Just a few new parts and he's a new man.
For those of you who don't know, Mike got a pancreas and kidney transplant a year or so ago. A great turn around for sure!!

Randy,
Not to leave you out, good job, too.
Leonard,
Randy would have won, but Tim got ten extra points for being all decked out in camo so the targets couldn't see him back.
(Sorry, Tim. I couldn't resist.)

Yeah Randy shot real well, well enough that he don't need to have a back-up shooter on stand like some guys I know.
( Sorry Cdog could'nt resist.)

Hey Tim...
Did Charlie Bland and Dave Boyer get back out there to shoot? I was just curious, one or the other has been in the final four since it began. Both are great guys and very good shooters.
I think Charlie won the award last year.

Tim, were you able to use the bucket? And were you allowed to shoot leaning over the truck hood?
Just kidding. Im proud of you and Randy both. Hell of a job.
Posted by Cdog911 (Member # 7) on September 26, 2010, 06:01 AM:
Not a problem, Tim. I guess I've never thought of Kevin or Matt as back ups, since there's only been one instance in six years where I needed either of them to follow me up on a hit coyote. Instead, I prefer to think of them as good friends with whom I enjoy spending my time afield. Because of that camaraderie, I find that the times I hunt alone are because I choose to, not because no one else will hunt with me without me having to hit the ATM first.
Speaking of choices, I'm also deeply thankful that, although my home ground looks very similar to your own, I don't have to go someplace else to be able to call and kill coyotes when all I really have to do is buckle down and decipher why the home coyotes don't respond like they do in the big rangeland country, then figure out how to work around that and kill some fur.
Sorry, Tim. I couldn't resist either.
And, yes, Shaw is quite a good shot.

Tim, I know Wiley was chargin you $500 to take you hunting and see if you absorbed it. Will you be taking out hunters now and if so, how much will you be gettig? Im sure the title will up the price quite a bit. Post this on PM classifieds and you might be surprised and have a new job.

I think Charlie won the award last year.
Neither one showed up this year for the contest since they had to change the dates due to rain.
Yes Charlie has won or placed a few times in Mr. coyote and he also took a 4th in some other shooting contest a few years back. I did a search and did not find anything on Dave B. but I only looked a few years back in the records..

Oh I kicked around the idea of doing a P.D. guide service, problem was some clients want to shoot coyotes also so I dropped that idea..
I guess I'm a little selfish when it comes to coyotes, I don't take too many hunters into my area. If someone else wants to call and kill coyotes they have to go and find there own areas to do it in just like I did years ago.
There is good money in it though but I'm not interested.

, I know Wiley was chargin you $500 to take you hunting and see if you absorbed it.
For the record I did'nt pay Scott to go hunting with. I paid Scott for a service he was provideing and that was instruction for calling coyotes, very simular to a O"gorman instruction class on trapping.
I was refered to Scott from another member here that also has taken instruction from Scott, the other member that refered Scott thought that Scott could up my game as far as calling and working coyotes goes. He was right and the money was well spent.
Scott dose'nt just take anyone for instruction and the money paid is just for his time that he has to take off from work, kinda like Cal when he guides for antelope or Randy R. that guides for pheasant hunters..
You could also look at it this way I paid 500.00 to help up my game and some have spent thousands of dollars for collage to learn about animals and this has done nothing to improve there game they are still struggleing.. ![[Roll Eyes]](rolleyes.gif)

TA17rem, congradulations on your Mr. Coyote title.
Did you also go to that predator university in New Mexico for some training? The guys that have gone there say that Tony Tebbe can up your game better than anybody. I once read where you have never been able to call a coyote in your home area. Did the lessons change that?
Again congrats. Later

No I have not gone to TT's university. LOL
TT dose'nt have much exsperiance so it wouldbe a waste of my time and money, also you have to look at the area he does most of his calling. TT has alot of stupid coyotes to work with so he can make a pro out of most anyone..LOL
I'm sure TT does know enough to help a beginner with the basics and possably this new caller can return home and call a few in after spending time with TT.. If you read a few of TT's posts you'll find that he has problems working with smart coyotes and just gives up on them and moves on. If TT can't call these coyotes in then there is'nt much that canbe learned from him..
As to the last question I have to say yes. Scott, Rich H. and Randy R both got me pointed in the right direction and the rest I had to figure out for myself by trying different things.
I'm not calling in big numbers here at home, but most callers never will its just the way it is in my area. But there are other means of getting them to keep the numbers down.. I found that calling coyotes here is more productive when doing it at nite, they don't want to move around dureing the day. Problem here with nite calling is I can only use a lite for about a month and have to use a shot-gun, another way is to call on full-moon nites over snow. Anyway I'm getting better at it and putting a few more on the stretchers...

