He is a legend in his own mind. I started to do some math on that, you know total number of stands; numbers called in; percentage killed etc. Decided it wasn't worth the effort. Please tell me he and the author are the only ones who believe that shit.

P.S. I think Randy attended PU....nope, I'm sure he did, I have seen the diploma....LOL

Why do those money grubbing guys always use the term "the real deal"? I like ole Tony, but will say 5000 is probably pure bullshit. We need more movies with AR being the director. LOL.

WOW, Grabbed my calculator.

5000 coyotes divided by 260 equals 19.2 years of killing 1 coyote each day (5 days, every week, 52 weeks).

I think Tony belongs to a very select group of self promoters. The "Real Deal" like Byron South and his dorag amigo Glenn Guess.

And, Len Backus has been around for a long time, but he sure swallowed Tony's BS hook, line and sinker.

I think we have a Texas member that can easily blow Tony and his credentials out of the water? Hello?

Good hunting. LB

I'm going to lower my head, grin, and very quietly say, "I like Tony, too, but..."

He sure knows how to open his mouth and step into it at the same time! Why wouldn't he just say something like, "Several thousand over the years." that might have been a little easier to believe since he really does hunt almost every day. Tony is about promoting Tony! He's not a bad guy, I do actually like him and listening to him has always given me a chuckle... much as TA has! [Big Grin] [Big Grin]

Sorry about this one TA. [Razz]

"He’ll probably be irritated with me for outing him about his 5,000 coyote experience.” Well, I say “Too bad, but the world of neophyte predator hunters needs to know"

Yes, the neophytes will indeed believe it.

this could not be the same Tony Tebbe that bragged on killing 47 coyotes, 11 fox and 27 coons during a night hunt in Texas a few yr back?

I recall some post on maybe predator posse or some other Texas site.

Interesting math on how one would come up with 5,000 kills. Understandably, the real deal TT resides in some prime area, but just until the past yr, wasn't he living in Illinois? Granted, there are some coyotes in Ill. but, a hardcore experienced hunter would have to be just about perfect to bag 20 a season.

I need to enroll in this school called Predator University. Do you think they can assist me in financing up a student loan? With the 'math' involved, the financier would end up paying ME interest

You know.....some times these phonys start to iritate me. Numbers are one way to gauge status and expertise. Reputation and peer respect are another.

Understand, I don't know Tony for beans, but I resent these come lately's that have a few years experience under their belt and claim vast knowledge and a high body count and even fudge on the years, like Byron, who claims over 30 years experience, which is a huge joke to anybody that has been paying attention. I can't help it, I don't like to see these instant experts touting vast knowledge and skill....and then trying to make a buck through nothing but pure dishonesty.

Call me jealous, except I never tried to make a dime off of my reputation, such as it is.

Good hunting. LB

Holy shit! Is he serious about 5k? As sage said, he was living in Illinois for a long time.

I'm new to this shit in comparison, but I will call bullshit when I see it or read it. Why are there so many self promoting, ignorant, back stabbing mother fuckers out there these days?

I don't know shit about the author as well, but he is a gullible SOB!

And RShaw, you need to make some more of those videos. I registered over there today and have a few in the works LMFAO! I spit my breakfast on my desk this morning when I saw that last one.

Quote; "Halfway through our first day together, I put this question to him: “Counting those killed by you, by your calling partner or by a client, how many coyotes have died in your presence?” He thought for a moment and then said matter of factly, “Oh, I guess around 5,000.” “Wow,” I thought, “I get to pick his brain for a couple of days in the coyote heaven of sagebrush dotted eastern New Mexico and the far western panhandle of Texas."

I wonder who is gonna be the first to claim 10,000? With the stakes raised like this the average guy trying to get his foot in the industry door won't even raise an eyebrow with claims of a thousand or two under his belt. [Wink]

But hey, everybody says he really is a good guy!

Maybe so, but I'd make a wild guess that there is fair amount of guys on many of the boards that donate money, food, and time to charities, help out those in need, kids included, yet don't make any effort to publicize it for all on the 'net to see. Some just like the spotlight more than others I guess?

possumal? Are you kidding? The topic is credibility and casually throwing around a body count of 5,000 coyotes is what is raising eyebrows. Personally, I don't care if he calls his mom every night, goes to church every Sunday, leaves the toilet seat down and helps undeprivilaged kids. What the hell does that have to do with gross dishonesty? None of that nice stuff matters when we are talking about a fib of this magnitude.

Good hunting. LB

edit: forgot about the dog. I will give him a point or two for a good looking dog, but he gets no pass for lying about his resume. I'll stick my neck out and suggest that he is lying. All in favor, a show of hands, please?

Do you know the author? he quoted Tony, I have not heard from Tony, have you?
I do not know either one of them, I have doubts about that number(5000) but it seems like some conclusion jumping is going on.
Anybody know how to ask Tony about this artical?

Len Backus is well known, owns the Long Range Hunting website. He is a member of HM. This is a matter of accepting a number thrown at him, as he would have no way of substantiating a figure like that. I guess he just trusted him, but I strongly doubt that Len would be doing a job on poor little Tony. Almost inconceivable, in my opinion. But it certainly sounds like the kind of WHOPPER that Tony is capable of?

I don't hate Tony I hate the game this has all turned into, the sport of predator hunting .
last year it was a predator hunting GUIDE telling me i am ruining the sport by paying land owners for permission to hunt, and only a couple guys chimed in my defense .

I understand now, don't pay the land owners pay the outfitters for the right to call prime land.

i got it

I'm not for or against Tony, could care less.

However this pisses me off, come on 5000 coyotes ? If memory serves me correct Tony was living in Iowa with a job and kids a few years ago ?

It would prove to be difficult at best with a full time job and family to hunt that much, even in a coyote rich environment.

Just my opinion.

Oh' wasn't it Rusty Holt from Texas, who had the opportunity, to wipe the floor with Tony a few years back at PMS ? Yet decided to pull in the reigns ?

While I admit I'm far from being a good coyote hunter, what must the newbies be thinking, when they might blank on their first 50 stands if they make it that far ?

This stuff on the intro-net is getting ridculous.

I've got a beautiful horn howler with my name and the OPHA symbol engraved on it that Tony donated. I spoke with him once or twice and he seemed like a good guy, even enjoyed his seminar on howling.

But 5000 coyotes? I call total bullshit!

Maybe he was joking, mis-spoke, not heard right, answered the wrong question or just counting the pups every pair he killed would've had in their lifetime.

Anyway, who would enroll in higher ed if he only said 4500? You charge good money, you better have a good resume, no?

PS, George look at deer leases, they started out innocently enough. Private land that was safe to hunt on because you had control to a point. Fast forward 20 years and bring on camo mfgs, deer calls, scent makers, deer breeders, deer managemnet, high fences, tv high fivers and Jackie Bushman. The big city boys have moved me right out of the game, with decent leases going for $7-8.00 an acre. I could shoot em from my truck while writng the warden a check and it'd be cheaper.

At the rate this "sport" is growing and to use your word, being "commercialized", will your Grandkids be able to afford to hunt?

Thread hi-jack for the day done.
