FYI
A few surprises, as to where traffic is coming from. 3.4 million hits, 22GB of information, small potatos compared to the 800lb gorilla, but still...below, a few of interest.

If my understanding is correct, the referring site is where the user was previously before coming here. Those stats would seem correct considering we are all friends visiting from house to house.

Of course, Randy. Good friends! But, try as I may, I cannot find an active link to HM on PM, for instance? So, the link may be in a forum I can't access, or in private messages.
Good hunting. LB
edit: PS I think it would be super cool if you ran that joint!
edit: I mean, you almost do anyway, (I hear), but, I mean actually taking Redfrog's place when he "retires".

I have access to all the rooms and there are no active links. It does not have to be an active link. If the browser being used is currently viewing a website, then the user goes to his next website, it will show the previously website to the stats of the new site. I just checked our stats and these are the conclusions I have come to based on the information I acquired. There are instances in the stat page where the visitor does come from a link. Those are listed as such and you can click on it and go directly to the page that your link would appear. For the most part it just goes to the main page of the previous site the user was viewing.
Of course in my feeble mind I may have drawn the wrong conclusions from my study

You must have been editing while I was typing.
I am not sure I am willing to lose the two friends I have by acquiring that position. LOL

Maybe so, but go for it! I have no doubt you would do an exceptional job.
And, you have a lot more than just a couple friends. LB

Now thats a fact, you're probably the most liked of all the staff at pms.
I even like you most of the time.

Leonard,
I come back through here, from Trapperman, fairly often, but I don't do it via a link provided by that site... I use my bookmarks.
DAA's got a site, huh? I didn't know that.

I might even re-register over there if RedFrog was gone. Most of the others that I had troubles with over there are no longer moderators, he's kind of the last holdout and I will guarantee you I won't go back as long as he's there.

Nah, I bet you have your party hat and your noisemaker and will stay up, sitting in your recliner and watch the ball drop in Times Square. Whereas, I have to go out with a hot momma that can't keep her hands off me.

finally got my message!
Subject: Predator Monster
Predator Monster is moving! The site will be down for a few days as it
moves to new location and a unique IP, an image gallery, and other scintilating
new features. We'll be back with a vengeance after the first of the year.
Happy New Year to All!

If I see any link with titties in it I am going to hit the enter button.
Big titties, little titties, fat titties, skinny titties or one odd sized titty, count me in.
One little, two little, three little titties, four little, five little, six little...
That's a whole lotta titty consumption for one night... better save some for later.

Good evening gentlemen
I had to hop in an attempt to make a clarification.
A referring website in your stats does not mean that a user merrily came to huntmastersbbs after previously leaving the referral site, simply browsing.
It means a link was used.
The stats programs do not use browser sniffing and collect information about where a viewer previously was. There are programs and sites that DO offer that, but control panel stats do not.
I believe the Alexa site has databases that provide this information for a period of time. And on the site it's labeled "user that visit this site also visit the following", or something along those lines. It's done in pattern grouping not detailed specifics.
The referrals found in the stats program are kept track of by the link used to enter huntmastersbbs, and where that link was clicked from. The more it happens the higher the referral goes up the referral list.
If the stats was really logging browser history, do you seriously think Google would be on the top of the referral list?
Ok, I'm done
Posted by Leonard (Member # 2) on January 01, 2009, 09:43 PM:
Nice to see you drop by, Jim. I was just letting them speculate. The interesting thing is, as you know, that some of those links are not anywhere on the open board, so the links must be in the back room, or in a few cases, by clicking on my profile as registered on that particular board, and then following a link to my home page.
Good hunting. LB

Interesting info. I feel another good nites sleep coming on.
I cant seem to find a hotlink to PMS on this site that is in our stats.
http://www.rollyo.com/search.html
or this one
http://74.125.95.132/webhp
or this one
http://www.proxylord.com/proxy.php
or this one
http://www.finsandfur.net/forums/index.php
or this one
http://www.charter.net/google/index.php
or this one
http://my.att.net/s/s.dll
Help me out here, what should I be looking for. This is a cut and copy directly from my stat sheets. There are many more, but I think this should suffice to explain how I came up with my understanding of how the stats work. I am learning as I go when it comes to this kind of stuff.