I was going to someplace else before we even had coyotes here where I live. I've always liked it there and will always continue to go there..
If you looked around you would notice there are alot of guys that have to travel abit to get into coyotes or a area to hunt, some travel all the way to Texas and others go to AZ. and so on..

Hey Tim,
I didn't post this so guys could poke you, just so you know! I truly do congratulate you on the win!!! Well done!!!
Charlie has told me what the comp is like so I also know how difficult and challenging it was to win.
Dave Boyer is Charlie's shooting partner. Dave won the very first Mr.Coyote title and I think they won a team title that year, too. I made Charlie some calls way back in the 90's... we used to shoot competition together. He lives about 15minutes down the road from me.
Again, well done!

Thanks;
I would be lieing if I did'nt say it was great to win the contest which it was but I like to think that there is more to it than just winning a throphy. One of the main reasons I entered it was to learn from the contest itself. The way its set up is as about as close as you can get for simulateing an actual stand. Its a good way on a personnel level to find out what are youre strenths and weaknesses and from there a shooter knows what he needs to improve on to be better at it..
A shooter is also scored on his calling abilities and there are people there to help anyone that may need it. My weakness for example is useing shooting sticks, I found from previous contests that they work great for getting on a target quickly but lacked a little as far as makeing accurate shots at the longer distances.
This year I used the prone position useing bipods and was able to make more hits but I lost a little time on trying to pick up the targets but still got the job done so I'm happy there.
I may have to get a smaller set of swivel bi-pods for next year or practice more with the shooting sticks.
Running target I was able to hit but was'nt great shooting and have done better with shooting sticks, plus this year they changed it from one shot done twice to two shots on one run, really makes it interesting and I always wondered if I could get two shots off in that short of a distance. Now I know so I'll concentrate more on aiming and lead.
The going away shoot done with the shotgun on clays rolling across the ground is really challengeing, at least for me. I stopped duck hunting years ago and don't hunt pheasants that much as of late so a shotgun see's very little use by me and I really suck at it. Plans for next year is to get a little practice in with the shotgun and also go back to useing my short barrel Ithica as I seemed to do better with it in the past..
I've seen Shaw do the wet work on coyotes before and watched him in the contest for two years and he is very versatile when it comes to useing a rifle or shotgun and he can shoot no doubt about it and he is a very good caller to boot. If Shaw keeps at it he'll have a Mr. coyote plaque on his wall soon..

"Geordie, does Mike look a little healthier than when you hunted with him??"
Yes he does Randy.
And for those who don't know, I hunted with Mike two years ago at the VHA contest hunt. This took place prior to his transplants. I believe he was under going dialysis(sp) twice a week, as well as lots of other meds. Not only did this man put in a hard day hunting in less than ideal conditions, he had a cheerful demeanor and a ton of old ranching stories that kept me laughing. He's a hell of a good man, and glad to see him doing well.

Just to set the record straight, Mike Norman was the first Mr. Coyote back in 2004. Charlie Bland has the honor of the Mr. Coyote title twice, 2006, 2009. Dave Boyer won it back in 2007.
I too would like to congratulate Tim and the rest of the guys for playing along. It was a good time for sure. Hope to see some new faces next year...
Thanks.

Hey Jeff,
Thanks for setting the record straight! It's hard to find all the info from just a websearch.
Charlie and Dave are from here in Illinois and about 15miles down the road. Both are excellent shooters and just plain good people, same goes for Gene Ford from Missouri... good guy!
I do know they have all three won awards out there at the Jamboree. I'm looking forward to making the trip someday myself.
They have spoken highly of you!!!
