Well after hangin with Geordie and Shaw for the last year or so and putting in alot of hunting time with them, I decided to start trapping. Hunting with these fellas is pretty good. Not only do you get pleasure of watching these guys shoot you also get to here them talk trapping alot.
They will be walking along and see somthing and point at it and look at each other with a nodd and keep going. Well it took me while to pick up on what was going on, but i did. Ill never forget the day Shaw pointed at a cow head and looked at Geordie and said," I would set that". Well me being sheltered and not knowing jack about trapping i had to ask. Thats when my first curiousity sparked. I always asked these guys about trapping and then i would set back and just listen to them visit about it and soak up what i could.
Well it didnt take me long to realize trapping was work and I dont like work so i fought the urge to battle the trapping fever.
Since all that my baby setter's husband started catching coons in his barn and giving me the hides. Damn" it"" here comes the fever back so i started reading and bugging my buddies again for info and I think i really did bug them. After about a week of that i went to the local fur guy and bought 18 1.5 dukes and some #3 for coyotes and cats and tore into them. I set a few of the coon traps out and it took me a couple nights for my first coon. When i got him in my hands it felt like I actually acomplished something. I spent almost a couple hundred bucks and got me a five dollar coon. Man what a way to make money so I really got fired up and set all 18 coon traps. Since then ive cought about 5 coons and that was 3 or 4 days ago. Weve had some bad weather so a few nights i blanked.

last night we had bad weather and not expecting nothing i got to a lil hole set up on a trail leading down to the creek that i set for coons because the bank wasnt suitable for pocket sets and found a big prize. I had set this hole set with a shiney white flat rock for the backing and I guess with the lure i used and the shiney rock I drew a cat down to take a look. I got my first cat. Boy i thought" It just dont get no better". It was my first trapped cat maybe somewhat by accident but i got him anyways. Well between my Babysetter's husband's livetrap and my line i am up to 8 coons and a cat. Moral of the story!!! " It just dont get no better" Thanks to my friends for the help with this trappin" stuff.

COOL!!!

You will find that nothing else that you do in the outdoors will teach you to observe your surroundings quite like a couple of seasons of trapping. You will begin to 'see' stuff that you've been looking at for years.

WTG Steve, most of the best hunters I know, are or were trappers.
Hope you get a few more cats.

Steve,
Good job. Those "firsts" are truly memories that stay with you.

There are a lot of guys around here that think they know their way around the woods and fields. Consider themselves top shelf outdoorsmen.

Then, there are trappers!

Welcome to the fraternity!

WTG Steve!!! [Big Grin] [Big Grin]

That's a location that you will want to keep coming back to each year.

These guys are dead on the money. Learn your skills as a trapper, and finding sign for any other game will become second nature.

Thanks guys for the good words.

Norm, I already know what you mean. I took the wife to check traps in the rain with me and ofcourse with all the whining I stepped in a hole and got water in my waders. Well i blamed it on her whining anyway!!!!
