A little brisk this morning. 18 below zero, and they say we will get a little breeze later, making windchills 40 to 50 below. [ February 17, 2006, 06:31 AM: Message edited by: Cal Taylor ]

53 here when I left for work. I forgot to turn the heater on in the truck until I was almost to town.
Lucky for me I was wearing a sweatshirt!

It's not that bad here. It was 8 this morning, the sun is shining, but the temps seem to be dropping, it's 3 now. Tonight it's predicted to be -11 with 10 to 20mph wind.
Tomorrow is supposed to be better, only 5 to 10mph winds, so the wind chills won't be as bad. The temps will be the same.
But by Tuesday the temps are supposed to be back up to freezing (32) during the day, so it's going to be a short snap here.
later, scruffy

Weather here, has been acting like spring, 85/90º all week, but the past couple days, like right now, it's about 51º? Factor in the windchill and that's almost in the forties? Burrr!
We have not had a freeze so far. Last year I had a lot of damage to my tropical plants, so this year, I took precautions and, of course ....nothing yet?
You know, I (I mean, we) have been pondering where to move and spend the rest of our "golden years". Jack's solution (NV) is a good one, but we are also considering Arizona, (the McNeal area?) and NM, maybe even Wyoming(?) but then I remember the *** ****** WIND! That's a nonstarter. Looking for a place where they don't hate Californians? Believe me, it's a quandary.
Main goal is to get the hell out of this state.
Good hunting. LB

Cal, That does a lot to dull the envy I have when I see what you get for a Bobcat pelt. You deserve it buddy.
The high is going to be 36 here Sunday, and were not sure we are going to live through it.

Me and the kids were going fishing out of Dana Point on Sunday. Forecast looks bad.
Here, it never got to 60º all day, barometer is dropping fast and they are predicting snow down to 3,000 foot elevation.
Good hunting. LB

Stalked in on a balled-up Red 1/2 mile out, many moons ago. Circa; 1976.
Pelts were going for $70-$100. It was during snowfly, Sunny & a NorWester wind rippin -60WC. My buddy waited in the truck.[The smarter of the two]
I shot the fox, by the time I stumbled back to the truck. I couldn't move any of my fingers. [I carried my gun under my arm & the Red, with my wrists. My buddy helped me into the truck, as I couldn't use my hands to open the door. The rest of my body was pretty stiff.
I yelled as my hands thawed[unbelievable pain]. He thought I was crazy. I agree'd.

Yeah, they are predicting "snow fly" here, down to 2,000 feet by Sunday morning. Right now, the CHP is escorting Friday night get-out-of-towner's over the I-5 "Grapevine", where it has been snowing for a couple hours, already. It's 51º right now, furnace has been on, all day. I kid you not, I don't remember the last time that happened? I want to move somewhere where it's warm.

It's only 46* here now, with my furnace running too. And I saw snow on the Chiricahuas on the way home.
I haven't yet checked the forecasted snow level. But I'm at 4200' your forecast of 2000' sucks!

Seen [many] a coyote laying out sunning, well below zero. I have come to know a couple of things, that make them hunker-in. Out of sight.
1. "Blowing" snow 2. Drizzle/sleet. -------------------------------- Last two winters, seen quite afew balled-up in -20 to -40WC.
Today it was Sunny & around -20WC, Coyotes were on the move. ---------------------- Reds, seem to handle the cold wind better than the Coyotes around here. Coyotes will often dig down in the snow. Where the Reds often don't.

It was cold today, but not unbearable. The wind never did come up, so I went trapping. But tonight it's predicted for 22 below, and it's 12 below already so I guess it will get there. More for tommorrow, I just hope the wind don't come up. I didn't have any additive in my diesel truck so it is gelled tight. I'll be driving the gas burner for a couple days for sure. As for the furnace, it's running full time, along with the pellet stove.

What do you mean; (sucks) Tim? It's already snowing at 3,000ft here, but the next front coming in will be much colder and with more moisture. I've been wearing sweats, all day.

Cal,
Is that [Pellet-stove] spliced into your furnace's duct system? Or is it added onto the furnace. Years ago, one of my BIL, had one. Never did understand how their hooked up

Tim and Leonard, you guys are funny. You guys and you heaters being on all day remind me of a couple of guys laying on your beach recliners, drinking iced cold Pacificos or lemonade, getting a few drops of water splashed on your legs and then going, "BRRRRRRRrrrrrrr." ![[Big Grin]](biggrin.gif)

2dogs, My pellet stove is in my basement. It is a free standing stove that doesn't attach to anything, just has it's own blower, like most wood stoves. They are a great investment, as far as I can see. It heats the basement and since heat rises, helps with the main floor also.

They seem to be out and about. The toms are really moving. I had another pretty good tom today and hopefully it will keep up for a few more days.
