After you have bought it is a bit late to be asking for opinions of it.

Actually Gutpile, it is never too late to discuss your interests and passions with people of like mind. Ronnie knows something about the 500. I don't know what he knows about the MR. I'm sure he will weigh in. The BFR was profiled on American Shooter last year. Looks like a handful.

Take me , for instance. I don't even know what y'all are talking about? I think you are discussing "wrist busters" but that's all.

I saw one the other day in a display case, a revolver chambered in 45-70.

I have one of those puny 44 Mags, as much as I care to handle!

Good hunting. LB

As far as Magnum Research goes. Who has brought anything out that can stand in the shadow of the Dessert Eagle .50 AE. I have never herd anything but good about the BFR. Never personally shot one.

What can you say about the 500 S & W. I don't know of any other Elephant guns you can carry on you're belt. Saw a show were they shot a Cape Buffalo with one. It went down faster than my stock portfolio has in the last two years.

I think you made a good buy.Be great to have under the seat when you are being tail gated by a Peter Built.

I have a couple of those big hand howitzers. T/C Encore 15 " barrel in 450 Marlin and 454. I don't think I can get hurt much more. Besides, if you guys saw the sausage fingers I have [ size 17 ring ] and the big ham hock hands, you'd laugh. The girls love 'em. Big hands, big ^$#%.

Yeah, right. And I wear a size thirteen shoe, but that's all I can brag about. [Smile]

Good hunting. LB

By the way, where does that 45-70 stack up against a 500S&W, or whatever else is out there? You, know, for target practice.

Good hunting. LB

Leonard, don't be shy. I don't know much about the 45-70. I know it's got more poop than the 450 and the 500 S&W has more poop than all of 'em. I don't know. Just like trucks, I buy them just because. Gotta have guns because we'll be in a world of hurt if we get a liberal in office. Gotta go itch my size 17 now.

I have the 45/70 revolver that MR now markets. The brother of hunting partner here designed and built the first ones. The larger calibars were designed and built initially for use in Alaska. He sold out to MR a while back and my direct source disappeared. The earlier models were 6 shot 45LC/410 with a screw in chokes so you could have both a protection gun and still hunt grouse. I have both the prototype revolver and the production revolver in 45LC/410. Really fun to shoot and hunt with.

My 5 shot 45/70 has an extra cylinder that allows me to swap them and shoot either 45LC/410 or 45/70 and of course is set up for a choke. I have two choke sizes.

The 45/70 is a gentle shooting revolver especially when compared to a 44 mag. Recoil is real controlable. Since mine is used mainly for grizz protection I use 405 grain bullets. The revolver is a bit heavy to lug around but is it fun to shoot! I can fire that revolver as fast as I get it on target. Seems that the recoil rotates the revolver back so that I can cock it on the down movement. Very fast and accurate. I can hit paper plates at 70yards. That revolver sits in my lap when when I'll carrying a light cal rifle when calling and the bears are still out. Only real downside is the expense to shoot it. Everyone that I has shot it is amazed at how little felt recoil that there is.

Have not shot the 500 yet so can't say much there.

Gutpile,

I got to fondle one of them for a few minutes while up in Tucson yesterday.

Nice little hand cannon! Wouldn't mind having one myself. I'd have looked a little longer, but it was at that time the wife came up behind me to remind me we were Christmas shopping for the kids.

I can't help but think that one of those would make my Javalina hunt just a little more interesting!

Tim,
I know what you mean. It seems like it's always Christmas for me. No kids. I'm the kid instead. I like it.........Went to Wyoming last July, stopped in Rawlins. Wife went antique shopping, I went .17 caliber shopping. I got a present, she didn't. Poor thing.
