I just found out that five months of frustration and being dragged around by realtors is coming to an end when we close on our new home tomorrow morning. We close on the old house with the new buyers Thursday. The past two days have been very rigorous and stressful as we've had a houseful of buddies that just happen to be boiler techs, electricians, roofers, inspectors and the like helping me to get thru problems the home inspector found. Right now is the first sigh of relief that I've allowed myself in over five months.
Needless to say, our new home isn't a mansion, but it's nice. Really nice. It's in one of the nicest neighborhoods in town. It's on my mail route, It's more than a half-mile from railroad tracks. It's on the highest point in all of Abilene and 95% of the city is south of my new front yard, stark contrast to where our old house is at. Street is new, new sewer lines, new water lines, new siding, new windows, new roof, less than a third of the yard I've been mowing for ten years, and we paid less a square foot for the new one than what we sold the old one for. I'll send my new address out to those that normnally need it when I'm sitting in my new office.
There are a lot of smiling faces at the Homman house tonight. Wahoo!!!

Yeah, but do the women there, treat you mean, in Abilene?
Way to go Lance, now get out there and get the lawn in. Nothing like a new house to soak up your spare change.
Good hunting. LB

Thanks, all. Jack -you got that right. My old yard has five huge trees and the first year, I toted off 300-+ bushels of leaves. Bought a mulcher the next year and went all environmental after that. LOL We're closing both houses on a really short lead and I foresee a very busy weekend, but it's a good kind of busy. Most everything we don't use on a daily basis is already crated up and stored either in our garage or off site to eliminate clutter during showing, so it's just a matter of loading the trucks and trailers with stuff and relocating it for good. My poor little girl has been five months without almost all of her Barbies, so she's really ready to get settled into the new nest.
Anyone that wants to help this weekend is sure welcome. We start early. LOL

Do me a favor and keep us updated on how many stubbed toes and bruised shins you get in the next few months. Should be interesting.
Fubling through the dark at 2am lookin for the bathroom. Its always been right here, for years. Owe, whats that, where did that couch come from. Oh, dammit, I live in a different house now.
Been there done that. Congrats and enjoy.

Andy,
I'm over 40 now, am addicted to coffee and find myself getting up at least three nights a week to pee. One of the conditions of buying this house was that it have a straight line between the master bedroom and the outhouse. In fact, my wife has informed me that the upstairs bath is the women's bathroom, while the guys can use the one downstairs. That'll change. The one downstairs doesn't have an exhaust fan. ![[Razz]](tongue.gif)

Don't fall for that, Lance.
She will have you wiping down the shower with a squeegee, and changing the TP holder, and you can't use the good towels hanging right there on the wall?
When I lived at home, we had the conveniently located girl's bathroom, and the boy's bathroom clear on the opposite side of the house....scarred me for life.
Compromise, flip for it; you wuss!
Good hunting. LB

I'm happy to hear about your good news Lance! FINALLY, I might add!!! Congrats.
I am hoping to make the same kind of change in the next few months also. My tiny little house has some really good equity in it. Problem is, we've been here 13 years and I really love my cheap house payment; but my little starter home is really shrinking fast. Just 3 weeks ago my home shrunk by 1/7. I've four critters in the ex-Master bedroom (had to, it was a lot bigger than their room). The newest addition is living in my bed dang it!!!!
Guess I'm gonna have to suck it up and make a change right quick. Actually, the ball is already rolling. ![[Smile]](smile.gif)

