Awhile back we talked about one of my boys that is right handed but left-eyed dominate.

Is this how you use to shoot Dave? [Big Grin] Seems like you said you just shot like this until you started shooting scoped rifles, then you were forced to use your right eye. But it just occured to me, how do you shoot your shotgun?

You can't just point and shoot, if you're shooting right-handed and looking at the bird with your left eye. [Confused]

Red X. Never heard of wink flash, or whatever. Try Photobucket.

Loco,
You should encourage your boy to shoot left handed...that way you'll have a hunting partner to cover your right side when coyote hunting. [Wink]

He just needs instruction. Although it seems natural to a lot of people, shooting can be a little like learning to ride a bike. Hardly anybody gets it right without dad running alongside for a couple hours.

Wish I had a picture of myself at that age in digital form to show, but yeah, that is pretty close to how I used iron sights as a kid. I did keep both eyes open, and get my cheek down on the stock, but my head was all the way over, just like that, to get my left eye lined up.

Shot like that for years. Up until I got a scope. Dad just left me alone on it, since I shot so well like that (I could outshoot ALL of his hunting buddies...).

Never have been much good with a shotgun...

Bryan, LOL. I wish that was my land, a single acre in that area is $150,000-$200.000.
I can see how you thought that. Actually, that is Pike National Forest and the frozen South Platte in the background.

those children are very blessed to have a mother to get their looks from [Big Grin]

looks like a good family adventure day...

my wife is right handed, left eyed dominant.... she learned to shoot her bow, left handed... but we found if she wore a patch, it helped with the rifle shooting... as she didn't like the hot 22 shells popping out into her chest when she shot a right handed rifle, lefthanded...

I am right handed, but left eye dominant. I don't know why but I shoot any type of long gun left handed. I shoot pistols and bows right handed. I even shoot pool left handed. Kinda wierd I guess, but it just feels natural to me. I've tried to make myself switch. If I try and shoot a rifle right handed I have to concentrate way to hard and my shot takes forever. It would probably work real well on long distance shots but quick shots would be lost.

Just move the gun over to his left shoulder and show him where to put his hands, or help him learn to open his right eye. Either way I bet you can teach him well enough to be considered a good shot.
