Well we started out with overcast skies and no wind but had no takers except a cat that appeared out of nowhere and then disappeared until 10:00 or so when the wind switched out of the North at 30mph and the rain began to fall. I called a coyote who came in to my right and a little behind me but missed him 3 times before he got out of sight. Called a couple more stands but the rain wasn't letting up so we headed for lunch.
Got back out about 2:00 and called and shot a coyote, then a bobcat using a new (to us) technique but at 5:30 we realized we were 5 miles down a muddy pipeline from my truck and then an hours drive on to check in. So we called it quits and headed home. Heres a pic I took from my cell phone.
Donovan called me this afternoon and allowed 5 coyotes won it and payed $700.00. I figured 5 wouldn't get into the money after years past, guess it was a tough day for all. Maybe next time. [ January 28, 2007, 05:05 PM: Message edited by: TOM64 ]

That's a good looking bobcat Tom. Can you tell us a little more about your "new technique"?

Tom, thanks for calling the other day. WE will have to make a hunt before the end of season. I see you have a base drilled and tapped on your handguard.....I did the same and mounted an eotech on it....only got to make two stands since I got it sighted in. I think I am going to like it for the close stuff and fast stuff. eotech

Kelly, I just saw you were from Comanche. My parents are both from Temple (bet you know where that is). I don't get down there much anymore, but always loved coyote and goose hunting around Waurika Lake. I just got access to a ranch down on the river. Maybe we can get together for a hunt when I find some time to get down there and check it out.
I still want to know about Tom's new technique?

Brad, I grew up in Temple. Class of 76. My father was/is the barber there. Jack Jackson. He is 76 years young and still going down to the shop 3 days a week even if he has no customers to speak of. Temple has pretty well dried up. What is your dads name?
small world.
I live out by Waurika Lake...quite a few coyotes and geesse in the area for sure I have shot both while in my back yard.
Where you hunting on Red. I know alot of the folks from Byers bridge to south of Randelette
Get ahold of me if you get down this way.
Oh yeah - Tom I am alway up for a new cat trick myself. please explain.

Small world indeed. My dad's name is John Norman. My mother, Cecelia "Bentley". I think you graduated about the same time as my Aunt Becky Bentley. My dad said your dad started cutting his hair when he was 12 or 13. When he was in high school he played quaterback and he said when he would get his hair cut your dad was always telling him what the coach was doing wrong. He said your dad never missed a practice or game. I told him your dad was still working and he wants to drive down there and get his hair cut!
My granddad was Bill Bentley. He had Eagle's Nest and Castaway Bay out at Waurika. We spent alot of time down there, especially during wheat harvest!
The place on the Red is a family friend Phil Scott. He said he sold all the land on the south side of the river but still has plenty of coyotes. Hell, you probably hunt it already!
My apologies to everyone for taking up the space to give a family history. Talk to you soon Kelly.

Guys as I said it was just new to us, probably old hat to most here. Still goes against everything I ever thought I knew about calling, which ain't much.
Someone said in another post here "the more I go over the basics the more I learn" or something like that. I've been so busy trying to figure out this howling thing and "talking" back and forth with them that I overlooked the basic principles of: finding the right sound, getting that sound to them and being able to make the shot.
If ya'll want more than that, then come hunting. Just don't set your expectations too high.
Brad, where do you live and hunt now?
Kelly, I have another AR rigged with an Aimpoint and after seeing the devistation the ice storm did to the area we hunted, I wished I had it or my shotgun. I've seen both rigged up before like yours, it makes sense. Also been looking at the Dr Optic mounted on top of a regular scope... but the coyote I missed was in my scope, he just kept zig zagging around all the limbs on the ground and I kept shooting where he was instead of where he is.

yep Becky and I were in the same class. oh yeah dad is still cuting the q-backs hair and telling them what the coach is doing wrong. Dad would love to see your dad Johnny. Have him give dad a call it would make his day. I knew your grandpa Bill pretty well. He was a good man.
Only heard good things about your dad...word has it he is who to call if you are in a real jam.
I who Phil is, but I have never hunted his places. Don't know where is place is on the river, can't be far. If you decide to come down somwe weekend send me a pm. My job tkaes me back and forth to Houston, but if I am around I'll sure go.
oh yeah I met another lawyer from OKC that has a killer place on deep red north of Randelett. He said give him a call after deer season, but I have not yet. There are lots of coyotes on his spot. I call some of the suronding places..
Tell your aunt Becky I said HI. Catch you later Kelly

Tom, I like the eotech, I think it will beat trying to carry both a shotgun and the AR, at least for me.
Okies the cats are coming right now. One of my partner has killed 6 in the last 8 days and my other partner had two on one set this afternoon....I made two stands after work with him, but we had no joy....guess he had already used his luck for the day...stay after them. Kelly

Kelly, my dad's going to give him a call.
Tom, I live north of Edmond. I have some land between Edmond and Guthrie. Do most of my hunting north of Perry. Really anywhere north of Highway 51 to the state line.

Hi Tom
Missed ya at Antlers this year. Looks like you did better than we did. Can you say SKUNKED.
My partner drove a ways to hunt with me this year so we went out again Sunday morning. Hunted the same first 3 stands from Saturday and called 2 Bobcats right off the bat. Heres a picture of him with the first cat.
