Campout:
The pluses: Can meet a great bunch of guys.
Have a chance to shoot some coyotes, grey foxes, bobcats and maybe a chance at a lion.
See some different country, have a good time and have some great food..
The minuses: unfamilar territory, can be exspensive, not much help for finding areas to hunt. Not alot of time to enjoy it all..

Just a mild rebuttal, Tim.

If you ask for some help, I think others that know good spots will offer them? I think you had some help, right?

What the Huntmasters Campout does not have is a Master of Ceremonies, or an Activities Director, or a raffle, or door prizes. Nothing commercial whatsoever. It's like a deer hunting camp, without the deer.

Yes, if you have to travel a long distance, it can be expensive. On the other hand, we don't require all participants to pay $150 dollers, like some do. It's free!

Good hunting. LB

I'm not complaining Leonard so don't take it the wrong way. Just thought i would let some of the guys who have not been there know what the good and the bad was..
Yes i asked about five or six of the local members for some info. You remember the big hill to the north of camp on the north side of interstate. thats the area all 6 members pointed to.. LOL
All i'm saying is there is room for some improvement.
What i spent for the trip, i could of spent here at home and made 3-4 trips to S.D. and that is what has come to mind for this year. I'm not saying someone has to show me or others the exact location to call but a good idea of where to start would be helpfull. Hopefuly you can understand where i'm comeing from...

Well hell, all this time I thought Tim B was the master of ceremonies. Go figure.
Seriously, It was a blast. Had only been a member here for a couple months, and met some great people and now life long friends. And distance is no factor when your ridin' with a Cajun. Maintain, Geordie

Geordie,

I'm a master at debauchery, but that's about it.

Another down side, sometimes people feed the cook whisky in the middle of the afternoon, That generally causes the dinner to be late, some steaks cooked for too long and others not cooked long enough.

( Notice that I was careful not to mention Vic by name ) [Big Grin]

Still, it's the best cheap entertainment you can get, with out having to worry about statutory limitations!

Wait til this year Tim. Im gonna feed ya some whiskey that will sneak up and make ya slap your gramma. [Big Grin] Ask JD. I promise to not leave it home this time.

I dont care where it is. We can find enough coyotes to have some fun. For me at least, its about good times, good people, good food and lots of laughs. Numbers dont mean a thing.

Actually, I enjoy hunting with different folks and seeing how they hunt and what they do differently. How they think and approach a stand. If we kill a coyote or two during the day, all the better. We spent most of a day trying to get to one spot, trying to get past a flooded river, the second day last year and I had a blast laughing at Tyler and Loco. The fact we called and killed one coyote was mute.

I called it, never saw it, Tyler killed it and it was all good. We could have killed ten and wouldnt have been any more fun.

The campouts a good time.

LB, the no $150 is good. Everyone donates to Tim, thats good. In defense of what I think your referring to, its not a bad thing either. You get way more than your $150 worth, IMHO. Its just an assurance that the guys that do all the "Tim" jobs dont get stiffed. It seems every year at that event that one or two show up that came expecting a professional guided hunt, not a "deer camp" and would have stiffed, most likely. Granted, those individuals have never attempted to return.

The first year I was there, there was a group from IL that showed up that fit the bill above perfectly. DanS and I were getting ready to head home and were saying goodbye to the guys and that crew drove off for the east without saying hi, bye or kiss my ass. Pissed off because they didnt get guided properly in their mind and one got stickers in his penny loafers he wore to the stand. Thats not a joke either. They didnt have the proper equipment. They elected to stay in Douglas at a motel and showed up an hour after daylight and were pissed no "guides" were left to take them out. [Roll Eyes]

I'll try to work it out so that everybody gets to ride with a Cajun. That really would add to the experience!

Vic pitched in and grilled those steaks very well! It was the hotdogs that gave him trouble, as they were not marked in any way?

