Awesome Leonard, thank you! I'd like to see if Charlie and the cat are still "friends" by Charlie's second birthday. Brought back many memories.

Make sure you read some of the comments. Some of the ones under this blog are true gems.

Hiding Out Today
Today, the annual coyote-killing contest is taking place and Charlie and I are in hiding. 126 people have entered this contest, and whoever kills the most coyotes in one day (today) wins nearly $1800. Not willing to risk Charlie being spotted. Photos will resume tomorrow.

She sounds like a very nice lady. She has a good heart and little understanding.
I'm going to read the blogs with interest for as long as they continue. Absolutely wonderful photos.
I believe that they will probably end abruptly within two years.
edit: Her neighbor works for control for a federal agency? Bet Cal knows who he is and the town where she lives.
The contest she refered to in October was pobably in Rawlins.

Having raised a coyote, I'm pretty sure that the story will end with the coyote "returning to it's wild ways". probably to starve to death. At least after it runs out of cats. My coyote was raised with cats and once it got big enough it has eaten several. It "loves" them also. I do have a pretty good idea where she is at, north of Rawlins by the pictures. Its hard to say what contest, Jeffery City has a pretty good one, and Dan Thompson puts one on around there, besides the Nationals. Several to pick from, but they are all in November as far as I know. But I don't think she sounds nearly as misguided as most of her bloggers. Hell, she's feeding it elk meat and that had to come from somewhere. A true neo nazi enviro whacko would be feeding the damn thing carrots.

These couple of lines are great and will encapsulate and footnote the entire saga.

Very interesting site.

Rich, perhaps you can keep us up-dated if you intend on reading every day. I'd love to know when the critter first leaves the property for morn than a day at once. Speculate why. Then tell us any other big news, like Charlie going after the chickens and such!

I don't think I'll be reading the blog daily but I would be interested in knowing all the cool stuff in the saga!

Cal,
You hinted at what happened with your coyote pup. What is the story? He went back to the wild? Did he leave on his own? Did you release him?

I love my critters and chick!!!! :)

Here is an LA Times opinion piece. She seems to be making a good living off of Charlie. 30k hits per day. A subscription fee of 5 bucks a month to get daily emails and photos of Charlie.

I think this reply does a fair job of summing up the sort of people whom we are up against.

What a horribly barbaric practice! It must be so scary having to hide from those monstrous people.Be careful and stay safe

I know a coyote Charlie for Turner MT. Doubt he has the same opinion as some of these dudes. LOL Man you guys are a riot. I never laughed so hard. The cat is toast!! If Rich is going to keep tabs on her we should all have a pool. Everybody pitches in 10 bucks and places a bet when the cat becomes turd. LOL

It will be a true Kodak moment when she comes out one morning to see Charlie picking the last morsels of meat off of the cats hind leg. LOL

Warm kitty kisses all around!!

Good hunting.

Loco, I still have my coyote, I was just making the point that at some time, that coyote, like mine did, will test the waters to see who the "pack leader" is. If your not pretty serious about showing your teeth, the coyote will then become the boss. Mine didn't although she did try pretty hard. It amazes me that they develop a pecking order almost immediately. My coyote absolutely hates 3 of my coyote dogs that I use for decoying, and will build to them and try to fight in an instant. I have a new dog that is a pit/cur/plott cross that I use for wounded coyotes under the plane and he is a mean S.O.B. and the coyote just loves him. From the first time she seen that dog apparently she knew she was way overmatched and just lays down and pees and that dog doesn't even pay any attention to her. They are about halfway buddies. And her and the kids Corgi are still buddies. They are strange and facinating animals. But the coyote does eat alot so anyone that wants to donate a cat is welcome!!!!! She loves kitty kisses.

I've got a big red one, a red and white one, and a new black and white one that I beaned with a snowball in the driveway yesterday right after we got home from hunting. And that was only because I thought the neighbors might get bent out of shape if I used my .22-250. After all, it is their cat. Let me get them live trappoed and stuffed into one of those flat rate "shoeboxes" we sell at the Post Office and I'll have them on the way. [Wink]

This is from another coyote kissers site...................... .We see ourselves in the coyote and become frigthened then the response is fear and misunderstanding. Through discussion we can talk about our fears which might lead to a better understanding of ourselves and the coyote. ............

Alright, who wants to be first to share their fears & get the discussion started........c`mon guys, it`s for your own good.

Here`s another jewel of information......................... Specificially, to the Navajo people, the coyote is known as God's dog. One Aztec god was known as Coyotlinauatl who was honored in ceremonies in which the people dressed in coyote skins and held fiestas. After which, they would eat their own shit. As odd as this seemed, it proved loyalty and truthfullness to Coyotliauatl. ........................

I guess if I were to share one of my fears with you guys concerning the coyote.....I really don`t want to eat my own shit, there, I said it!!....I feel better.

Frankly, I don't see any misunderstanding of the coyote as being a contributing factor to fear, if any, that I might have for this beast. In fact, it has been my personal experience that the more I understand them, the more effective I become at calling them and, subsequently, killing them. Knowledge is power. Ignorance is expensive. And some of those remarks are obviously intellectually bankrupt.

JD,

I think I speak for everyone here when I say that I'm glad you don't want to eat your own shit. The first step toward non-compliance is the ability and willingness to admit that you do not have a problem.

JD. I faced my greatest fear about three weeks ago. I went to my shop and discovered I was out of 75 gr VS.-Max's.

Rich talked me through it till Midway came through. Never wont to face that one again.

I`m with Ronnie on this one, running out of bullets is the worst fear any hunter faces.

LB, Some of those sites are just too much, good lord! some of the posts are so absurd I don`t know whether to laugh or cry.

Kitty kisses & eating your own poop are just a few, I have a hard time believing that there are actual people(dumbshits) sitting somewhere typing that stuff.

Merry Christmas, I`ll be gone calling for a couple days so hopefully I won`t need that intervention when I get back.............I am concerned about Q though.
