Soooo.. Ive been approached about starting a part time predator guide service. Everytime I turn around someone is offering to pay me to take em calling amazingly. Not that Im good or anything, just the opposite, but I just think a lot of people get frustrated doing it on thier own or have nowhere to go.

I have done this on a limited basis in the past, but wasnt to thrilled doing it truthfully.

Im considering trying it next season for kicks, locally, daytime calling only .

I guess Im wondering, would you guys think it would be worth messing with? Would you do it? In your mind, what would you charge?

If you were a "client", what would you realisticly expect?

First, it would depend on how you react to people that are unskilled or not very swift or motivated. Personally, I do not particularly like hunting with inexperienced hunters. You have to be careful. They can do unexpected things.

Second. I would evaluate my clients very carefully and explain in detail what they can expect and what they should not expect. And, the fee would be variable based on what you discover. If customers compare notes and ask why their brother-in-law was charged less, well, you need to tell the guy that the B-i-l was an easier job.

Whatever, you aren't going to get rich doing it so you had better get some fun out of it.

Good hunting. LB

If one of your clients was injured while under your guidance you would need to be prepared for a lawsuit. Insurance would be a must.

Also, plan on your 'clients' coming back & hunting your areas. If it's private, plan on them using your name as a reference wether or not they have permission. [Eek!]

A few years ago I was approached with the same notion. A friend's wife worked in a local company with alot of rich yankee types that would pay through the nose for a trophy coyote. Since this was kind of a law firm type thing, the injury part woke me up pretty fast and I declined.

Me and my cousin did however do a few "other" hunts on a small scale and one of those was our dove hunt. It started off pretty good but this past year, most of us had limited out by 8:00 or so and were waiting for the rest of the guys to finish. While sitting in a corner of the field, one guy wound up peppering a dog that had wondered onto the field.

That was the end of me taking people I don't know or know they don't know crap about hunting or safety. They can join PM. It also seems this year my home hunting grounds have been invaded by guys with trucks, guns and callers but not much else.
