I know you've raised some coyotes Cal. Take a look at this video and see what you think.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NqVE9qfg7yI

A pet of the guy taking the video?

Been around and fed by people a few to many times?

I really don't know what to make of it.

I'm not sure, but a pet of some sort. And the guy knew it well. He sat down for part of the video for cripes sake. If you really thought you were being attacked, thats about the last thing you'd do is get your face down where you might get it bit off. But interesting.

But it is still an option.

I will, of course, defer to Cal's opinion on this one, but my take is 'been around & fed by people'. I didn't see that as an attack but more of a 'checking out' action. If a child is involved next time, the video might not be so cute.

No good can come of this.

One thing is certain. It is NOT attacking the guy! LMAO

I think it would fetch a ball if the guy threw one. Probably sit, rollover and play dead on command too. lol

IMHO, The guy in the video needs to pack a shotgun instead of a video camera. That dog is losing its fear of humans, and it is putting small children at risk.

BTW: If our coyotes in the SW deserts had fur like that, I would reconsider skinning the animals for their pelts.

My impression is that the coyote didn't act as though he was sick.

He didn't appear to be starving.

He didn't seem to fear the sight, or scent of a human?

It didn't seem defensive, like defending territory or a den.

He appeared, in my opinion to be attacking exactly as a wild coyote would attack a large prey.

I did not see evidence of a tame animal. It did not look like he was playing a game, but I have nothing to go on as I have never seen anything like this before? And, I have been around a couple of tame coyotes, this didn't trip my buzzer.

Therefore, I can't imagine why the event happened, it doesn't seem to me to have been staged....except, the dude with the camera was not acting normal. Why walking down the road with a camera and why he was tolerant in such an unusual situation? Considering that jacking the level of aggression, in retaliation would have solved the problem, why was he allowing the animal to chew on his boot and continuing to casually film it, with a couple of "Hey's!"

That's the part that doesn't make sense, to me?

Good hunting. LB

edited for spelling. Please excuse.

Looks like the guy lives out of some work camp out in the wilderness.. He may have been feeding it all year and getting it accustom to being around humans. It dose'nt appear to be attacking him but playing a game that it may have played many times before.. It would of been cool though if a few of his buddies would of showed up to also play..LOL

That coyote acted the same as they act with my dog . First they come in and quickly retreat checking out her reaction It looks alot like a game and to my dog it is , its not a game at all to the coyote they would kill her at first chance. but thats just another opinion......

Maybe the guy is part Airedale is actually tolling this coyote. The guy probably has a Tri-Tronics on his neck too.

This guy would tear em up at the Coyote hunting contest.

In that situation, the best thing to do would have been to shoot the idiot letting the coyote bite his boots and about 1.5 seconds later dump the coyote.

Skin the coyote because the fur looked quite good and leave the idiot for bait.

I read the comments as suggested on another forum (PM thread), here is what the video shooter posted:

"Not my dog ..just joking around.. i found out that there was a camp that was in fact feeding him. few miles down the road but then stopped.. the coyote was eventually hit by a truck few weeks later on that same road due it no longer being scared of people."
