That's nothing compared to the museum in Elko.

Hell, we just got our first gas station last year. We aren't that big of a town to have fancy restaurants just yet. Most of our traffic problems are still caused by cattle in the road.

Give us another 30 years, or maybe we can get Vic to go build us something like that?

About 30 miles west of me is the most incredible zoo and museum I've ever been in. 145 acre zoo set in amongst Kansas mixed grass rangeland. It's actually an endangered species recvovery project that is set up like a zoo so ppl will come look and spend money to help support the project.

New and soon to open is a museum that, if you're ever anywhere around here, you don't want to miss. Here's a link to the costruction update..

http://www.rollinghillswildlife.com/museum/museum.html

This place is built so you pass from ecosystem to ecosystem until you've spanned the entire globe. At the end, before you exit, they'll have a special IMAX feature that takes you from being on the ground, launched into space, and traveling as the earth falls away from you. Supposed to be a very, very impressive facility. I had the privilege to tour the warehouses storing the mounts that were bought from estates, collections, etc., for this project - over $12M in all - and they'll have hundreds of mounts, some species of which have been extinct for over 50 years on display.

In one room, they bought a collection and had row after row of massive elk and cape buffalo shoulder mounts. At the time, pick the one you want and it was yours for $400. A taxidermist buddy of mine has done a lot of work for the ppl that run this place and I got to watch him do some work on the African elephant display.

That place Leonard posted looks like the mounts need some major TLC and a good dermestid beetle treatment.

Back in the late 60s I used to go to C.J. McElroys business and museum in Inglewood California, his animal display was awesome. Leonard I've heard of this place up in Sac, just never made it yet, thanks for posting it. Jack, where is this place at in Elko? I'll be up there again someday [Wink]