Danny,
I can tell you it's all about getting the right realtor. In our case, we wenmt with the same loser for five months. They paraded forty-plus total strangers thru our home, past my gun lockers, bitching because I kept the garage locked like a vault because I had trophy class antlers out there from customers and could never tell me why we failed to get a valid offer on the house. At the end of the five months, I smiled and told them to go pack sand in their collective asses and turned it over to a smaller agency with a growing track record. Posted the new listing at 4 p.m. on Friday, sold the house at 12:45 the next day. Sold the old house for almost twice what I paid for it 9 years ago. Like with you, it's just too small. The new one has room for me to offer a bunk to any of you guys that are pasing thru the area and need a place to rest your heels for the night which we just didn't have in the old house. I'll finally have an office rather than trying to hunker in one corner of the living room huddled over a keyboard trying to write while the entire family sits within arm's reach watching movies on the TV or the kids fighting. I've already got my framed pics of guys I've hunted with to adorn the walls, a few meager awards for different trapping and hunting theings I've done, coyote skulls and hides, my stuffed Wile E. Coyote to sit atop the new computer work center I'm building, and I'll be ordering a full size movie poster for "Coyote Ugly" to hang on the wall. Little room, about 12X14, and I'll have at least three different coyote mounts, my red fox pedestal, and the jackal wall mount, rugshells, couple deer heads - what my wife affectionately refers to as my "tribute to dead shit". Even gonna have my old recliner in there. Installing tracklighting to create indirect lighting rather than the current flourescents. Get it like I want it and they may never see me come out of there until time to go hunting next fall.
Oh, I'm, installing theatre sound in our new family room 'cause the wife's hobby is seeing every damned movie they burn to DVD. After all, if mama ain't happy, ain't nobody happy!

My wife is the same way. Has to see every damned movie they make, and wants to watch them all in surround sound.
Just two problems.
1) I don't like watching TV 2) I don't like loud noises
So we compromise. ( She always gets her way )
I take a two hour nap on the couch wearing ear plugs.

Thanks to all. And Higgins, you'd like Lisa. She's one of those ppl that's kinda quiet and reserved when first you meet, but I can tell you from personal experience that her wit can cut like a hot knife thru butter when she launches a zinger.
This wiull probably be my last popst for a day or two. Will be having withdrawls tomorrow for sure but my internet provider won't be able to activate my new service until Monday and there won't be anything here by this time tomorrow but me and my 'puter. Besides that, I may be a tad bit busy tomorrow moving all y stuff. Ya know? When I moved into this house, it took four truckloads of stuff and about a day. We've been moving crap for two and a half days and we're still sleeping on mattresses on the floor tonight. When I first came here, I had one TV. Today, we moved five, plus DVD's, VCR's, stereos, subwoofers, computers, and about a grain truck load of Bratz dolls. I now know where all my pocket change goes. Friggin' toys!!!

That's the part that worries me. Just the thought of moving scares me. Thirty years worth of stuff; where do you start? I need to go lay down.
Good luck, Lance. LB
edit: and I agree with Higgins, that is a gem: tribute to dead shit. Actually, that's what my wife calls my trophy room; "The dead room". [ February 18, 2006, 08:13 PM: Message edited by: Leonard ]

I had just told my wife about that comment from Mrs. Homman and she told me that her and the critters refer to mine as "The Dead Zoo".
Too funny. ![[Smile]](smile.gif)

The "Dead Zoo", huh? That's a good one, too. And you doesn't have to calls her "Mrs. Homman". Cripes, she's only 30-something. She much prefers "Lisa". I couldn't guess why though. Hahaha.
Well, we made it and I got my office together. The rest of everything is packed in crates and boxes in the garage, the dining room, the living room, the family room. I just found our dinner plates about an hour ago while looking in a box full of tools for a hammer and won't be able to dig them out until tomorrow. We had grand plans of keeping everything clearly labeled so we wouldn't lose track of where things were going.
Yeah, right.
That went okay until my entire family and friends showed up and started "speed moving", which is comprised of throwing anything that isn't nailed down (and a few that were) into anything that will hold them and tossing the whole nine yards onto a truck. I do appreciate thyeir help, but I'll spend at least as much time reorganizing stuff before I know where anything is. I have to find my ID badge for work Wednesday, and I think I can find some clean skivvies for tomorrow, but I ain't betting any money on it.

Lance, we moved here 30 years ago and still have some things packed away in our garage! Guess we don't need it very bad, whatever is up there. Now I want to move just to get all new things. But the thought of packing up the dead room and garage would be to overwhelming. Maybe that is why we have stayed here so long.
Also, our bedroom and master bath is done in sage green and pale lilac. It is decorated with Iris accents. I do the all the painting so I pick what I like, lol. Len is a good sport about it too!
Congratulations on your new home!
