I am a new member and wish to introduce myself. I go by the handle Stiknstringbow on all the forums because I have been archery only for 22 years and Traditional for the last 6.
I have no predator hunting experience other than chance encounters while Elk, Deer, and Turkey hunting.
I am interested in learning calling techniques in order to harvest a bear, and possibly any other predator that I can.....
I cannot afford an electronic call, but like hand calls, except that I have so many that I cannot seem to figure out how to carry them all. (Elk,deer, turkey, and predator calls + grunt tube and Diaphragms.
I live near Chehalis,Washington, with my wife, 3 kids, 2 dogs, 2 cats, and 10 chickens.
I have 5 acres with my own 3D course on it to practice with my bows.
I have killed a couple 'yotes while Turkey hunting, but wish to actually do it on purpose some time, although bear, cougar, and bobcat are what I really wish to harvest.
I look forward to learning from the other members on this site, and (hopefully) sharing some success stories.

So, where the heck is Chehalis? My brother is in Tumwater. My son has a similiar homestead with critters and chickens, kinda Kool lifestyle.
Good hunting. LB

Chehalis is about 25 miles south of Tumwater.
We are 1/2 way between Portland and Seattle.
I moved down here to get out of town, it is great to be able to get off the freeway, go into stores etc.. without all the "spare Changers" and pan-handlers.
And nobody pays any attention when I walk into a store wearing camo....

Stiknstringbow ,Welcome. I used to live in Aberdene, Wa about 1974. I was thinning trees for the timber companies. We were out there with the rain and snow freezing our butts off but what a great time we had. The razor clam digging was great at Ocean Shores. Some of the mountains we climbed to thin trees were extremely steep. Gasoline was about .45 cents per gallon then and when it hit .52 cents I about scat myself LOL. Oh and by the way it's Coyote not Yote.
Posted by 4949shooter (Member # 3530) on February 11, 2010, 02:11 PM:
I was thinking the same thing as you Loco.
Posted by Leonard (Member # 2) on February 11, 2010, 02:13 PM:
OMG! Did he use the Y word?
Posted by Dusty Hunter (Member # 1031) on February 11, 2010, 02:20 PM:
Leonard, He did. One more time and Andy might be needed!
If it isn't a genuine post, I think it might be Krusty. But what the heck do I know, my pro staff status was taken away. Thank goodness, It was just too much stress for me. ![[Wink]](wink.gif)

Naw guys, Stik is a real dude, and a pretty good dude at that... he and I were discussing a couple of the forums from which I've been banned, as to their usefulness as sources of information relating to the pursuit of predators, and I suggested this one.
Krusty
P.S. I will never play "identity games", I am me, and only me.
Edit for spelling

How unfortunate. He is sure to get the wrong idea about us if he starts reading the active threads.

Leonard,
Yeah, the timing of your latest "act of boredom" (if that's what ya wanna call it), might not serve him so well.
And I vouched for you guys, too.

Dusty,
The Prison, or the area? LOL

Posted by Dusty Hunter (Member # 1031) on February 11, 2010, 09:14 PM:
I was expecting that one Krusty. LOL The area, it's a large agricultural region.
P.S. Nobody is after your friend. Everybody is just having a little light hearted fun lately. No harm intended.

I am a real person, and I promise not to use the "y" word again. As I stated before, I am new to the predator thing so I dont know the rules.
I hunt with recurves, so I wont be much competition, but hope to call in a bear this spring (if Drawn), and maybe kill another COYOTE or two while turkey hunting.
I see bears, cougars, and bobcats sometimes while out and about, and hope to be able to slow them down or make them come closer in hopes of getting a shot.
I also really appreciate the quality of some of those calls that I have seen, and hope to acquire a few nice ones for my collection.
Posted by Lone Howl (Member # 29) on February 12, 2010, 11:24 AM:
Hi Stik, I hunt with a recurve as well, I take a couple coyotes every year with it just for fun. Im in a coyote rich area though and have to call in like 20 of em just to get a good shot at one.
Oh yeah,
Welcome sir.
Mark.

I take it that means you don't belong to the club out by Little Rock??
Posted by Leonard (Member # 2) on February 12, 2010, 12:10 PM:
He might have put you on IGNORE, koko? Seems to happen to some peeps more than others?
Good hunting. LB
(I'm just ribbing ya , Hey, ANSWER THIS MAN BEFORE HE TAKES IT PERSONAL!)
Posted by Krustyklimber (Member # 72) on February 12, 2010, 12:33 PM:
Dusty,
I'm glad you realized I was just joking, about the Prison.
And I didn't think anyone was "after" Stik, I just didn't think it fair to connect he and I together, as one, or a pair.
No reason he should have to live with my reputation (online, or in the woods).
But, dude does do everything the hard way, from his recurve bow, to beating himeslf to death trying to find and kill the eastern wild turkey, with it, here in western Washington (which makes hunting coyotes here look easy)...
So he's a glutton for punishment, and should have no problem taking the fun poked his way.
Stik,
I hope to get my shop up and running again, soon, maybe we can get you a nice call.
That part of my reputation is considered by many, worth getting attached to.

