Good or bad, this past season ranks as my all time worst year ever, for whatever reason that God and the coyotes only know. Having said that, there were a couple of shining moments and events that are well worth remembering.
For example, there's this guy...

January something or 'nother and I called him in with one of my own calls. Not as nice looking as those puffballs Cal showed us, but he weighed a good 30# and he fits this neat mannikin of a bobcat lying on its back, all twisted and snoozing. I'll post further pics of him when the mount is done.
This pic...

is literally the best view on my entire 19,000 acre route. I found it this year quite by accident and that last ridge of hills in the distance in seven miles away. It's actually 14 miles from Abilene and on a clear day, you can see the Kansas skyscrapers (grain elevators) just a couple blcoks from my house from this hill. As ideal looking a place as this is, I called here five times and didn't see a thing. But, it was hit hard by dog wagons early on and throughout the entire season driving the coyotes either into heavy cover or the middle of the night. But, for my area of farm country, it's sure pretty to look across and took the sting out of an otherwise uneventful morning.

Lance, Did you ever get a crack at that lion you were after? Steve

You know, Craig,
I hunted that area fairly hard and stayed in contact with two other guys that hunt up there and none of us saw a thing. Ironically, this is the first year that I haven't received any lion reports. From anywhere. We continue to have more and more sightings in the Lawrence/ KC area b ut nothing new this far west. Go figure.
