Just woke up this morning wondering how he was doing.

Been putting off similar for a few years now. In no small part because I'm scared of it.

Have you heard anything Leonard?

No, haven't heard? Should have, by now? Let me see if I have his cell phone #.....

I struck out?

I called and left a message. Twenty minutes later, I had a call back and the guy said that Andy didn't have this number any more, several people had called the number. I thought it was a very courteous gesture to take the time.

But, now what?

[Eek!] I haven't been around much the last couple of months...we've re-modeled our home, listed it for sale, moved, and we are still un-packing! It's been really busy for us. Enough about me...

Is Andy having another surgery? That man is a very large sack of jacked up bones - poor thing! Which surgery was it or did I not quite get the drift right?

Anyway, regardless of the ailment, Andy, I know you are a very tough and strong man. I wish you a quick recovery and I hope whatever procedure you had provides lots of pain relief!!! I'll even pray for your jacked up bones my friend! I really will. [Smile]

Dave, if you're putting off a procedure...getter done...it's the right time so you'll be recovered by bow season.

I heard Chile' got a new bionic shoulder while I'd been away too. I hope you have a quick recovery also. Maybe you're all healed up already? I'll even send up a prayer for your pagan butt too! [Wink]

Thanks Danny.....I can use all the help I can get. Im healing up well, but still have 2 times a week, for 8 more weeks, visiting Doc Pain, the physical therapist, a black guy, with the last name White.
I hope andy does well, although Im not real sure just what kind of procedure he went thru? I know something with spine/neck/back....sure don't envy him.

Day two, no word. Worse anticipation than TOP KILL.

Andy, if they're holding you for ransom, just double click REPLY with your nose.

AZ, my tortoises got into that cactus you gave me, they chomped the buds! <sob> I could've wrung their cute little necks! I piled up rocks to protect what's left, sort of a, closing the barn door after the horses escaped, response.

Good hunting. LB

Thanks for the concern guys. I was set up for this coming Wednesday. Last Wed, my wife came home and my legs wouldnt work. I was in such intense pain, she said I was almost passed out and couldnt walk.

Off to the ER. Dr set me up and had surgery Friday. Now I got good news and bad news.

He was able to free it up very well. First time in 9 yrs I have had no pain in my legs, period. Very good. He was able to do it minimally invasive. I still have quite a bit of surgery pain, but it is easing.

Bad news, he is not sure it will stablize itself. Gotta have x rays every couple weeks for a while. If it stats to move, I will have to go back in for an x lift. Another minimally invasive surgery, that he makes a small incision on your side and a small incision in your back. its a clip with a screw that works really well.

Why he didnt do it now? This is at L4-5. I have the two discs above fused and it will limit mobility even more. IF it happens to move a lot, he will have to go in and remove the rods and screws aready in there, line everything up and fuse it all as one. That will not be fun at all.

For now, Im grateful to be pain free in my legs. My back will heal soon and be pain free. Then play wait and see. Im doing a lot of nothing, just like he said. Im afraid this is a high stakes game and he knows much more about it than I do.

Im also grateful to have so many that were worried. Nice to have friends.

It sounds like the bad news will turn good with time (provided there is no movement?) And the good news is a blessing! I had no idea about this surgery Andy. I'll be praying for you and will my family. We're gonna go grill the meat here in a min. or so, and after, the whole famn damily will pray for you together. Rest up well bro'. Enjoy the Lord during your quite time resting. Sounds like He just might have all under full control! [Smile]

I forgot to mention this. It was gettin pretty bad. I had went to another doctor for a second opinion. He ordered a myelogram to go with the mri. What a barbaric procedure, btw.

That was a week before I had to be admitted. For that whole week, I wasnt feeling right. Pain was worse and I was just kinda out of it. There are are few hours last wed before I was taken to the hospital that I lost. I dont remember.

Doc says I may well have had a reaction to the dye from the procedure, thats why he dont order them, that and the undue pain they cause to see no more than they show.

If you are ever asked to get one of these, think long and hard and talk to some other doctors. They are not needed. MRIs show everything. Some of these older docs were trained before MRI and refuse to use them.

Thanks again for the well wishs. Danny, thats like having an entire congregation praying. Thank you.

Alright, vacations over, time to get back to work. You have a job to do and it ain't getting done. Save the reminisces for a slow day, Amigo! Your peeps need ya. Or, I can get TA to take over, if you want to continue milking this thing for more sympathy.

OK. Never mind. Glad to know you are feeling better. Now email me your new cell phone number so I can update my records.

