I've been working at this predator calling for about 2 years now, without much success. I'm an absolute novice! However, as this season closes out, I believe I have turned a corner. About 3 months ago, I put away the eCaller and picked up a few hand calls (Zepp's, Sceery, Critr call) and with some coaching (see hat tip in earlier post) was able to manage some reasonable squawks and screeches. Of the past 15 stands, I've called in 11 coyotes. Those I shot at, I missed (only bagged two thus far) due to some serious knee knocking (cant' seem to get use to being sneaked up on or run over). I'll likely keep the eCaller for cats or bears (don't know how to call these....yet), but for coyotes and fox, I get a huge satisifaction from hand calling.

The world of hand calling is a fantastical.
Some amazing sounds can be had from those little devices.

Wow, Kurt. You're doing way better than most around here. You've also selected some of the very best handcalls.

I was humbled this past weekend....8 stands, with one showing up. Came in 'back door' and winded me (I was hunting by myself). It also snowed on us.... we were near Oracle Jct, AZ.
Thanks to the folks who've helped me along the way. Once you get some degree of confidence, bad days don't rattle you so much.

I wouldn't blame your ecaller for your lack of success prior to choosing to use mouth calls. it sounds like you dumped it during some of the best months to be calling. others might say other wise, but to me the call you chose is ""almost"" at the bottom of the list when it comes to success.

It sounds like your doing ok to me.From one rank novice to another stay with it.I use a e-caller also never mind which one,i say that because there just tools of the trade. I can call the dogs in ok i just cant always close the deal. And i don't have a partner. When you can call the dogs into you around Vegas your calling is ok to good. Calling here is like trying to get a fence post to respond. Seams to me i have read/heard that the Zepp calls are good.I use some hand calls also one closed reed i made and two bite'ers. Calling here on the home front is like calling to ghost there just not there.
