Some of you know that I went under the knife on may 9th for quadruple cardiac bypass surgery. Recovery has been a daily fight, a personal war you might say. Mood swings and nightmare's were horrible for a few months. I am still a little bit short winded, and get light headed feeling when I over do it. I started an exercise program at a really nice gym, and am now two days into my fifth week with this program. I made three goals for myself before starting the program. 1. walk one mile on treadmill, non-stop. 2. Bench press 200 pounds on the Smith machine. 3. Regain enough confidence to begin travelling out alone for out of state coyote calling.
I have reached two of my goals now. I walk one mile non-stop on treadmill, and just today I bench pressed 200 pounds on the Smith machine. I still don't feel quite ready for the out of state travel, but it looks like I am getting closer to that goal.

Well you know you're welcome here when you do feel like traveling.
Congradulations, those are some very good accomplishments in a short amount of time!

Good to hear from you, Rich. As I am a new member of the inferm, I can appreciate your situation. I guess every day is a little victory? I don't know how much pain you are experiencing at this point, but 200 pounds is a fair accomplishment, at our age, I think?
Hope you continue to improve.
Good hunting. LB

Rich, you got a place to stay in NM when you feel up to it. You could get out and hunt some of these western coyotes. My truck is set up to hunt coyotes from, it's legal in NM. All you do is sit down in the back of the camper shell and wait for em to show up. God bless ![[Smile]](smile.gif)

Rich, congratulations on your recovery. Impressive improvement on the SMITH machine. Unlike you and Leonard I am not among the infirm but still in my prime. I can still bench 200 on the Jones machine, without using my hands.

yeah, right. But, how much can you squat, rookie? And, don't exagerate, Vic knows this stuff too.

Rookies don't squat on the Jones machine, the ladies do. Vic could have told you that.

Rich Higgins, Vic tells me that you are ok from the shoulders down. It is above the shoulders that concerns him. ![[Smile]](smile.gif)

Leonard, Just waking up in the morning is a little victory for me. I have no pain now, just get tired easy and get these light headed feelings, kinda like when a man is about to faint. Heal up quick Leonard, the coyotes are anxious to hear your call.

If he is tough enough to sleep over a three day dead coyote, I don't want to mess with him.
The other twin is definitely taller.
He does walk a little bit like Chuck Norris, though. (don't know what that means?)
Good hunting. LB

Hey Leonard, when the time comes to have those staples removed, gimme a yell. I don't charge nearly as much as the doctor does, and much less than any deductible. I take my kids' stitches out all the time and am pretty good at it. Kinda like stitching up a deer, just going in reverse.
Man, I can empathize with you guys on the feelin' faint thing being an "inconvenience". I never got lightheaded last summer with my ticker problems, but I could feel my heart surge with every beat and you get kinda use to that rhythm just marching along. Especially when you drop a beat. A while back, I heard a woman dying of COPD describe sheer terror as suddenly finding it very hard to breathe, then drawing a breath with great difficulty and realizing that it might just be her last one. Last summer, I'd feel that beat drop and for about a second or so, I'd just sit there hoping for a ventricular escape beat to kick in. Luckily, it always did. (Whew!) That was enough to compel me to make some changes right there. First time I ever felt my mortality and once is enough.
The suture line looks pretty good. Not much bruising yet. Is the pain starting to back off a bit?

I feel your pain Leonard. What's life without a few battle scars. Do we need a thread on best (worse) looking battle wounds? On another note, Tim told me to come take a look at Leonard's wife with the grandchild. I told him that must be Leonard's daughter and granddaughter, then he scrolled down to show that it was indeed your wife. She looks great.
Best wishes on your road to recovery!

Yeah. I think?
Actually, our daughter, Shelley is the looker in the family....but, come to think of it, her boy friends were always a little flirty with her mama. [ December 06, 2005, 09:34 PM: Message edited by: Leonard ]

Leonard, Nancy said you had a partial replacement. Did they replace the ball or the socket? And why?

Rich, I really don't know what they did? Yes, they said "partial" but my understanding is that it refers to the inside part of the knee, not the outer half. Then again, he said that a full replacement would involve a cut right dowm the middle of the kneecap and the partial would be a three inch cut along the inside. Well, to my untrained eye, what I have doesn't look like either description, not as long as the complete knee replacement, but a lot more impressive than a three inch side cut? What they took out, I don't know? All I understood was that they were going to install a piece of highly polished titanium and a matching piece of some type of plastic, for the movement? What they needed to remove for fitting, I don't know?
I take Vicodin and something called "soma" four times a day, and 325mg asprin to prevent blood clots. My knee tells me when to take the pain medication, but it aches almost constantly. They talk of "pain management" rather than eliminating pain altogether. This is more difficult in some ways, than I expected; in other ways, less so.
Good hunting. LB

Rich,
Absolutely wonderful!!! I didn't know you were going to have the surgery. I am very happy you are doing well. Hurry up and get out of town! It'll be good for you!
JRB, LOL I thought that was a very hairy chi-chi there for a minute. After staring at the photo for a bit, I figured it was just an old man's pregnant looking tummy with staples from his chest to tummy.
I guess it pays to read the post first.
Leonard, get well soon Bro'!!!!! ![[Smile]](smile.gif)

Hello Huntmasters, This is Leonards daughter, Shelley: a.k.a. "the looker in the family"! (Thanks, daddy!)
My mom told me to go to this site to look at the knee photo....I have to agree....at first I thought it was a pregnant belly with a piercing! Or a breast! LOL Ouch!!! That looks pretty painful.
Happy Shopping...I mean hunting.

Boy, is that ever the truth! I'm glad the bills don't come to me, any more. Poor Corey, trophy wives are expensive. I need to send a bunch of Tahoe pics up to you, but have not got around to it, yet. Sorry.
It (leg photo) does look like it hurts, and believe me, it does!
Good shopping! LB
