Yeah right. My (thankfully) ex daughter-in-law used to refer to me as Elmer Fudd.

It should come as no surprise that I would rather kill a coyote than pot a 120 class whitetail.....although, I have never hunted Virginia Whitetail?
Good hunting. LB

In order for that deer to go 120 inches, the animal itself would have to gross out at about 750 pounds live weight. Best guess? Lucky to go 100. probably 80-90-ish if your tape stretches a bit. Dad needs to check his spectacles prescription. An obvious case of brain fatigue.

Cdog911, You may be right but I think he won the twenty bucks by shooting a bigger buck that Leonard did. LOL ![[Big Grin]](biggrin.gif)

Lance, watch the very end of the clip again... after the deer shakes it's head. Looks like he's a 5x4 with 6-7" G2's.
While the old man was just goofing around and instigating with the 120 comment... he's not as far off as I'd first thought. I figure they're in Saskatchuan, so that deer probably weighs 40% more than he would here. It's decieving- but I'd bet he's a heckuva lot closer to 115" than 80".
PS: Hal Shockey looks just like Leonard. If LB ever takes on a Canadian accent- he'll have a twin in show business.

The final part, Part 5, explains a lot, especially at the end.

I hope that when I get to be their age, I'll have a hunting buddy with whom I can have good times like those. Hell, I hope to get to be their age.
Jason,
The subsp. in KS is known for its body size and the deer I get in my shop anymore often take forms that for years have been exclusively for Canadian whitetails, as far as their size. I have no doubts that we have a 400# deer in Kansas (on the hoof) because I've killed them with live weights over 340# and seen bigger since. Based upon ours around here (since those are the only ones I've scored before), I'd still say that one barely breaks 100. I know that no one around here would shoot it, and the one he did shoot would be passed up by 95% of the hunters around here. I might be wrong though. Having said that, though, I hear the best hunting for non-residents is in Iowa, Illinois and Indiana.

Those pygmie whitetails they grow in the south always make me laugh. Nice rack! A B cup is huuuuuge when it's on a 92 lb frame.

Rich,
The last buck I took with a bow was in'97. The meat locker that processed him had a chart they use for deer that determines live weight based on dressed weight upon receipt. They weighed mine and remarked that he would likely have weighed right at 345# on the hoof. They also said that he wasn't the biggst they'd had in there. I mounted that deer and it took a form that had an eye-to-nose measurement of 7-3/4 inches - pretty common at that time. Since then, I've seen the majority of the deer I receive in my shop using forms that have eye-to-nose measurements of 8 to 8-1/4 inches. Any mature bucks with less than 8 are almost uncommon anymore, and I allow for some slack in the cape when I buy to minimize any chances of drumming. Until about 7 years ago, those forms were hard to come by and I had to purchse them from vendors that cater exclusively to places like Alberta, Canada. Those big bruisers are few and far between, but I believe they're here. Even the NR hunters that come here from more northern states remark at how large our deer are, body wise.
Maybe it's from eating all that bull(beep) lying around.

Cdog911, I believe you. We have some large bucks in Iowa also. I thought I was gonna bust a gut when I loaded a Boone & Crocket class Iowa buck into bed of my truck all alone. That was a long time ago.

That's funny Rich. I'm fairly young and my doctor even recommended Metamucil to me. One orange flavored cocktail in the morning and one in the evening. The turds are unbelievable!

Does Metamucil give you the runs. or make them into nice solid floaters?
