Id have no luck at all.... LOL

Last Sunday, I think I posted about it, we had a hail storm. Started off terrible, but ended up pretty good. Insurance took good care of us. Both of our vehicles were totaled out. Ended up being a total of 20k damage to the house and they paid up. In the process of hiring folks to fix some of the things and Im doing some myself.

The only vehicle that survived the storm was the beast. My old 89 Suburban. I use it for huntin, haulin dogs, trappin, ect.... It stinks and the AC dont work. For the last week, I have either had to drive my wife to work, 20 miles, and go pick her up, or, Im stranded at the house and she drives it. Bless her heart, she has to dress up and its so humid, she is sweating and dirty by the time she gets there either way.

Yesterday, we went an hour north to Columbia Mo car shopping. Intent was to at least get her a car. The day started off fantastic. We like Toyota cars, one of the only ones still made in the USA. Immediately, she set eye on a Corolla Sport they had. 2010, used, with 4k miles. Beautiful little car. Loaded with everything. New it sold for 20k and we got it for 16,500.

I was lookin at trucks and found a 2008 Tundra with 22k miles, 4 door, Off Road TRD package. Nicest truck I have ever owned. Lots of room. 385 HP and 400 Torque. Nice SOB, looks brand new. I got it 15k cheaper than a new one just like it.

They had a special going trying to get business to buy vehicles. Got them both for 2.9% and they threw in 100k mile bumper to bumper warranty, GAP insurance, Disability and Credit Life and some other little stuff. Unbelievable deals. I am very happy. Just cant believe it.

Anyway, we were waiting for the paperwork to get done and the vehicles to get cleaned up. And the phone rang. Now, before we left, I sat my boys down and told them we had a terrible week with the storm and a few other things. Everyone was stressed out. We asked them to please, take it easy, hang out at the house, just no drama. Give us a day to get the vehicle situation taken care of.

The paperwork was almost done and my phone rang. It was one of my sons buddies. My oldest had decided to jump on his dirt bike and show them some tricks. Only thing, he didnt put on a helmet, let alone his chest and shoulder protectors or any other gear. He hit a cinder block in the weeds and flipped it end over end. We called 911 and a neighbor. My wife jumped in my friends car we borrowed to go up there and headed for the hospital. He broke his collar bone, deep bruise on his hip and a gash in his leg. Lucky boy. Very lucky it wasnt much worse. They got the crash on video.

Anyway, I thought things were turning around. At least hes not hurt worse. We are going in the morning to get her to sign the papers and get her car. He is in better spirits, I think its the pain pills, lol, and lookin better. Kids heal faster than we do.

I think he learned something, or at least hope so. He realizes now, it was his right shoulder, that he will miss the first part of bow season, one of his favorite things. He will be lucky if he can shoot anything for gun deer season, sure not his 300 Win. May have to loan him a lesser kicker. LOL He may miss the first part of trappin season. Not to mention had to quit work and wont have any gas money this winter.

What a week.

Oh man, poor kid!!! No kidding, what a week! Sure glad he's gonn be alright. My dad broke collar bones "twice times" on motor scooters. If any of my kids were riding out in our field, same thing could of easily happened here. All the rain had made a jungle of weeds out of everything - 3'-4' weeds everywhere. I used the weed waker for 3 1/2 hours earlier this week and only got the front yard done!

Congrats on the new rides and hope your son gets better in no time!!! [Smile]

Don't take this wrong, but I sure am glad simply making this request doesn't work too well for you either. Let's me know I'm in good company.

On a serious note, damned glad he wasn't hurt any worse than he was. Accidents like that usually vault the driver forward, breaking both legs just above the knees when they hit the handlebars, then causing a face plant right into whatever they hit. It can be very, very bad. He was lucky. Hope he knows that.

Sounds like you made some good deals on the rides. I hope everything turns around fast for you guys. You've had a rough go of it lately.

Hate to hear that Andy. I broke a collar bone in high school. Hate to say it, but it was a long time healing. Tell him to hang tough.
As far as your luck situation, it reminds me of what a good friend of mine used to say. He never got upset and worried when things were going bad. It was when everything was going good; thats when he got nervous.

Dang Andy, what a week.

My daughter did as Lance said, hit a rock on a 4 wheeler one night, propelling her face forward into the handle bars and speedometer. Cut her up pretty good but the doc sewed almost everything into her eyebrow, minimal scarring.

Lesson learned? No she still rides without a helmet, just not as fast at night. So stay on him about the helmet.

Glad he's okay and hang in there, it'll get better.

Watch your head on that Toyota, my cousin has one for his pumper truck. It's the smoothest riding rig I've ever been in even on lease roads going 50+. But I hit my head every dang time when I get in if I ain't paying attention. You'll like the truck.

Glad the accident was not overly serious, Andy.

I have seen, and been involved in, some extremely bad dirt bike accidents.

Andy;
Look at the bright side. You're (hopefully) getting all of this stuff out of the way, done & over with before hunting season AND with everything that's happened, it hasn't been bad enough that anybody has had to wear a suit. [Eek!]

Thanks fellers. [Cool]

Hes feelin better. Its a badge now. He posted it on facebook and the girls are all responding really well and several come to visit. He asked last night how long before he could drive. [Eek!] LOL Surely he wasnt thinkin that? [Big Grin]

I just hope he learned a lesson. Helmet, chest protector, which also does shoulders, and riding pants and he would have been sore and thats about it. And the boy knows better. He races Hare Scrambles and is damn good at it. For those that dont know what that is, thats about 300 bikes, normally, on a 12 mile trail through woods, up big hills, jumping creeks, basic woods riding. So, he is not a novice rider.

Hopefully he did learn.

As for the truck, I think its the best truck I have driven, unless something pops up. Like Tom said, on rough roads, it seems like your floating compared to most. Great suspension.

Thanks again for the well wishes.

Andy,
Really sorry to hear about the lousy luck. Good thing your boy faired decently in that accident. Is he going to make you any money on that video?

Sounds like you got a great deal on those Toyota's. My 98' T-100 has been a super ride, just a bit underpowered for pulling much. I've been eyeing the new Tundra's....But OUCH, they're expensive $40-50K here.

Hope your luck is on the upswing.

Oh yeah, the video. Am I the only one wanting to see the video or am I just the only one insensitive enough to request a link!?!? [Eek!] [Big Grin]

Andy,
Not to downplay what happened to your son, but if you play your cards right maybe you'll end up with two free Toyota's from the video sales.

Ouch! a collar bone hurts like the devil.
I raced and have ridden motorcycles nearly all my life have crased in spectacular fashion many times. Never broke a bone until I climbed a big hill in the dirt and upon finishing came to a stop and put my foot down on the ground ,only there was a hole there and down I went and broke my collar bone it still brings tears to my eyes.

Glad to hear your boy is okay. Now, next time you buy a vehicle, stay away from the GAP insurance. You don't need it!
