Here is a blast from the past for you Leonard. It is one of the first pics I noticed of you in the club album. I will be scanning all of the pics in the album, then post them to the website. I hope all enjoy...

Leonard, I hope you enjoy the pic. -

Okay, laugh. I deserve it.

That photo was taken in 1968 or 1969? That's Walt Parcher behind us and Bill Odom seated to the side. Mel Mitchner and I killed seven coyotes and a bobcat or maybe it was six coyotes, don't remember, exactly? I remember drilling that cat right between the eyes with Mel's 220Swift, and after that, of course, I had to have one for myself.

I know it was quite an accomplishment, my previous best was one bobcat and the hunt just before that was my first "predator" a kit fox, which barely qualified as a predator. Suddenly, on my third club hunt, I was really hooked.

Haven't really changed that much, hair is starting to get a little gray, is all?

Good one, Steve.

By the way, whoever called me and asked about the scrap book, either you or Rick Jr? I told you/or him that I gave the scrap book to Rick Sr. years ago. I assume you found it in his stuff? I still have the old S.G.V. Ch.11 record book, however.

Good hunting. LB

edit: Sean Penn? He wishes he was that good looking.

I'm glad you liked the pic. From this point out, when I find additional pics, do you want me to email them to you?

Does the records book belong to the Hunts Chairman? If you have it, I guess that means we don't. Would you mind parting with it?

Those pics are awesome. I can't wait to get them onto the site for everyone to enjoy. I'm just rough guessing that there are about 400 plus pics in the album.

By the way, it was 1968. At least that's what the album says.

Neat photo, really, I was born in 67.

I was surprised Gary Thomas was not in this pic when I first saw it.

By the way, that is one of the few pics I've ever seen Rick O show off his pearly whites.

Steve, that's because Gary and Rick had some sort of falling out and Rick started hunting with Lyle. Gary didn't stay in the club. He's still around, I think he's active in Quail Unlimited and I think he lives in Upland although I have not seen him since these photos were taken? I did notice that he wasn't at the funeral. Hell of a hunter, I can tell you that. Of course, all of those guys were, or they wouldn't be there, right? lol

edit: the previous year, Lyle was written up in Gun World by Doughtery on the AZ/CA challenge hunt held in Blythe. He and Rich McKovich took second place and had eleven coyotes in the trunk of a VW, which was an accomplishment all by itself. This photo marks the beginng of Rick hunting "down south" with Lyle. Everybody else in that photo was hunting Nevada. We almost didn't let Lyle in the Club because there was a rumor that he used a TAPE DECK!

edit: hazy memory, Lyle and Rich might have won that challenge hunt? Don't remember?

Lyle and Rick. Lyle had the areas and Rick was the shooter. Made for a good combination. Lyle was known as "Barney". Pat and I hunted together for twenty-five years before I started hunting with my son.

I saw Gary last year in the MNP. He has a place east of 4th of July Canyon with water and planned on putting up an elevated blind for him and Rick to hunt from. When Rick passed, Gary was out quail hunting in AZ. Rick's funeral was a week later on the same day he was supposed to be out with one of the guys in our club near Gary's place in the preserve. I don't know why Gary didn't make the funeral. Whatever the reason, it's none of my business.

I lost three people this year who were very special to me. Because of this, I've made up my mind to be cremated. The sight of loved ones in a coffin are seared forever in my memory. I'm glad I got a second chance to say goodbye but I would rather remember them the way I knew them while they were still with us.

Hell, with the money saved, everyone can have a good time on my dime. Hopefully they all get drunk enough to forget about what a real a-hole I was.