That's a start. You haven't hammered TA in several days. Maybe you can jump his ass for volunteering to send bass plugs to Loco? He needs to be taught that good deeds never go unpunished.

Also, mention his 17 problem needs a solution. 'nuff said.

You have a backlog of members that need guidance; the midwest is a particularly difficult region, as we all know. Neither fish nor fowl, flyover country, as it were?

No more yaking, get busy.

No not really Andy. I prefer to fish for walleye. More of a challenge. Thats the reason I gave up some of my bass lures to loco, don't have much use for them... [Big Grin]

I love to bass fish. And crappie fish. However, I was gonna say, if I lived where you do, even though there are some dandy smallmouth, I would be chasin walleye. We have some here. Not enough to target them, at least not for me. But they are the best eatin damn fish I have ever tasted.

I used to catch a few good ones every year, normally in February, on warm windy days, jerkin rogues on windy points with channel swings while bass fishin. It was always a nice bonus.

As I recall, since I was twelve when I last set foot in Minneesota, they are probably still in a time warp. Every summer, two or three weeks at some lake up north, rent a cabin and fish day and night. We used to troll all day long and then still fish at night for walleyes with minnows, on the bottom. Yes, a few were taken trolling, just as a few lunker perch were caught, but most were northerns. Not many muskies, a very few pickeral, but I really liked catching the pike and I thought they were fine eating? We used to soak them in salt water and deep fry.

I dunno? Maybe the walleyes were way better, but I could be satisfied with (what we called) "sunfish" but others call pumpkinseed or red eye, blue gill or bream. They are a lot better than crappies, in my opinion.

Now, for Lance's "don't care" attitude and just to bug him, [Smile] our Minn. crappies averaged under a pound, but out here in some lakes we have 2½ pound lunker crappies. The blue gill get big too, close to two pounds in some lakes, most are red ear.

I have not tasted walleye in (just a minute while I take off my shoes) about 56 years? They have some around Lovelock, NV in Ryepatch Reservoir, but the coyote hunting is lousy, so don't go there.

Good hunting. LB

Posted by Andy L (Member # 642) on June 02, 2010, 06:14 AM:

I like bluegill too. Honestly not much difference between one and a crappie of the same size. BTW, we have some good size crappie too, not as big as CA, but good ones, but I wouldnt trade a biggun for a 9" crappie any day. Those thinner filets fry up like tater chips and are gooood!

Other than the occaisional walleye, out of the fish we have here local, crappie, bluegill and suckers are my favorites. I love to go giggin in the winter and fry suckers on the creek bank. Thats hard to beat.

Posted by Leonard (Member # 2) on June 02, 2010, 10:55 AM:

Suckers? Only ethnic [Wink] people eat them, I thought? Lot's of "rough" fish in rivers and lakes, in Minn. I killed a dogfish with my everpresent 9 iron, once. Evil looking thing, as is most fish in the Mississippi, gar, sheepshead, snappers, crap like that.

Back then, who knew that suckers (the leach ones) were good bait? I never thought of it? Biggest bass I ever caught was with a frog and a serious backlash; might even have been a Kansas state record? But, since growing up, I am not a bait fisherman, artificial only.

Good hunting. LB

Not leeches dammit.

Yellow suckers and Redhorse. They are boney as hell. Scale them, filet leaving the skin on the meat. Then score them, cutting thru the bones and meat down to the skin every sixteenth of an inch or so. Roll in favorite breading and toss in peanut oil at 375 degrees til they float. Fry some taters in between batches of fish to clean the grease. Take a filet and a piece of onion and fold in a piece of bread and enjoy.

Like I said, fantastic cooked on the river bank. We normally go a night or two a week from September thru January. Sometimes just kill enough to feed how ever many people are comin to eat. Sometimes keep killin to freeze some, one night last year we killed 600 with 4 boats goin in just a couple hours.

Its a good time.

Posted by Leonard (Member # 2) on June 02, 2010, 12:56 PM:

Yeah, that's what we called them, red horse were a little different from the others. I don't know how you fished them, I always hunted them with a spear?

But, actually eating them? we had a spot in the garden for fertilizing with carp and suckers and bullheads. We liked to bring dead stuff home, still do. I could catch a couple hundred bullheads in an afternoon with nightcrawlers. Never ate them, either. I have not changed much, prefer catching to eating. Bones, scared to death of bones.

We used to wade into pools up to our necks and could feel the carp bumping our legs. Spooky. Used a spear, pin them to the bottom and all hell broke loose.

We have some 40 pound carp in some lakes out here, but they are untouched except for the japanese who can catch anything and usually do.

