Not here, we got many, but this one really stands out. I found it on another site.

quote:
Making it in the predator hunting industry
Give me a friggin' break! Wannabe's now have a seminar on how to be rich and famous, like Byron South and Glenn Guess! Or, get your own message board. (hasn't worked for me, yet)

Maybe they will 'splain some handy shortcuts, like pumping your resume with body count and decades of experience? That might work? Sage advice, like coyotes aren't afraid of the human voice?

Good hunting. LB

edit: just kidding around; no offense intended.

The first thing you have to do is graduate from a Predator University. Then buy an AR and a Fox Pro. It all becomes easy after that.

Ya know, Leonard; John there might be on to something. Instead of having a 'Camp-Out' which brings up visions of unshaven old men playing cards & telling lies, we could have a Predator University Field Trip w/Seminars. That's the kind of thing that we could get Government Grant money for!!!!

So let me get this straight LB, are you saying that someone is putting on Seminars and this is the topic?
Just how many wannabe's do they think there are. Enough to sell out Seminars, or fill the seats even if free??

Y'know Leonard, I almost posted to that thread, and I'm pretty sure I'd have been deleted if I did.

I've no desire "to make it in the predator hunting business".

Every time I ever mixed something I enjoy with business, money became the object and I soon lost the enjoyment of just getting out and doing it.

For an example, ask a woman of the oldest profession if she still enjoys it. Same thing.

I want nothing to do with turning coyote hunting into a business. I still remember the old days of just taking a rifle and a couple of mouth calls, going out and killing coyotes.

and I still like doing it that way.

Yeah, well who does, Dan? Who's Admin1, Admin2, Admin3, Admin4, etc.? TOS are sorta reasonable, I'll say that. But there are unspoken threats about being polite, which is probably the only reason why Dr Jagger(sp) is there? He certainly couldn't handle any unfriendly questions about how he runs his "research project".

Good hunting. LB

LOL Ya know Daryl I darn near posted on that thread my self. In fact I had a long response all typed up. But my style of "spirited debate" is now considered a banning offense so I decided to sit that one out. LOL

There really isn't any set standards to be qualified to "make it" in the predator hunting industry is there? If there is the bar isn't set too high. LOL

Really ones true hunting prows are not that important. If making it in the "Industry" was based off of ones hunting accomplishments there would be about a 90 percent turnover rate the first night.LOL

I have been watching and participating in online discussions for nearly 10 years now. A lot of us here have as well. It really has to do with a hunters personality. We have all seen different guys pop up randomly and from nearly there first post you can see what they are all about.

I think that there is a part of every coyote hunter that wants some level of notoriety. Some a LOT more than others. It is bothersome to see guys that just flat don't have the experience "make it." I know it sounds bad but that is just the way I feel. It just seams fundamental wrong.

Let me back up. I should say that the ones that bother me are the ones that have very little experience, no respect and are arrogant know it all pricks. LOL

Or the ones that "make it" or are attempting to make it by an elaborate game of smoke and mirrors. It blows my mind at what some people will do or say to make themselves look good or more accomplished than they are. And it is even more surprising how many people buy into it.

It only ads to the frustration when you see hordes of newbies pandering to them and hanging on every word. LOL

People associate those that are in the "industry" with the cream of the crop. A lot of these flash in the pans we see today know it. They know that there only shot at recognition and notoriety is by breaking into the industry. Some do and should be charged accordingly "breaking and entering." LOL

The biggest fad now seams to be in the video market. Honestly, when was the last time you watched a video and learned anything significant? It is all the same game any more. Some guy just travels around seeking out good hunters with good areas and is "guided" into there honey holes to call and film. It is a good formula for success. It saves you the trouble of scouting and actually hunting! LOL

Oh well, let them have it.

Good hunting.

Maybe I am a little bitter towards the industry Leonard. After the Predator Hunters Junior College went tits up Randy and I just haven't been the same. I still don't know how it happened! I mean you should have seen the frames we had made for the diplomas!!