Yeah, it's pretty evident that they were either in private message or in a protected room.
Ragn, your not going to find any links on those referrers for a couple reasons.
First of all http://www.rollyo.com/search.html clearly indicates that this is a search engine. With that link in the referrals list, it means nothing more then someone searched PM via that engine...and actually clicked a link the rollyo provided in the results.
http://www.proxylord.com/proxy.php is a proxy script. Everything is obtained and brought to the proxy server, the viewer in all reality is NOT really at the site.
All this means is that someone accessed PM via a proxy server. Most likely to conceal their identity.
http://www.finsandfur.net/forums/index.php in the referral list can mean two things. First of all it's an index.php file which means it's the main file of said directory. The only thing you can be sure about here is that a link was indeed used to access PM via FnF.
The fact that it returned with an "index.php" means either the forum is not publically accessible or it was a private message...or the remaining syntax was stripped. This is actually very common.
http://www.charter.net/google/index.php is another index.php file, same as instances as above.
Most of the time you will never actually find the page or the thread that holds the link if it was within a forum, because of the syntax being stripped.
If it's on an actual web page somewhere not embedded within forum software it's real easy.
Here's another toy for you. Alta Vista and Google both have the ability to seek out external links by entering "link:yourdomainname.com" in the search field without the quotations.
There is one hitch though. 9 times out of 10 when another forum links to another forum it's due to an already occurring discussion right? Hey did you guys see what she said about him , bla bla.
So unless your searching for a link to an exact post and use it in conjunction with Alta Vista and Google's "link" operator, your most likely not going to find much.
Here's an example; go to Google and type in link:huntmastersbbs.com
That is suppose bring up all the sites and pages that have published or posted a link to huntmastersbbs.com
But you will get null results in this case because the redirect from that url is most likely killing the link check process.
Now do it again with PM's url you wont find any links pointing inside an actual forum thread.

You can't hide anyway Dan.
Most of us can see you coming a mile away.
On another note, it's virtually impossible to block a proxy server because the IP address's used, usually change randomly.
Websense and Blue Coat are two sources for proxy blocking software, but with random changing IP address's used by the proxy, it will result in blocking millions of legitimate users in the process.

Thanks for the info Jim.
Dan, I don't care if someone comes in the house using a Proxy, I don't care if they come in through the bathroom window.
I do care if they crap in the floor and wipe their butts on the curtains.

Interesting analogy, Randy.
I'm certain that's a big problem at pms. It must take a lot of work ferreting out all those bad guys.

Interesting OBSERVATION, Dan....from one ferreted out "bad guy" to another.

I realize you are not interested in the truth and it probably will not matter what I am about to say, but here goes.

I have better things to do than to ferret out the bad guys, allthough when I smell the crap, I do pull the curtains back to see where the odor is coming from.

Randy, I don't think you're qualified to to even guess what I'm interested in. It certainly wouldn't be how you spend your day. Good luck with your smelling.
I'm sorry I even responded to this thread.

Now there is a good idea! Curtains probably don't scratch as mush as that danged cat !
Posted by RagnCajn (Member # 879) on January 05, 2009, 04:41 PM:
Sorry for the delay in responding to an update, See, my grandbaby was in town and I actually had better things to do.
After a clarification from Leonard, I have done some more checking. I thought this was for the month, and there is only one hit in the search for "huntmasters" in the total forum for December. It is not hot.
http://www.predatormastersforums.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Board=1&Number=53005787&Searchpage=1&Main=53005787&Words=huntmasters&topic=&Search=true#Post53005787
If I expand my search to include the last year, it gets more interesting.
I am sure this one thread, with a hot link, generated quite a bit of traffic. it was viewed 1254 times.

or maybe this one with 4635 views
