If anyone ever wondered what it would be like to have a major urban center hit by a nuclear weapon, and how we would manage it, New Orleans to Biloxi and Gulf Port appear to be about as close to the real deal as we've ever been or ever feared being. Having worked both floods and multiple casualty incidents before, I can hardly fathom what emergency officials and rescue people are doing right now. The geographic expanse of this incident makes it even more significant than 9-11 was, as far as managing emergency rescue and recovery resources.
But, we will persevere. And, without anyone's help since I don't see foreign countries offering much of substance nor do I see the liberal Hollywood weenies lining up to put on the most recent verion of Aid concerts.
God be with the survivors of Katrina. We really need Him now.

A tragedy indeed, I have great sympathy for those folks down there. I pray they will endure.

Like many men often do, I went through a phase a few years back where I felt invinsible and became jaded to the things in life that really matter. Then, I was humbled by a serious event in my life and I have been a changed man ever since. This hurricane and it's severity has once again touched close to home for me... and again I find myself realigned with what really matters in life.
Too often we get caught up in work, politics, gas prices and petty arguments and forget what life is all about. Unforseen and unstoppable events like natural disasters change a lot of peoples lives, I hope the best for those affected and pray for the souls of those complaining about this disaster cluttering up their evening newscasts.

Last night, it was announced that help was enroute from Russia, France, Japan and Canada. I stand corrected, and gladly.
In the flood of '93, I was part of Incident Command when the Solomon River flooded a large part of four different communities in our county. The logistical issues involving the securing of potable drinking water, minimizing property damage, rescue efforts and the like were a challenging 24-hour round-the-clock effort, and it involved barely 1% of what officials in New Orleans alone are dealing with today. Not only are homes and lives lost, but the damage to the infrastructure is almost unfathomable. The remainder of the country will find themselves absorbing these people and their lives from here on out. I hope that the charity of the American public continues for months and years as we reach out to offer our homes and our communities to these people who have lost everything but the clothes on their backs, and in some cases, much more. If you have even as little as ten dollars to spare, take it to the Red Cross. They'll put it to good use.