When S and Q enterprises folded it was the last straw. Hell we couldn't even get foxpro to send us a call! And at that time they were passing out FX 5s like halloween candy to any one with a camera!

Good hunting.

Dam Q! Sorry to hear it. Don't give up though. You always have the skinning pole distributorship to fall back on. Maybe you and Shaw could go and buy a lathe?

Maybe when I was a younger fella; not lately. Notariety brings envy, and envy brings competition. Back before two major boards started (CG & PM), both based in Arizona, I didn't knoiw too many other fellas who were even interested in calling coyotes. Now they're out there tripping over each other, and I HATE competing with others for space to hunt.

I just want 'em to leave me alone so I can spend some time out in the mesquites.

I've met some good people through the boards over the years, and hunted with some of them. Most were better folks than they came across as on the boards (and most didn't come across as bad folks).

I met rockinbbar in '04 before he joined PM (heck, he's partly to blame for me being married now). I've hunted with Andy a few times, J-H, Moon Dog, Catskin, Mike Harter; heck, I even talked Vic into working over a little .38 special I still carry.

And I've seen things come between good friends, as well. It's not always the competition for fame that causes it, but I suspect it has something to do with it at times.

Naw, I'd rather be out in the brush calling coyotes with good friends than trying to get paid and/or become famous for it.

What does it take to make it?

Same as with any other "sport" based on sales by the backers, a standout personality. You have to be memorable to everyone and good at pimping the product. Being good at your profession doesn't matter, coyotes aren't hard to call and digital tape is cheap.

All you need is a little start up money and a big smile. In some cases you don't even need that. I remember a deer hunter who killed a record buck with his bow and he was approached by several companies to say he used X equipment.

It's a crooked world with fools abundant.

But let's be careful to remember those few who really brought something to the industry without sponsors, long before a video was all it took.

Well CrossJ Shaw and I have been talking about that. We are thinking about changing the paint job and having it manufactured overseas. So there won't be any hard feelings, the good news is we HAVE just decided to allow you to be on our field staff.

When are you taking us hunting anyway?

Good hunting.

Quinton. Why don't you ride along with Shaw and Geordie to the campout? That much face time with a couple of top hands should enhance your reputation, if if not your looks?

Hey, speaking of that, who else has noticed how much he's starting to look like Lance, with hair?

Tell ya what; whatever bullshit Byron has, he should bottle it and sell it to those wannbe's. Talk about somebody who has created an image based on nothing but charm and testimonials from his own silver tongue.

But damn! The "University" folded? Why wasn't I told!

Good hunting. LB

WOW! It's been right in front of me for days! Let your spacecraft loose it's tether with your Jack Russell on board, ready to deliver pups! Call The FAA, call TMZ!

This is gold, U better do it before Byron and Glenn, (or some other media whore) think of it.

The first forum I found on the net concerning coyote calling was over at CG where you have to have a 17 rem. There was this guy that got on that forum, and he wanted to be just like JH. He bought a 17 rem and even hired those two to guide him. A year or two later he finally called one in on his own. I believe the article he wrote for them was something like "This is going to be easy".

He and I called in several coyotes one day a few years back, and then I had to boot him out of the truck on the way back for shooting a bobcat in the butt on the 2nd to last stand.

Or, that's the rumor about him ending up in the bar ditch. The rest is a fact. We found the bobcat and one coyote the next morning with dogs.

I'd rather call in one coyote with the Moon Dog than 20 with most others. He's a good guy, so get to know him a bit before you put him down.

He wouldn't be the first one beguiled on an internet forum.

Yeah, we won't bad mouth any of Vic's neighbors. From what I know of him, he's okay. But, I'm not sure the topic starter was putting him down, I think it was more of a message?

Good hunting. LB

PS besides that, I wouldn't want to mess with him, I hear he's man mountain, his self?

Well, I ain't measured 'em, but I'm pretty sure he isn't as big as Andy. Not many are, though.

He'd make a couple of me though, which ain't so surprising, either.

Here he is with some sort of varmint critter we found up in northern New Mexico. He's the one what ain't got a rifle leaning on him.
