some of my wifes family nuts that I don't because they are race fanatics.

I have only been a member on PM since May '01. Those nutsucks just can't handle it when someone speaks truth. It for sure isn't what it use to be. I was a model member there until about 4 years ago. Got to the point where I couldn't handle all the deceitful shit going on there and the canned praise along with the Foxpro mafia running things. Got banned a couple times and had several nasty grams. Quit going there much and have only been visiting about 3 or 4 times per year. There are a hell of a lot more real coyote hunters NOT on predator masters than those that do coyote hunt. Most (95%) are just internet heroes. You have Mock, Frog, Barry the Fairy, Java and a host of others that talk a good game, but that's about it.
They constantly regurgitate the same bullshit they have been reading on that phony, bullshit site for years.
I am truly glad they permenently banned me so I can feel truly free to say any damn thing I want to about them. I kept my standing so I could check out what was for sale. Now all bets are off.
I would appreciate anyone letting me know who this Gene Charne faggot really is, so I can return the favor. You can email me at hobie66@ymail.com

Leonard, I'm peeved because twice now, that I've seen. You have allowed a new guy to come in and immediately start throwing cyber punches at long time members.
That Sir would indicate that you could give a shit less about long time members.
You might be surprised that some guys have had, your back on other sites. Yet you allow these mentioned individuals to come in and "smack" your membership.
If I spotted a trouble maker on another site, thats simply "irrelevant"
You had the opportunity, to blow them out and support the guys who stick with you. You failed to do so.

Okay, I see where you're coming from. It is not my intention to abuse or allow the members to be disrespected, I guess I'm just hung up on free speech. You know, the one about I may not agree with you but I will defend your right to express yourself/paraphrasing, and a bad job of it to boot.

Lot of that going around lately. Douche bags posting under multiple user names from the same IP, that is.
Bad enough when they are just bad actors at every turn. But at least somebody like that, you just chalk them up as one more worthless shit stirring jack ass. The worlds full of 'em, easy enough to ignore one more.
It's the ones who act "normal" under one username and act like a completely different person showing their true fukwad colors under a different user name that crack me up though. Just as easy to spot as the first type. But, it is kind of entertaining, actually, to see them making posts acting like a "good guy" under one name and knowing it's the same two faced worthless fuk that is posting under the other name. All the while, the idiot not realizing how many people actually know exactly who they are and what they are up to. Especially when it's someone who you know their real name and where they really live that is doing it.
Mostly makes me wonder how much it must suck to be them, to have nothing better to do, or to be getting their rocks off with such moronic juvenile stuff.
Idiots, no matter how you slice it.

Agree. Total mystery why grown men act like assholes on the Internet. Like Robb Krause said; "Because I can" is pathetic. Because he can. Makes him a worthless sob, in my book. People that go to extreme lengths to hide their identity so they can say and do things they could never get away with, face to face, are complete cowards. No other word for it.

Just goes to prove what has been said about Mock, Java, Barry the Fairy, Redfag and a whole host of other wannabes at PMS. They are pitiful pussies that aren't man enough to say anything to your face. They have to sneak around and solicit responses from people. Some would call that entrapment, I call it being a pussy.
Must've really bothered them when I reminded them that Mock didn't like taking a crap alone and that he needed "special attention" while doing it.
PMS will be no loss to me, but I love it when they do cowardly shit like this. Just proves my point every time.

Someone is missing a great money making possibility here... imagine a pre-registration site that could record your true identity before you could join an online forum!
Sure would end a lot of drama! These keypad dickwads would cease to exist if they couldn't post in obscurity without impunity!
I like the way George Ackley, Dan Carey, Dave Allen and a few others use their real names. I don't use my name but I sure don't hide who I am. Nikonut... AKA, Tom Ciambella!
What the heck, very few can even spell Nikonut right, imagine trying to spell Ciambella!

He said words to the effect that I could take his name off the list of suspects. There have been anonymous and untraceable emails from a couple of helpful souls stating that PMS backroom staff is yucking it up and also that they are the source. Again, these emails say that the purpose is to coax negative comments about PMS and use those comments as justification for banning them from their board. As Bopeye has said, it has a certain ring of truth, and he got the axe right away for a few negative comments.
However, it could be part of the plan. All orchestrated by the same source. Now, why they would go to such trouble, when they have never needed justification, in the past, this is beyond my understanding?
Andy has been getting a few emails too. The charge is along the same general theme, the fab four are responsible, it's a huge plot aimed at members they don't like.
I am not accusing their star chamber, just relating what is said in these (4) emails. Hard to believe. I give them a little more credit than to stoop to this shit.

I really feel sorry to disappoint these guys, but I gotta be a hard ass.
Now, who? What kind of juvenile gets their rocks off by giving out someone's name, etc. They say, well isn't this your phone number? Yeah, it's my number, but so what? I'm in the book, anybody can find my number if they can spell my name.
It would be amusing, but the intellect of these jerks is pathetic. Like when I was ten and used to call the drug store and ask if they have Prince Albert in a can. Teh hee How clever!

