Been camped out on the desert for a few days. Here are the results. Gross score 90". Potentially top 5 for the state ever. The pics don't do him justice.

Good lord, that may be the first antelope I've ever seen and thought "Wow thats a big one".
Congrats. Tell us about the shot... was he in the same area code when you pulled the trigger?
Posted by Rich (Member # 112) on September 14, 2010, 07:44 AM:
Good job Cal!
It was probably that big guy's Momma that tried to stomp on me out west of Rawlins that time.

Well done Cal!
I don't kow crap about how antelope are scored, but when you say possible top 5 in WY all time it must be one heck of an antelope.
I'd like to hear a bit about the hunt and what you poked it with?
Posted by DanS (Member # 316) on September 14, 2010, 09:10 AM:
That is really nice.

Holy Cow!! That is an absolute monster. Congrats Cal. Lets hear the story!
Posted by 3 Toes (Member # 1327) on September 14, 2010, 10:45 AM:
No big story. 1 shot 483 yards. 7mm Mag. May will make top 50 all time Boone and Crockett. Hunted my ass off and covered a jillion miles and looked at a billion goats. Dry and dusty, cold at night. 1 ruined pickup tire. Oh, and I forgot he's 16 1/2 tall with 8 inch bases.

Cal,
You are waaaay too modest--483 yards would be a big story for me!
Cool pronghorn--love the little kicker point!

Nicely done Cal! All the better you had to work for him and make a nice shot to seal the deal.

Looks like the bullet exited lung area, judging by the second pic. Perfect shot. What bullet were you using?
Good hunting. LB

Sweet!!!!
Question; Do you regularly practice out to 500 yards or just sight in at xxx yards & go by the drop charts??? Not trying to be a smart-ass.....I just don't understand all that I know about long range shooting.
Posted by Leonard (Member # 2) on September 14, 2010, 01:00 PM:
Let's TAZ the smart ass!
Just kidding koko, you know you are one of our favorites, all the cute stuff you come up with.

Thats one nice goat!
Posted by 3 Toes (Member # 1327) on September 14, 2010, 03:13 PM:
Kokopelli,
I regularly practice out to 1000 yards with this rifle. I have the target turrets etched with the yardages and it corresponds closely with the bullet and load I shoot, depending on elevation and temperature. I was shooting 168 grain Bergers at 3120 FPS. A 4 or 5 hundred yard shot with this rifle is a chip shot with no wind.
LB, that is actually the entrance hole, quartering slightly away, and it exited just in front of the off shoulder. He hit the ground so hard he may have chipped a tooth!
And after checking the B and C books I'm going to say probably top 10 in WY, not top 5. There is a bigger stack of 90s there than I thought. Funny side note, while at the taxidermist they have to put an interstate game tag on animals as they come in, the little metal band that most of you have seen. It wasn't big enough! They couldn't get it around the base of the horn where it's supposed to go!

Great picture, great antelope. That problem coyote you killed at long range a few weeks ago had you primed and ready. Good shooting for sure. Thanks for sharing with us.

Very impressive goat!
Posted by Kokopelli (Member # 633) on September 14, 2010, 07:30 PM:
Awesome.
I wouldn't even know where to aim for a 1000 yard shot. The places that I haunt, 200 yards is a long shot. Always been a little more comfortable in the thick stuff.

Excellent antelope and shot!
That is one of the few types of hunt I have never done and have a strong desire to accomplish before I check out.
I've watched the little buggers and always thought it would be a great personal accomplishment putting the sneak on one.
Posted by jbmartin (Member # 651) on September 15, 2010, 06:47 PM:
Most awesome!!!!!!!!
Can't believe you didn't get him with a sharp stick!!!
Way bigger than the ones that used to invade our hometown or close to it.
From distance, were you using your scope with dots to measure, or what was the way you could tell the height, etc?
Just curious....
Later...

Cal hunting antelope is on my list of things to do and that one moved it up the list.
Of course you know that if your clients see that one they'll think you're holding out on them...
Posted by knockemdown (Member # 3588) on September 16, 2010, 07:04 AM:
WOW, that is a slammer!
Posted by 3 Toes (Member # 1327) on September 16, 2010, 04:45 PM:
Thats one of the great deals of being an outfitter Tom. No matter what, they will think that, even though this antelope was taken in a hard to draw limited quota area nearly 200 miles from where I lease and guide. I have learned to never ever personally hunt where I guide just for that reason.

Those are the best bases I have seen on an antelope. I love the mass. Nice job. It must have taken you a week to get your eyes back to normal after glassing that desert country for hours on end.

Beautiful Cal!!!
Wow, super shooting!