Good hunting. LB

Posted by TA17Rem (Member # 794) on June 02, 2010, 06:26 PM:

When I fish the river for channel-cats I have to weed out the suckers and carp first before I can get into the cats. I usually take the carp and put near a coons den tree and take the suckers home and chop them up into big chunks and freeze and then use them in the fall for bait for coons and mink.

quote:
Suckers? Only ethnic people eat them,
Yep thats the same here. Some guys do take a few carp in the fall and have them smoked with apple wood. If youre hungry it tastes pretty good.. [Wink]

LB, Im not posting this for symmpathy, but thought since yall were wondering before, I would go ahead and post it.

Im not sure of anything yet, but the pinch is back in my hips and pain down both legs now. I would imagine the vertebre has moved, as this is what they said would happen and were warning me about. I dont know how, Ive been laying here since I got out of the hospital like they said.

Anyway, I go in Thursday morning to get the staples out and get pictures took. I would not be surprised if they dont admit me and fuse that joint Friday. Ill try to send LB or someone an email if this in fact happens and let you guys know.

Pretty bummed out now. I thought it was fixed, but the Dr did warn me about it, that I wasnt out of the woods and he would be surprised if it stabilized on its own.

Thanks for the concern before.

Andy since youre still takeing cheap shots I guess I'll take one to..
Why did'nt you have the fusion to beginn with while they had you on the table??? Reason I ask is the wife had simular done except to her C-6, C-7, C-8,. Her finger tips would go numb or tingle before she had it done. They removed a disk and did the fusion right after. Oh by the way she did'nt whine or cry half as much as you.. [Big Grin]

You know, you really dont deserve an answer. If you read back, you will know why.

As for whining, I wanna see you have trouble in the lower lumbar. I dont wish that on many people, but you deserve it. I have two herniated discs in my neck too, including C4-5 and C5-6. Thats just uncomfortable at times. Two totally different things.

Go google it you worthless fucking toothless bastard.

Lance if you are talking about the surgery the wife had she is doing great but she can't do the same job she used to do. Doctors think it may create more problems in the future so now she works at a desk and still helps out with the skinning once in awhile..

Posted by TA17Rem (Member # 794) on June 08, 2010, 01:34 PM:

From what the wife remembers without digging up the records the damage was between C-6 and c-8 and when they did the sureory they had to come in from the front of her neck and the fusion came from her hip bone. She stayed over-nite in the hospital and home the next day and back to work in a week but doing a different job..

It is well known, among the Inuits of the far north that a good wife is recognized , and proud of how far her front teeth are warn down by softening her husband's frozen muckluks in the morning so they would be comfortable and easy to slip on. The sign of a good wife is teeth warn down to the gumline.

Now, if (as Andy claims) your own teeth are warn down, that would mean your wife ain't doing what a wife is expected to do. What's her excuse?

Leonard, I'm back on post after taking care of some laborious legal issues that will allow us easier access to private information about our membership. [Cool] This will also give the board more flexibility in implementing a hardline approach upon those who can't follow the soon to be more confusing TOS. [Big Grin]

On another issue.. After some serious thought, I believe the board would benefit from a "Hunter of the Month" program.

For this award I would like to formally nominate TA17 as a member who deserves to be acknowledged for sharing his experience and intelligence with the board.

If TA should win this award in which he is so very deserving, Andy our esteemed member, has offered to donate a swift kick in the nuts to TA as the prize. Once Andy is back to full strength of course.

No more surgery, yet. [Cool]

He thinks its mostly just inflamation pushing on nerves causing pain in my legs and TA and nerves causing pain in my ass.

He said to start walking and some other activities. Be smart and if it starts hurting, stop and lay down for a while. Just be careful.

If it moves, I will know it. I will most likely collapse, unable to walk and will be in excruciating pain and will be on the way to the ER. Then I will have to have more surgery. Otherwise, he wants pictures every two weeks for the next few months to try and catch it if it begins to move before it gets to the point above.

Anyway, good and bad news. Good news, no surgery. Bad news, I gotta put up with this shit for a while longer.

Deal? Im going to be honest here, I could do this from now on. But I do know there are some good folks that are tired of us bickering on every thread. Just cause we call a truce doesnt mean we have to be friends or talk. Just dont kick each other when the other is down. Thats all.

Hell, you invited me to go huntin with you in SD sometime. If its still good, I might take you up on it. Maybe we can put some of this shit behind us. Or kill each other. either way, might be good.

What say Tim? Balls in your court. Ive got my olive branch.

Andy,

Why don't you just cease and desist on your own? I am sure Tim will follow suit. If not, everyone here will see you that you are taking the high road by not arguing back.