It's ok Leonard, I get that a lot from my wife, daughter, girlfriend, girlfriend's girlfriend, etc, etc. I can take it.
Posted by Stiknstringbow (Member # 3571) on February 12, 2010, 02:53 PM:
I wasn't ignoring anybody intentionally...
I do not belong to Capital City Bowmen, I belong to Traditional Bowhunters of Washington, and Washington State Bowhunters.
I am pretty secure with myself, so poke all the fun you want.
Posted by Kokopelli (Member # 633) on February 12, 2010, 03:25 PM:
I was just trying to figure out if we had met; I've urinated on a few trees up that way.
Posted by Leonard (Member # 2) on February 12, 2010, 04:01 PM:
That is so GAY!
Posted by Stiknstringbow (Member # 3571) on February 12, 2010, 06:48 PM:
Unless we met at a 3D shoot, or you know Bowdoc (Don Ward) or maybe used to go in a place called The South China Doll, we probably never peed on the same tree....
I used to hunt on the east side of Washington, but got tired of running into 300+ class bulls in a spike only area.

I am not sure of that message, unless it means that you used to come in the SCD, I bartended there for 10 years, but most of the "Mex" croud was Bandido.... Do you ride?
Posted by Kokopelli (Member # 633) on February 13, 2010, 04:33 PM:
Stik; That was Loco. He's...........well, Loco, but we like him anyway.
Posted by Stiknstringbow (Member # 3571) on February 13, 2010, 04:56 PM:
oh....k,..I guess that means he is not from Elbe and probably isn't a Bandido.....
As long as you like him, I guess I will have to figure out the meaning of his posts.
Posted by Locohead (Member # 15) on February 13, 2010, 07:41 PM:
Stick,
Our host's name is LB, thus elbe, or Alby, but sometimes I call him Leon' for short!
Posted by Stiknstringbow (Member # 3571) on February 14, 2010, 09:23 AM:
I was a little confused, there is a small town near Mt. Ranier named Elbe I thought you were refering to.
It will probably take a while for me to figure out these subtle nuances.....
Posted by Leonard (Member # 2) on February 14, 2010, 12:20 PM:
No prob. as long as you understand that some of these, "subtle nuances....." go back ten years or more. No wonder some peeps don't get it?
Good hunting. LB

StikNstringBow,
Glad to have you here. A family member has had some work done by BowDoc (Old Jack Howard bows). Did you do any shooting in Southern California anytime in your life? My Father in law used to own one of the largest bow shops West of the Mississippi down there years ago.
Posted by Kokopelli (Member # 633) on February 16, 2010, 07:33 PM:
Ok, I'll bite; which shop was that????
I used to be President of Valley West Archers in Southern Cal. long ago.
Posted by TundraWookie (Member # 1044) on February 16, 2010, 08:30 PM:
KoKo,
It was called Roman Archery in La Mesa. He was in one of the Varmint hunt clubs down there as well, I think the Pasadena Chapter.
Posted by Kokopelli (Member # 633) on February 17, 2010, 06:47 AM:
Not familiar with that one; I used to leave my paychecks at Pony Express & Shawnee Archery fairly often. Shot at Valley West, Malibu, Conejo Valley, & Verdugo's ranges. Good times & good people.
Posted by TundraWookie (Member # 1044) on February 17, 2010, 07:22 AM:
This was back in the late 60's early 70's when he ran the shop. He used to do a bunch of Goat hunts with guys out on Catalina Island as well. Great stories and photos from a time before me.
Posted by Stiknstringbow (Member # 3571) on February 17, 2010, 08:52 AM:
No, I have only been to California once and that was for work, I had to spend a couple nights at truck stop in L.A. before picking up a load to deliver in Oregon on my way back home, coincidentally my last run with that company, and they still owe me..(since May)
Posted by Kokopelli (Member # 633) on February 17, 2010, 11:22 AM:
Stik;
I was thinking that we may have run into each other in Wa. at Capital City BowMen or at Olympic Archery on the way to Black Lake. (Damn fine bowfishing for carp in that lake)
Posted by Kokopelli (Member # 633) on February 17, 2010, 11:32 AM:
TundraDude;
Catalina sure bring back memories. I bowhunted 'The Islands' a bunch of times before The Nature Conservancey (may they burn in Hell) got control and stopped the hunting program. Even got a couple of Book animals and a 4 X Spike buck on different hunts.
Posted by Stiknstringbow (Member # 3571) on February 17, 2010, 08:45 PM:
Funny you should mention them but the "Nature Conservancy" owns a big chunk of land that I Bowhunt for Elk, it is allowed, for now.
As far as running into you (Kokopelli) I have been in the store at Olympic Archery once, but never shot there.
I am a 6'4" 280# bald man that spends more time listening than talking, so meeting me would not be that memorable, unless we were fishing, hunting, or shooting.