"Topic: I think the boys at PM won the war"
What utter bullshit, written by a certifiable moron. Just what the hell did the boys at predator masters sucks win? The way I see it they got in one hell of a fight in the back room beat the shit out of each other, some quit, some got their ticket punched and some left with their tails between their legs. My main object was to fuck that pussgutted bastard out of the chairman of the board and the presidency of pms. That my friends was a happening. I laughed for weeks!
So who were the combatants? Who in the hell said the war was over, some low live pms suckass? The war is over, when I and only I say it is. Nondescript assholes like you have no part in what has happened or what will happen in the future, I don't give a shit who you are, you can't do shit that would count in this war! I have forced more changes at pms in the last two years than all the years the shithole has been in existence. You can run your mouth all you want it won't change anything. I call the shots in this fucking war. Those fucktards running pms are just toys to be played with. For your reading pleasure I have copied a post I wrote at another site.
" I was bitter when they banned me, I recovered fast then the mean came out in me. I post there daily, some of the dumbest shit you could ever read, have yet to get banned with those names. However, when I carpet bomb some asshole they ban immediately. Who cares, its all just for the fun factor. I have made a game of screwing with their heads on a regular basis. I could only guess how many hundreds of hours they have spent on the phone discussing ME, how cool is that? Screw those low life, no life MF'ers."

From the outside looking in, your post above does not speak well of your character.

Well, some truth and wisdom in that advice, brief as it is. And, I mean Joe and Dan's.
We can't stop looking at a train wreck and PMS has much to apologize for as the 800 pound gorilla in the room. I wonder if there are as many former members that have a negative view of that board, as they have happy customers? Probably not as many that have a hate approaching the level of Dan's, but still significant animosity.
Here's an interesting thought. Do they know, and do they care? I feel like HM has a purpose, a positive benefit for those that choose to participate. I would shut it down real fast if I thought it was just an ugly cancerous tumor on the predator hunting world. I'm not sure if PMS is approaching that kind of reputation, nor am I the best judge. But, if those guys think they are doing God's work, that is beyond the pale. Maybe the sole purpose is to generate revenue, I guess that's understandable? Do they care about their negatives?
I care that people like this Board. It's simple, easy to understand, manageable as a one man enterprise, for the most part.
Are PM's customers happy as a clam? Depends on their level of awareness, I suppose? But, do the fab four think they are delivering the best possible product? I wonder? What do you think, Gene? They winning? You really think so?

"Used to be a custom call had to first sound great,"
Agree - but it is subjective too. When a guys says he got a call from call maker so and so and it is the "best call he ever heard" do you ever wonder "how many calls HAVE you heard? Didn't you just start coyote hunting about 3 months ago?"
How come no one ever ask that question?
"have a handmade toneboard"
Not entirely necessary now, there are some excellent commercial tone boards out there. There are some dogs too. The real problem is not the molded or commercial tone board, it is when 20 guys use the same tone boards in their calls. A hunter could end up having 20 different looking calls that all sound exactly alike. Hand made tone boards for the most part don't have that problem, and for that reason, are a plus, but not necessary for the hunter who just wants one good call or two and does his homework and ask questions of the call maker. Molded boards are not "bad". Every plastic commercial call has a "molded" tone board, and some are pretty darn effective. Crit R Call come to mind?
"or tuned JC reed"
This is pretty much a myth. Unless you are calling in a contest, all the reed needs to do is not lock up and be able to sound like something in distress. Unless you want us to believe that all rabbits sound exactly alike, or that only western coyotes respond to jackrabbit sounds and eastern ones to cottontail sounds, all a hunter needs is one low, one medium and one high pitched sounding call that doesn't lock up and can be made to sound like something hurt. That's really all the tuning that needs to be done for "hunting".
We've all called coyotes with commercial closed reed calls from Primos, Lohman, Knight and Hale, and others, and I can assure you that none of them were "tuned", but they all called critters.
"was never Glossy"
If it is a true custom call, that is the buyers choice.
Pilgrims calls were highly sought after works of art, and his finishes were like glass....
If I recall, Rhino calls had a pretty nice finish as well.
So did the few of yours you posted Tom.
Finish is the customers choice, and the old saw that "pretty doesn't call coyotes" is just an excuse for making ugly calls.
"and when the guys said, "Nice Turn"... it was! Just not the same now!"
I agree. It's better. What you see for the most part today, are the same 20 or so guys on the same two or three boards, selling calls. Don't judge what you see on these boards as what is going on in the call making hobby. There are dozens of very talented call makers out there making beautiful custom predator calls. More so than ever before. Some are carved, some painted, some laminated, some checkered. A good many of them never post a call on a coyote hunting board. But their work is flawless and the calls works of art. You know one Tom, his name is Brian Byers. Have you seen his checkered open reeds? I could name two dozen predator call makers whose work would make you go "WOW" that never post on a predator board.
Yup, there are a lot of guys "peddling" calls today. Some will grow and become greats, some will give it up, and some will never do anything other than plug and stuff in a fancy barrel and still come out with serviceable working calls. But the hobby as a whole is getting much better, and the call makers much more talented.

