I'm not sure if he wanted me to say anything, but I know there are plenty of us friends on here that would want to know...
He had some test done a couple of weeks ago... stress test and such. They have been working hard trying to figure out why his blood pressure has been spiking out of the ball park. Dangerous spikes have been hitting him hard and often.
He got a call from the Doc finally and they told him that he at some point during these spikes, suffered a heart attack. Just a mild one, but nonetheless, a heart attack. The Doc has him medicated pretty heavily now to keep him down and hopefully sleeping most of the time now.
He goes in on Monday the 23rd for a heart Cath to hopefully see things a little better and go from there. They don't know if they can fix then or if he will have to have open heart surgery or what.
So, I just wanted you to know.
I'm keeping you in my prayers Ronnie! Listen to those Docs and just get this Dang Blood Pressure Issue under control! Get Well so that you can get hunting soon!

Thanks for the heads up, Sheri. Like Ronnie doesn't have enough on his plate already. Keep us posted if you can.

If the prognosis is surgery, let's pray for angioplasty rather than bypass.

Has anyone heard anything from Ronnie lately?
I've been thinking of him since this thread started, but haven't heard much since.

Ronnie called me on Tuesday. I told him I would wait to hear from him. He was chipper as Leonard said. A whole lot of weight was lifted. The heart attack did 20% damage to his lower heart, if I have that info correct. No stints or zipper is required at this time. They are changing a bunch of medicine around and his diet too. A strange thing they found was his heart grew a new vein which came from one part of his heart, went out and then wrapped around and went back into his heart, kind of like his own bypass or something. Only Ronnie! He will have to get on here and explain it a little better than I can. But I think the not knowing was eating at him more than anything as it got closer to the test.
BTW... Happy Birthday Ronnie on the 27th of this month! ![[Wink]](wink.gif) [ June 25, 2008, 02:30 PM: Message edited by: Crow Woman ]

Sheri,
Myocardial tissue is a true marvel of nature. Unlike striated (skeletal) and non-striated muscle tissue (i.e., gut), heart tissue has several special abilities. One, the most important, is called "automaticity". If the normal, natural pacemaker that triggers each contraction, found in the center wall (septum) of the right atrium (upper chamber) fails to produce an electrical impulse that then triggers a spasm or contraction (pulse), a cell in the upper part of the heart may produce one. If those don't, then another type of nerve cell located where the upper and lower chambers meets will, called a junctional beat. And, if the junction fails to step up, the lower chambers - the ventricles - will offer a last ditch effort to keep you alive. Where those beats are originating is clearly evident on an EKG. I throw a lot of premature beats and three years ago, they had me wear a thirty-day event monitor to capture those beats. My doctor gave orders to the hospital to let me read my own EKG's each day after the cardiologist was done with them since I've been trained to do that and what I saw in the strips was very comforting to me because there can be a ton of either good, or bad, news in that little squiggly line.
As far as the body growing new blood vessels to injured areas, they're finding that more and more in critical areas like the heart, as well as the brain. The body recognizes a need to repair certain areas and marshalls the troops to get 'er done. I just read a piece the other day where they've found a way to treat amputated digits with special solutions derived from pig cells that trigger cell growth factors causing the tissue to grow and differentiate into new fingers, including fingernails, too, on rodents. They're already preparing to run trials on war wounded.
These are incredible times.
I sent Ronnie a card. Hehehe. Hope he likes it. ![[Wink]](wink.gif)

Sorry guys. I have lost power five times today(Come on down Tim).
It was all those big words Lance used. I call it a miracle, and the power of prayer. It has been a catch 22 the stronger the blood pressure medicine they gave me was causing tremendous pain in the muscles disease.
I did have a heart attack. I finally got to talk to the heart Dr before the test. When he put his hands on my legs and felt the spasms. He said he was not about to cut into that femoral artery with my legs squirming like a worm on a brim hook.
After some quick sedation we headed through those double doors. Tom's words were very much on my mind. When it came up on the screen the Dr, said my God I have only seen this once before.
The damage was very plane in the bottom left. A 1/2 " from the damage on the right side a vain came out went up and behind the heart. It took off across the chest turned around, and came down dead center of the damaged aria.
If any of you think these prayers, calls, and neat cards don't count. You needed to be in front of that screen. I now have 80% flow through there. Little things like a small reply to the post mint a lot to me. Just like when we all rode out the hurricane together.
There is still a long ways to go to get meds regulated.
Big thanks to the entire family. Now we need to put it all behind Sheri. By the way Sheri theres a envelope headed you're way.
It seems I am always telling all off you thanks for one more miracle. Believe me it comes from the bottom of my heart.
Ronnie

Ronnie,
Glad to be of help and offer as much support as you need. Some of us are blessed right now that we don't face the challenges that others do. On one hand, I say my prayer of thanks. On the other, I say a prayer for you. I didn't say it wasn't a miracle. I just said it was a known phenomenon. There are a lot of things about our bodies that can be nothing but miraculous at times.
While a few of you guys are on the line with Big Ernie, please put in a good word for my brother's wife. She's just past 40 with three young'uns. Three days before the tornado hit the county, she was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. The day the tornado hit, my brother had been in doctor's offices all over having tests run getting ready for chemo. As Director of Emergency Services, his plate has been very full, and then to have Michelle's cancer in on top of that. Concerns me just how broad his shoulders are. The good news is that after just one round of chemo, the swollen nodes have shrunk appreciably. More prayers will be sure to produce even more results.

Sorry Ronnie,
But I can't afford to leave right now. These summer storms are just starting to cross the border. Last night was the first time that I didn't get called out in a week, and today is the first time this week that I will have to go to work on time, because I didn't work all night.
I got sick and had to miss the last two monsoons. This year, I'm taking every callout that I can get.
