Since he's been busy with "stuff" and, because he's humble to a fault, he gave me the okay to let those of you know who don't already - there's a little Q in the world. He's about a month old and hasn't killt any coyotes, so if you guys start now, you might be able to stay ahead of him from here forward. LOL
Garrett came into the world with a bang, causing his mommy and daddy quite a bit of concern. At hours old, he got his first plane and helo ride to a hospital in Denver where Q and Megan have been staying for the past several weeks. I spoke with Q night before last and they have him home in Scottsbluff. He was born a month premature but was still 5 pounds - plus. He's over six pounds now and starting to eat well.
Maybe if we're lucky, Q will jump in here and share his own good news so I don't have to do it for him. It's his thunder.

Scotts Bluff! My exdaughter-in-law is from there. Her and my grandkids lived there for a while before the divorce.
Congratulations, Quinton!

Congrats Q!!! It is a wonderful thing being a new dad. Did you have that feeling that you could kill anyone if they ever hurt that little critter? Funny, I only had that feeling with my first, but I remember that protective instinct. I remember leaving the hospital afraid to drive. I've never been afraid to drive!?!?
Congrats again, I'm happy for you guys!
P.S. I know your gonna be a really great dad! [ May 31, 2010, 01:39 PM: Message edited by: Locohead ]

Congrats!!!! Enjoy 'em while they're little; they grow up really fast. (Although at times it won't seem like it)
Can we look forward to a 'Spawn of Q' distress sound being offered from FoxPro????

Good news Q! Congrats on having a son...
I like the name, "Garret"... always thought if I had a son that might have been his name.
Prayers for for all.

Yeah, I remember, long time ago, talking to a fellow worker and I said something about how my oldest was approaching eighteen and I might be done raising him. This guy laughed out loud and with a "tell you what", said guess what; you NEVER quit raising them! Truer words were never spoken, and my young'in is approaching 47.
My advice. Have girls. They get married and you don't have to worry about anything. (twenty years so far) but the male children, umm? they require lots of upbringing. Stupid seems to run in the family. (just kidding)
Then, here's the benefit with the female children. When you get to a certain age, the boys can't be bothered with decisions about Dad's care. My wife went through all this stuff and with three brothers, you would think she would get some input? Nope, all they ever said was; "WHATEVER YOU THINK IS BEST". Which is no help, at all, but girls take responsibility, while boys don't want to deal with it. I'm glad I have a daughter, for what's down the road, if I don't die of a heart attack. Boys are pretty much worthless when it comes to caring for an aging parent. Sorry. BUT, they sure make for a good buddy, don't they?
Good hunting. LB

I guess my older brother is the exception, then. He has been saddled, if you will, with being in charge of many of our older family members' last life decisions, including executor and such for grandmothers, dad, etc.. My maternal grandmother was rushed to ICU and her vitals were failing. Knowing that she and he had discussed this crossroads many times as had she and I, I thought the final decision he would face would be easy. He called me that night, said that the hospital had just called and said her vitals were still dropping and he commented that he didn't know what to do. He was struggling with the obligations he had volunteered for. I told him it had already been decided and that the only decision he had to make was whether he was to honor her wishes, or not. I reminded him that the burden of that decision had already been taken from his shoulders at a time when she was able to speak on her own behalf. Then, I reminded him how pissed that old woman would be if she coded and they brought her back. Luckily, she rebounded that night and we had several more years of her in our lives.
My MIL changed her power of attorney to my wife about three years ago and in informing us of that decision and gaining Lisa's consent, she asked me if there was anything we wanted to discuss with her. I asked the kids to leave the room and we sat down and had a long, long talk about everything to do with her end of life issues, right down to the funeral home she wanted, where she would be buried, cremation, even who she wanted for honorary pallbearers and the songs that would play at the service. She emphatically stated there would be no funeral and I told her she wouldn't be here to protest and that the service was for us, not her.
It's all in writing and my brother, from dealing with several funerals in our family, illustrated to all of us, at the behest of my grandmothers who had it all written down well ahead of time, how to make the process go as smoothly as possible. I agree that most guys can't do that stuff worth a damn, unless they know how important it is that they do. [ June 02, 2010, 02:43 PM: Message edited by: Cdog911 ]

ALWAYS AND NEVER. CAN'T GET AWAY WITH ANYTHING AROUND HERE? Let me smugly restate; My daughter has always been the responsible one and never caused her parents a moments grief. I thought, as a general rule, girls are more responsible, but koko's got the chuckles?
My son's problems seem to center around not being able to handle money worth a shit. Easy come, easy go. His version is; "Duh, what problems?"

My daughter turned out well. In fact, I'm quite proud of her. She's even getting me a Weems Dual Tone off of EBay for Father's Day. But there were moments in the raising process............

I keep reminding myself that the bad makes the good look even better. My boy called me this afternoon, very excited, he has a job interview tomorrow morning. Production manufacturing and entry level, but it's a much needed break and a start for him. Everyone cross your fingers and think happy thoughts.

Thanks guys it's been a while. On May 5th I was nearly 100 miles from home when I got a frantic phone call from my mother-in-law that went something like this..
Quinton! Megan had an abruption and they are taking her in for an emergency C-section, you need to get up here right now!! I said I was on my way and hung up. I was shell shocked to say the least. The first thing I thought was "Shit" I am not ready to be a dad yet, what the hell is an abruption anyway? I did find out shortly after the phone call that my truck governs out at 98 mph. LOL
I will spare you guys all the details but it has been an emotional rollercoster the last few weeks. If you haven't been there before, there really isn't any words to describe how you feel when you see your baby loaded on an airplane encased in a mass of tubes and wires.
All the thoughts and prayers by friends and family were well spent and very appreciated. A few days ago Garrett made it home and he is doing well.
Thanks again guys!
Good hunting.

Glad Garret is OK. Been on that same roller coaster myself since Feb. I know all about those tubes. 2 different Granddaughters went through the same thing Q. Helicopter rides, Childrens Hospital and all. Then my wife. Been in hospitals more since Feb than I have been out of them.
Garret.....a good strong Scottish name. My oldest son named his son Garret last July. One and only Grandson for me out of 6.
You will make a good dad. Just spend all the time you can with him, as before you know it, he will be 18 and gone from home, and you will wonder what happened to your little boy.

Q, Glad to hear everything is working out and congrats on the boy.
Your story reminds me of the birth of my second boy. I was from happily working one day, thinking we had a month to go, to getting that phone call that all wasn't well and flying to the hospital and jumping into a gown for an emergency C-section. That was over 11 years ago and everything turned out just fine.
