Could you AZ guys inform me of the regs concerning firearms in Arizona? We are coming to Williams, and I already read that our shotguns can't hold more than 5. So I'll have to plug my Benelli. What about AR magazines? I don't have any 5 rounders but I see in Midway I can order them. Any other dumbass laws I need to be aware of? I just as well get them all down before we head out. If we hunt the rez do the same laws apply? Thanks!

I did some calling in AZ once, but used Uncle Jay's rifle. The length of pull on that rifle must have been somewhere around 16". Holy cow, that guy must be part ape or something! They should have named him knuckle dragger.

Cal, that is my understanding of the rules.... 5 rounds total with SG or rifle...
A new crazy rule is that you can marry your hunting partner if you wish.. :}
I am sure Rich / Tim / Vic and others are more intimate with the rules..

Make that three, not five for the scattergun my friend, two in the magazine and one up the pipe. Rifles are limited to five rounds.

Quit confusing me guys. It's too easy. Vic, the contest rules state that AZ rules are that a shotgun can only have 5 in the magazine. I don't like that, but I like it alot better than 3! I was afraid of that on the rifles though. Damnit, now I have to order another magazine for my AR, or leave it home.
Oh, and Norm, my calling partner is ugly and snores, so a proposal is not in the works.

Cal, I think you can cut a small block of wood and fit it inside the spring in the magazine, so that the follower hits against it and won't allow more than 5 rounds loaded. I don't know the exact length required, but it is a lot easier with a 20 round, rather than a 30 round. Dumb ass PC law.
Good hunting. LB
PS when you plug the shotgun, make sure that it holds two 3" shells and you cannot sneak three 2 3/4" shells in it.

Vic,
That just shows that you don't hunt with a shotgun nearly often enough. The have upped the limit to 5 rounds in the magazine.
You can't shoot FMJ bullets, or with in a quarter mile of ANY structure which MIGHT be occupied.
Also, if you are violation of any child support order, it is illegal to hunt, fish, trap or even put in for a big game draw.
Legal shooting hours are daylight hours only. You can pull off of the road to park, but you can not drive off of the road, except to recover big game. No shooting from the truck or road. If the road is paved, be sure to hold the muzzle over the right of way fence before you shoot.
AZ is open range for cattle, those cattle didn't get loose, and you are in their way. Coming from the cold country, you might want to wash the salt from your windows and mirrors. The cattle will smell it and you will end up with slobber marks so thick you can't see.
Most land is legal for hunting, to be legally posted, it must have a sign at every drivable entrance, and every quarter mile in between. An orange painted post can be substituted for the in between signs.
Tribal lands are like foreign countries, they make their own rules and give their own permits. Some, like the one that Leonard likes to make asterisks of, have found that they can make good money selling impounded trucks and rifles. It's probably safer to hunt coyotes in Mexico, than try it in the land of Asterisks.

No shit....five rounds now? I'll be damned, been three for as long as I can remember!
I use a pencil for a plug Cal, just cut it long or short enough that only the correct number of legal rounds are stuffed in teh magazine.

Another thing about the Benelli SBE. You can plug the magazine to hold two, put one in the barrel, and lay another shell on the magazine follower. It will cycle all four shells slick as a whistle.

Tim, that 5 rounds in the magazine; is that just for predator hunting, or for everything.....quail, ducks, ect. ??
Posted by Rich Higgins (Member # 3) on November 09, 2006, 09:22 PM:
Kokopelli, the two in the magazine rule applies to all migratory birds including dove. It does not apply to quail.

Thanx Rich !!
Since I state hop quite a bit, I think I'll leave the plug in my shotgun, just to be on the safe side. Can't remember to many times that I've needed a volley of 4 or 5 without having time to feed a couple more in.
Hope that the wardens are aware of the change. That 3 shell rule has been around for so long that it's just a given fact. Hell.... I once had a warden check my slug gun for a plug.

they make a plug for AR-15 mags that plug a 10 rounder to a five round mag. They are like 2 bucks. I don't know how to get them on the net but a store near me --has-- them. You could easily make your own with a small piece of sheet metal. If you want I can take a pic of it so you can see how to bend it.
edit: why did it put ******* in place of cells exept with a S?

Yeah, Browning guy. We're working on it. Some bug in the program. LB
The really simple solution I made is with a piece of wood about ¼x1¼" and I'm guessing it was about five or six inches long? You just remove the bottom plate and insert the wood in the middle of the spring and replace the plate. The realy hard part is in counting the total number of cartridges you can jamb into the magazine afterwards. It is/was a trial and error method, and it doesn't permanently alter the twenty round magazine....which are more scarce than the thirties, and which I like a whole lot better.
Now, somebody says that they make ten and five round magazines? What won't they think of next? Glory Be! Well, that's how much interest I have in the stuff (accesories) for the machine guns.
One thing for sure, it is a complete joke. There is no burning need, (in the woods) for five round magazines, or any other number. Purely bureaucratic BS, something for the "control freaks" to regulate.
I think the enforcement of the shotgun capacity is an example of regulation gone amuck. Exactly how many times have you needed a fourth, or fifth shot, on birds in the air? Why do they care so much? How many hunters have been busted for this infraction? Why? Why do they care? Why is it important? Why do they make a shotgun with an illegal capacity? Don't bother answering the question, because I'm not buying it; just something I must go along with.....and it irks me and I will now climb down off my soap box.
Good hunting. LB

I agree with you Leonard, but I am glad for the tips. I got one of my AR mags succesfully blocked for five rounds. Now I need to check on what to stuff in my extended Benelli mag to limit it to 5.

As for a sidearm, you can carry it pretty much anywhere in AZ as long as it is exposed. No permit required. Just don't wear it into a bar, or any business that has a no weapons sign on the door.
We go to Wal-mart and the grocery store at least once a week, and it's pretty rare not to see at least one person open carrying while there.

Cal, probably too late but if you have a Colt 9 rd mag you can use a green (30rd) follower to block it to 5 rds and they feed pretty good.
As for plugging my Benelli, I welded a rod to a washer then let the spring hold it to the end of my magazine, it prevents it from rattling.

I just used my standard plug and it made my shotgun a 5 rounder with three inch mags, which is all I shoot so I guess that is acceptable.
