Author Topic: Cigar Help Andy L HI, I'M THE NEW MODERATOR OF THE CENTRAL MISSOURI FORUM, PULL MY FINGER! Member # 642 posted April 23, 2006 07:40 AM                   Tim or Dave or anyone else that knows something about cigars, help please!! Im not educated about cigars in the least. I do however, enjoy them as much as anyone. Last week I was in Mexico, south of Cancun, for a few days of RandR. I wanted some good cigars. I tried several and found the one I liked the best, even better than Cubans, was a Mexian cigar. Its label says it was made in San Andreas Tuxtla. Also it says "Del Paraiso". And, Veracruz Mexico. It cost 41 Pesos. Its a mild cigar, to me, and even my wife likes the smell. I have run some searches on the net and wondered if some of you fellers could help me find where to get these. If not these, could you please clue me in on something similar and where to get them. Thanks in advance, Andy Edit, I re read this and Im also not very familiar with Pesos. They cost about $4 US. The label says $41.00, that is in pesos. Everyone has different likes and dislikes, thus the amazing variety of cigars available. Ive not heard of the meskin "puros" you mentioned, but Veracruz is south enough, Im sure they get their hands on just as good a seed as they do further south in real cigar country. Personally, if there is a better smoke than a Padron maduro 3000 or anniversary, I don't know of it:) You opened a can of worms here buddy, there will be a dozen different opinions, but hey, that gives you the pleasure of trying a bunch of different brands and qualities. Several of my favorite cigars were made in Nicaragua. Including the La Fincas. Are the little 50 cigar ones for 60 bucks or so ok? If Im gonna order a few to see what I like and maybe buy in small bulk later, I may want one? Or not? I quit smoking over 30 years ago and could start again in a second. I still find myself trying to stand downwind of anybody smoking. Best prices and best service. I also did a search and came up empty? Generally speaking, Dominican cigars are as good as there is; including Cuban, which are too strong to suit me. But they get wrappers and fillers from all over the place, and make them in a bunch of different countries, so it's hard to make statements about Cuban or Mexican or Honduran, etc. Good hunting. Tim, I quit Cope now about 47 times already. I still get tempted everytime I go to 7-11. I'm to the point where I buy a can to keep me awake on a long drive or say while up elk hunting, I usually go through about 5-6 cans before I quit for another year. In my experience, it gets easier to quit everytime. I can now be on a job site and bum a chew once every several months and not have to get re-addicted. Congrats by the way. You must be very mucho much more richer now. $6 bucks a can???? i can remember as a kid before the sin tax, I'd pay for a can with a dollar and get an even quarter back! And I'm not even old like you! I lived in the Domincan Republic for 10 months. i took a brick of cope cans with me. When it was all gone, I would go to any old tiny little snack stand and buy a pipe bowl's worth of tobbacco and use it for a dip. LOL Dominicans always carry around a torn piece of brown paper bag and a little pouch of tobacco to roll their own Domincan cigars. Even the women do do it. Picture this, an 80 - year old Black Dominican woman, wearing raggedy looking blouse and a towel around her head, a long skirt, wringing out her laundry with a big old honking Homemade cigar hanging out of her mouth. All a matter of taste it seems. I got 25 LaFincas, Bolivares, 10 H.Upmann, Monarchs and they threw in 5 Angel 100s for free. I couldnt find the ones you were talking of Vic. Not on JR anyway..... But they (J&R)used to offer you a cigar similiar to what you want, if they don't stock it? Maybe it's phone orders, only? I always want celophane wrapped cigars/some aren't. A cigar that would cost $50 in the US is only $20 out on the ocean. Tempting, very tempting, not sure how I resisted. The higher the ring count, the larger the cigar. JR is a wholesaler to smaller stores, and they have a great selection. Cuban cigars can be bought online as well. I have smoked several boxes of the miniatures and a few of the larger ones and love them. I may order a box of the bigger ones. I think they are very good. I was thinking and I think I had a couple of LaFincas. If so, I did really like them. I think Mike had some at the last CG rondy. Im not positive, but that rings a bell. Hope so. Better selection than JR (CI has Padron's - my personal favorite), and has better specials too. Get on CI's mailing list. I almost never buy cigars unless it's a weekly or daily special anymore. With a humidor, it's easy enough to store a many month supply, so I can be patient and just wait for the super premiums to come along at a really good price. And, nothing against JR, I've bought from them too. And they do have some brands that CI doesn't. I was checkin out them and Leonards favorite, Partagas. Little more pricey, but I want to try all the good stuff... Thanks for the heads up on CI as well. I got on their mailing list. Do they put good ones on special sometimes? Kinda funny, the first LaFinca out of this batch I didnt like. It seemed hot. But, I have smoked four since and they have been fantastic. Is there such a thing as getting a bad one? I ordered some smaller ones today. The H. Upmanns, I really, really like. Cant afford them for everyday, but they are really good. The Angels I got for free are supposed to be good, Ill try them this weekend.