The problem with call makers on P.M. and other predator boards is the canned praise. If you have never heard the call, there is no way you can know how "good" it is. With the enclosed reed models you are pretty safe because of the enclosed J.C. reed. Open reed models are a whole different ball game. Buy your calls from a well known builder.

Great post Al!
Especially coming from one of the finest callmakers I've known... a mentor to many past and current callmakers including myself!!!
We both know this topic could be expanded and go on almost endlessly. You covered it pretty quickly and yet in some detail. I was trying to make a very broad statement.
You are absolutely right, though! It's a small world if you don't venture past these few predator hunting sites. There are beautiful calls being made that never get seen on the internet! I happen to own a few myself! I also have quite a few THO's that haven't been seen online in a very long time!
... and I sure don't mind being corrected when its by someone with your experience!
On the point of toneboards and tuned reeds, also right on spot. CNC'd and even cast boards can be excellent! I may have to order some of your toneboards! I hate cutting them for hunting calls and I know yours are right on.
I've always believed the JC reeds used in many commercial calls are actually "bladed"(tuned) right from JC! It used to say so on his website.
I just talked to BrianB the other day, very talented guy! I've been meaning to give you a call, too.
Oh ya... those calls work!
I'm very glad to see you posting here Al! Take Care!

Geez Tom - trying to embarrass a man? Those calls must be 6 - 7 years old. Maybe a bit more.
These are some newer ones, from maybe two years ago.
I just don't make that many calls anymore, and those that I do end up being given to guys around here or sold in local shops. There are a lot of call makers who do the same thing. A lot of fine duck and turkey call guys make some great looking predator calls, and, based on their reputations as master turkey or duck call makers, they probably sound very nice as well.
Anyway, thanks for posting those oldies. It almost hurts to look at them now, although I do have a couple from back in "the day" that I still use.
Mr. Leonard, I don't know if it is the same Pilgrim that was at your camp out or not, but he make some of the best looking calls ( I never heard one so I wont say they sounded good, but I would bet my hat that they did ) ever shown on the boards.

Ya Leonard, that's what you keep saying but those two coyotes came in to about 15ft and stood looking right at me for about a minute! Every time they would turn away I'd hit them with a real soft tone from one of those THO calls... maybe they were just laughing at me! They died laughing if that's true! That's the same pic I posted a long time ago that got you laughing and why you gave me my sigline!

Hey Al, I think a bit more! I'm not sure but that top left one might be one of your first ones sold on PM! I have several more THO enclosed reeds and a few open reeds as well!
Katie brought me her "Candy Cane" call a while back for safe keeping, Emily can't find hers, but hopefully it will show up! Those are the ones made from "Corian". You sent both of my girls one as Christmas presents many years ago. They were in grade school then... Katie graduates from HS this year!
I have a "Pilgrim" call tucked away with it's polishing cloth and fancy cloth storage bag. I can't remember his name right now either! It's got the shipping address on the box if I can find it... One of his signatures was to send you the call wrapped in the soft cloth originally used to polished the call!

Edit: "Candy Cane" doesn't sound right... was it "Cotton Candy"? Very pretty red, white, and blue open reed.

Don't know what it is called, but that was my very first hand call, it's all chewed to hell from biting down on it and I have not actually used it in a long time, but the plastic ones, (Circe's) suit me fine, just as well. Like a Havatampa cigar, I can chew on it for a long time after it burns out, still a lot of flavor in it.
Good hunting. LB
PS If I knew who invented Treebark, I'd have him taken out and shot.

El Bee;
The Circe calls use the 'pipestem' type of mouthpiece. The plastic Sceery calls also use that design. I think that it was invented by the guy who first made TreeBark Camo.

The calls do resemble duck calls, and I admit to being heavily influenced in some of my call making by the duck call makers. It is a fair and accurate observation. They are not as large as duck calls though. Most have a 1/2 inch bore while most duck calls have a 5/8 or even some 3/4. The larger the bore on a predator call, I find the harder it is to control the call.
As for the mouth piece. When I started trying to call coyotes, I had 4 calls. 3 of them were from Lohman, and one was a Primos Raspy Cottontail.
The Lohman calls all had a small hole in the mouth piece where the reed went in. The Primos call was just a 1/2 inch tube with a rubber busing in it to hold the reed.
They all worked just fine until it got really cold here, by cold I mean below 0. Then the Lohman calls would freeze up after just a few seconds. The Primos would last a little longer. The only difference I could see was the mouth piece on the Primos was more open. When I started making calls, I had the same problem. I started opening up the mouth piece bit by bit and the freezing up seemed to take longer. It never went away, but I could blow them for 30 seconds or so before they did.
I also found that trying to control a call with a small hole for a mouth piece was harder for me. I had a difficult time varying the cadence and inflection when calling. The more I opened the mouth piece up, the easier this became. The calls seemed easier to blow, and worked better with less air.
And again, your observation is right on, they are like blowing a trombone. It's just something that seemed to work for me and the way I called. Some guys will like the style and some will hate it.
I appreciate your honesty and critique.

What size do you wear, LB? I have this great "dessert wait" pair of coveralls that need "usin".....
Neat camo pattern, too.........