Good hunting. LB

Tim, all six of those members pointed you in the right direction. Those are the Picacho Mountains and the area surrounding them is full of fox, coyotes and bobcats. That is one of our honeyholes for the contest hunts. Gary Clevenger asked me were to go at the campout and I pointed at the picachos just as your six members did. Gary drove over and called in six fox and I believe a coyote.

Leonard, I am not sure there are many that want to ride with this Cajun. Shaw didn't like the turn around on top of the canal levee. JD and Brent were ok with the dirt road travel till I found the Rattler. Geordie found out a camper can be backed down an entrance ramp to the Interstate. Criner found out that flooded rivers are no reason to turn around if a coyote may be on the other side.

Oh and Geordie, I will have an extra can on the next trip. LOL

LOL, That won't even get the Cajun express cranked. Gas for that thing runs around 60 dollars per gallon, but it comes hand delivered by Poncho.

If you guys choose to come to N Az, you will see very little "desert". This is Mountain country! Pine forests, Pinion/Juniper forests, Transition zone type stuff. Elk(lots of them) a few mule deer that the lions have left, antelope, javalina, coues deer.
Actually called the Upper Sonoran Desert, and very different from the Lower Sonoran Desert we were camped at last year.

Let's put up a bulletin board for rides needed / riders wanted. Maybe fill out a small slip of paper at the end of the day, so we'll know at the end who did all the hunting, who did the killing, and who did the drinking and eating. And bring a couple of big cans and plenty of garbage bags so we can haul out the plastic and recycle the aluminum.

Has anyone taken a long look at the calendar yet? My club is going to talk about setting their hunt dates tonight.

Just being brutally honest here, so I hope nobody takes offense.

But, frankly, I wouldn't go all the way to Arizona to hunt coyotes. I'd go somewhere else, closer, for that.

But, for a chance to sit around and eat good grub and drink good whiskey with Tim and Andy, maybe a good cigar thrown in, that's a different deal. I'd love to drive to Arizona for that.

Not likely to make it, but not entirely out of the question either. I'll try.

That would just top the trip, Dave. Damn sure wish you would make it. We could do some serious lie tellin with some good likker and good Hondurans, eh? [Cool]

BTW, I bought a box of those El Rey Del Mundos you turned me on to. I think Behle had the same ones at Christmas this year? Anyhow, it was the one you told me to get and they are spectacular. Thanks.

That's just it, Dave.

I could hunt other, more convenient places, if my object was a high body count, but it's a campout, not a slaughter house. Nobody tries too hard, I mostly don't leave camp in the morning until the best hunting is already long past.

But, on the other hand, some of these guys from way out of town, really want to kill a few animals, and who can blame them?

That's the main attraction, is meeting guys from the Board under a very friendly relaxed atmosphere. We could stand a few dogs, but no waitresses and no tipping allowed...unless it's whiskey or cigars.

It's a good time, worth the effort. Shit, we could sell tickets if we advertized that DAA would be there! lol

Special note to Randy Reeves. Huntmasters is just kidding you, we only kid with those we like.

Randy took minor exception to the comments around the campfire that he reminded everybody of Byron South. I think(?) he thought it was negative but it definitely was not! He's a fun guy to be around, just like Byron, and honestly he looks and talks a bit like him, as well. He's another guy that gives the event a little class. Hope he makes it again this year!

Good hunting. LB

Leonard, no objections here. My feelings are a long way from my shoulders.I had a great time. Plan to have it again this year. Only work will keep me away. This has been a really hectic year. These Oil Companies are keeping me lined up pretty hard. I have even bought a "New" Camper just with the campout in mind. Alls good.

Randy,

Nobody would have made any comparison to you and Byron, until Higgins went around offering bribes to anyone who told you how much you and Byron looked and sounded just alike.

Vic and I each got a Higgins Howler, Andy and Leonard got cigars, but I don't know what he was paying everyone else off with.
