Good to see that the no's have it so far. AZCentral.com is doing another poll and the yes' have it there. Go figure. I thought I lived in a Conservative state. I think we've got too many California refuges. [ September 09, 2004, 12:54 PM: Message edited by: tonlocus ]

Really, Tony. You're welcome. You can have them, we won't miss them, a bit. But don't forget the liberal NY Jews moving to Snottsdale. They tend to vote in favor of gun control, ya know?
I voted. I think this assault weapon ban sunset is something neither party wants to have on their resume. It's like Congress not voting themselves a pay raise, instead, it's automatic, therefore, no risk, no blame.
Good hunting. LB

Hummm, most California refuges came from somewhere else to start with. Don't blame it on native Cali folks, we hunted and fished with the best of em. Come to think of it, did the Arizona guys ever win one of them California, Arizona hunts down at the river? lol ![[Big Grin]](biggrin.gif)

No, Danny. Facts are facts but it's not polite to mention it. AZ folks need to protect their image. Besides, it's not about numbers, it's about the total experience, getting out and enjoying the outdoors, right? Ah, seems like I beat you a few times, but like...who cares, right?

Wouldn't dream of blaming it on "native" Californians. Ya see here in Arizona we call them Mexicans.
Anyway, I'm sure you're as glad to get rid of the refugees as Leonard is. I just wish they'd go back to MA or NY, or some other liberal state so that they could be with their own kind.

Sounds like I have one fellow from Kaliforia, and another from New Mexico, who both are having a little diarrhea of the mouth when it comes to how "great" they are.
Anyone else notice how they are both coming to Arizona for the "hunt of lifetime"?
Either of you old-timers feel up to putting dinner on the line?

Tim, the CA/AZ hunts that Danny is refering to, most of them happened when you were in Kindergarden....LITERALLY. And it's true that the AZ hunters lost annually, a matter of historical fact.
No bets, no competition this time, just some fun, and friendly talk.
But, I hear you; AZ has some damned fine predator hunting!
(pause, pause)
.....especially down in the southeastern corner, close to McNeil. You folks ever get the chance, be sure and give it a try; you won't be sorry.
Good hunting. LB

Hey Leonard, I had heard that the Ca. teams always won the team hunts and I asked how can this be when Az. had the likes of the Dudleys and Del Western. I was told that the Ca. boys hunted at night and Az. hunted in the sunshine. Is this true?

I'm not sure about that one Rich, we simply out numbered you guys I believe. In there day Sam and Bill Dudley were the best, We know where Del Western was hunting, anybody can do good there lol. [ September 10, 2004, 08:54 AM: Message edited by: onecoyote ]

Hey Danny, I watched "Predator Safari" a while back. One of the first calling videos, made back in the early sixties. Del Western and friends calling on the ****** . Have you seen it?

there has always been a movement to make scoring in these hunts more equitable. Such as, points per man, instead of points per team. The reasoning being that if three men turn in 9 coyotes, and another two man team turns in 9 coyotes, that the two man team would win based on 4½ coyotes per man. That scoring never worked.
Same with two different clubs. If who wins is determined by which club has the most coyotes, which is the way it is, then, the more participants, the more dead coyotes. If California has fifty teams and Arizona has forty teams in the field, then the Dudley's can claim top individual honors and the whole state can still lose because of a smaller turn out.
That's the theory, anyway. It's like the American mens' basketball team always winning the gold medal in the Olympics....except this year. (I'd make those jerks pay for the trip home)
Arizona got slaughtered every year and, there was no interest in tinkering with the scoring system, so they simply decided to give up. Who can blame them?
Good hunting. LB

Rich, I always thought the name of that film was "Varmint Safari"? And, looking at the type of cover, it could be just about anywhere? Who knows?

Leonard, I know that "Varmint Safari" is the name of DAA's excellent video. I'll double check the name of Del Western's video. It is still sold at club meetings and I was told by members who should know that it was filmed on the ****** .
edit to say I still think that is very cool. "Soooo I'm thinking, "Who cares? What if she is rich and beautiful and wants to ****** ? So what? Of course my wife would blow my ****** off if she found out I ****** her. Best to just keep thinkin'." [ September 10, 2004, 10:58 AM: Message edited by: Rich Higgins ]

I have a story right in front of me about Del Western and Benny Murry his hunting partner hunting in a place that sure looks like the --------- to me. It also states the name of the film was Varmint Safari. Rich, I'd sure like to get my hands on one of those tapes. By the way, the story has pictures of the country they were hunting in, so I know where it was lol. [ September 10, 2004, 11:12 AM: Message edited by: onecoyote ]

Do I have to edit and delete? I sure hope not! I agree with Danny...WE CAN'T DETERMINE WHERE IT WAS FILMED.
And, Rich. Those guys you talk to, don't know any more than anyone else. It sure looks like we will never know the truth. Doesn't matter, does it?
Hey, how about those Diamondbacks! How'd they do this year?
Good hunting. LB
(talk about diarrhea)
edit: Lord help me! I know exactly where, but my lips are sealed; I swore an oath.
BE SURE TO VOTE!
edit: okay, okay! The truth is, that film was shot around McNeil, AZ. Satisfied? [ September 10, 2004, 11:50 AM: Message edited by: Leonard ]

It's called Coyote Safari.
I know where a lot of it was filmed and have talked with one of the camermen. I also have the movie in the 16mm format.
A lot of it was filmed on the (edited). The segments showing the hunters was filmed NW of Phoenix and also Wickenberg area and not on the (edited). When it came time to show a coyote getting busted, then they used footage they secretly took from the (edited).
Administrator: must be a bug in the program? sorry But, you are correct, Jay. The name of the film, which I have only seen on 8mm, (many years ago) is Coyote Safari. I knew it wasn't Predator Safari, but I was just as wrong as Rich. I guess we'll never know where the footage was shot...<sigh> LB [ September 10, 2004, 01:34 PM: Message edited by: Leonard ]

An after thought, why don't you old farts pull yourselves from the past. I know your glory days of a by-gone era still linger in your feeble old minds, but maybe you should grasp reality and take Tims wager. When you lose, Tim and I will garner support from the other guests here, and pay your way to the other hunt/rondy in Arizona, for some personal instruction in the "modern technique" of coyote killin:)