Besides, it's no fun picking on people who don't react at all. [Big Grin] (This goes for either side)

Andy,

I think what you suggested is very cool...

I also don't think what 49 said was meant to sound like anything but support for your idea. This internet thing has a way of making us not like someone we haven't even met so that's just not fair. Face to face people are always a little more real!

Hell, I'd hunt with any of the guys here just because I love to hunt and I know it will always be a learning experience, good or bad!

Hope you're feeling better soon. [Wink]

Nikon is right, Andy. I was just making a suggestion based on your idea.

I meant no harm.

I'd like to see that hunt!

Me too. LOL I can see it now. Things would be good, up to the point where tim gets them out on the killing round and they disagree about who'll sit where and look where, or Andy will make some disparaging remark about tim's weapon of choice. Pretty soon, Andy will kick tim in the nuts - literally- and, in doing so, screw his new back all up which will cause him to scream out in pain and fall to the ground. Right next to tim whose lying on the ground grasping his nuts and screaming, too. While all this is going on, coyotes will be running in from about four different directions in response to all the screaming and all these two can do is lay there and watch the coyotes watching them. They will have made one stand, called four or five coyotes, and neither will have been able to get a shot off. LOL The only way they'll finally bury the hatchet is when they realize that one or the other has to suck it up enough to go get the truck and get them both home. It'll be sorta like Korea - the war will never officially end; they'll just truce it up to avoid destroying one another.

Cdog911: I'm not that hard to get along with..LOL I've called with other guys before and I just let them sit where they want, if they don't get a shot its not my fault... [Big Grin]

Peace and harmony at Huntmasters? Oh my!

I won't hunt with just anyone but I would love to hunt with Andy as it would surely be a hoot.

And hunting with Tim would be okay too but getting a ticket to see them hunt together could possibly solve our national debt problems.

I'm thinking DVD's, kind of like Laurel and Hardy of the hunting crowd.

Somehow I don't picture two guys slapping each others back, eating granola, and singing Kum-bi-ya.

I would like to see the result after they spot a coyote at 700 or so yards, and Andy say's to Tim, "Get the 17 Predator, show me how it's done".

My goal this year is to make time to go calling, screw the deer hunting. Well I might have to kill at least one but then screw the deer!

You're welcome to come hunt with me anytime Andy, as long as it's on a Saturday. That's the only free day I've got.

One of these years, we have to relocate the HM Hunt, or have a second midwest version of it, on the Cimarron National Grassland. Q, Shaw and I hunted around a nice little campground area right north of the OK/ KS line that we thought might make a nice central meeting area and it's pretty much the only federal hunting grounds in Kansas to speak of. From that locale, a guy could hunt TX, OK, NM, CO or KS within a reasonable drive.

FWIW

I've met Tim and I really enjoyed his company. He comes from a really different predator hunting backround than do most of us here. I don't care but some really do. Until I got really serious about calling, all I knew about shooting coyotes was spot and shoot too. I've shot mucho el manyo coyotes from the road. Plus, we've caught a few fish using the beginner bass kit he sent. [Smile]

I've hunted with Andy a couple of times and have thoroughly enjoyed his company. He is a very good hunter - safe, excellent shot, large man but very quite and still, very generous with his money and equipment. He's got it all but if you share a room with him, let me warn you...that boy can SNORE!!!!

Like I said, for what its worth, to those of you who haven't met either. [Smile]

Lance, great idea! I really enjoy hunting around the South Eastern corner of CO. There are a couple of large areas of public land there. I bet we'd see Cal be able to make it too. Maybe even DAAdave also!!!

I second the motion! (Are Coloradoans allowed to second motions?)

Oh come now. If'n you can put yourself, Q and Shaw in the same place at the same time this would be a piece of cake. Might even get Geordie out here ducking tumbleweeds again.

Might even have an Illinois/Okie show up if it's close enough and the timing is right!

I'd like to meet all you fellas and see for myself why the dynamics fall the way they do...LOL!

Okieland? Shit, that ain't even a word. Tom you best head up there if you want to hunt with Andy that bad. I'm not interested in him coming down here and people reporting more Bigfoot sightings than we already have.

Loco-Cal drove to Ohio for god's sake. Surely we can get him closer than Colorado. How does the first two weeks of November sound?

Here I thought all this time Brad was my friend. But he votes against me bein a Okie, if only honorary, now he dont even want me to come to Okieland period.

I may just move down there to piss him off. Kelly said it was ok. Hell, I got some kin not too far from Kelly thats been trying to get me to come down and hunt with them. Might do it just to piss lawyer boy off. [Razz]
