I recently purchased this caller and was wondering which sounds work the best? This will be my first year going after coyotes. I live in eastern South Dakota. Any input would be helpful.
Thanx, Dave

WElcome to the New Huntmasters, Dave. Glad to have you on board.
I'm not even sure if that Prey Master is a Johnny Stewart machine, or not? I think it is? Anyway, I'll take a stab at it. A lot of folks think it's not "exotic" enough, but it's hard to go wrong with a jack and a cottontail distress. Beyond that, I don't know what's available?
Good hunting. LB

Open Mouth. Insert foot.
It's actually a great little caller. Plenty of volume and the JS sound library. The rabbit sounds are real good. The fox sounds are dyn-o-mite on grays out here in Az. I think the Vittles sound is available. If so, I need to get one.
It is somewhat water proof if you happen to dunk it, but that only happens if Higgins is with you.
For the money, the Purex Master can't be beat.

It is a great little caller. Very good sound, basically water resistant but does not float. Jay offers a custom upgrade called the Puroxmaster. Maybe he will be kind enough to post a pic/

Okay Jay Nistetter, which fox sounds work so well, fighting, kits, or?
Oh, and pics of the Purex Master would be great! I can hardly wait.

Thanx everyone for your input. We are expecting a hard freeze tonight with low's in the 20's. They say you can start after coyotes after the first hard freeze. I ordered a coyote #5 card yesterday to start my library of sounds. Good hunting to all.

The most successfull stategy in the Dakotas is to chase them down on a sled. Probably 90% of the coyotes taken are chased down with a sled. Early season calling before snow is your best bet for calling.

Jack,
For your information we haven't had a good snowfall in a long time unless you go out by Rapid City in the hills. I know of alot of guys who take coyotes all winter with rifles, not sleds.
