During the mid-afternoon today, the national news advised that a small plane had hit a NYC highrise. At the time, it was uncertain if the incident was an accident or an act of terrorism. Sadly, NY Yankee player Cory Lidle was piloting the plan with his flight instructor and they were both killed.
Upon the first report, I immediately thought, "Uh-oh. It's 10-11." About fifteen minutes later, a ground shaking roar came from overhead above the overcast skies. You could tell that it wasn't civilian aircraft. At 3:15, I heard another jet and looked up. This time, it was an F-18 lightin' 'em up heading WSW. Moments later, the radio announced that although NORAD felt the incident in NYC was an accident, they still scrambled fighter aircraft around major metropolitan areas. Just goes to show how on edge we remain even today.
