Cal, I just watched your hunt with Jerry on the Outdoor Channel. Way, way too short. It was like a teaser for a coming attraction. Ten seconds of your dog working just whetted the appetite for more. Was that taped last spring? Beautiful scenery. Are anymore episodes planned? Who was the cameraman? I liked the banner at the end of the program for Murphy Love Outfitters. Tell Bass Pro Shops that we want more.

Rich, That stuff was filmed last summer. You would be amazed at how much time I spent with those guys and how many re-takes and so on that happen and then it gets cut to nothing, and they apparently couldn't remember my name. LOL! The camera man was a freelance guy that they brought with them. Murphy was filming for Jerry Martins brother and son who were also hunting and none of that footage was used, at least on the TV show, but they are supposed to be adding it and some more footage of me to a predator video they are making. But, at least my dogs looked good. But they are pissed because no one remembered their names either! Edit: If anyone missed it, it will be on again Thurs. and Sun. My little segment is at the very end of the show.
I'm sure that the summer time footage will recieve a little criticism in certain places. And I'm pretty sure that I don't use the right breed of dogs, and Jerry Martins gun was too big, but that's what I do. [ March 03, 2004, 07:47 AM: Message edited by: Cal Taylor ]

Cal.Welcome to T.V. land. We figured two hours in front of the camera for two minutes air time. Real fun when you are cold, Tired, And hungry.
The fun part is when you are on the animal, And the camera man is not, And you have to let him walk. One of the best shots I ever made on a Coyote wound up on the cutting room floor. The writer who was supposed to take the shot screams "I cant see him". He kicks in the after burners. The camera man screams at me to take him. I catch up with him at 150 yards. Yelp the 22-250 with a 55gr V Max leaves a big red halo. To nasty for the front of a Wheetes box.

Cal (AKA "the guide"), I'll watch it again Thurs. and tape it just in case I blink again and miss a large portion of it. Bass Pro has it's priorities askew. 24 minutes of ho-hum turkey hunting and 6 minutes of rapid fire coyote hunting just ain't right. The coyotes didn't seem to object to the breed of your dogs. Nice work by the cur. I missed the Dorn.

The "Outdoor Channel"? I don't know if I get that one or not? I suppose you don't mean OLN, huh? Is the name of the show Bass Pro Shops, or what?
Movie stars, eh? Next, they will want us to "Sir" them.
But, wow! To think we knew Cal before he got famous!
Hey, Cal. Two words: Raise your prices, befitting a TV star!
Good hunting. LB

Leonard, It was on Bass Pro's Outdoor World which is on the Outdoor Channel. I wish I had some prices I could raise, but I decided not to take any more paying coyote hunts a couple years ago. That way I am free to dictate who I go hunting with and when. I can take hunters missing and screwing up deer and antelope hunts, but I just can't take it with the coyote hunts. Actually for such a short segment, I'm happy with the result. It wasn't too bad of footage. I hadn't seen the footage until it aired.
Sir Cal
Nope, that ain't gonna work,

I'm in the same boat. Must be a charactor flaw, or something? Hate to see somebody blow a shot on a coyote!

Dude, I was totally there! Just kidding V101. It was on again today, and I think it's on again Sunday. All the Wyoming stuff it shows was hunting with me. Over the course of a few days we killed quite a few coyotes, but they only show three from WY on the tv show. Like was discussed by Ronnie above, most of the footage don't cut it for TV. They are very particular usually.

Call, I saw the show today. I wish I was better with words to say how it made me feel.
As a life long caller, And after spending twenty years training Bird Dogs, And Chesapeake retrievers I was spell bound.
To see a talented man combine his skills with that of Dogs the caliber of yours moved me to tears.
The reason I say moved me to tears. Is that my nine month old Australian Kelpie ( Hawk) was run over and killed yesterday. I have never trained a Coyote Dog, But that was my plans for him. He was one of those rare few who seemed to know just what you wonted him to do.
I have a small connection at Bass Pro. I am going to use it to point out that anyone can turn on a e-caller, But how often do we get to see the skill that you, And you're dogs possess.
You made a old man very happy today. Please give those fine animals a pat on the head for me.
Ronnie

Wow, Ronnie, I consider that quite a compliment. I am sorry to hear of the loss of your dog. It seems with dogs that it's hard to keep the good ones around. I am fortunate right now to have a couple really good ones and a couple pups with some promise. They are about 10 months and I have used them to find coyotes and cats in traps that were on drags this winter and they sure like it. I guess what I'm getting at is that if you are interested you are welcome to one of these pups for free if we can figure out how to get it to you. They are cur crossed with a Dorn bred female. I hate to see a man that likes dogs without one.

Glad to be here too Leonard. You definately have the best place a guy could hang his hat. I'm awfully appreciative that Ronnie (or any of you other guys)would take the time to put in a good word with Bass Pro. Thats the fuel that will get more coyote hunting on TV. I'm not concerned with it being me on there, but at least there would be something better to watch than non stop turkey hunting.

Damn Cal you're offer of a dog is bringing back the tears. I can not express how much this means to me.
At the rate that my health is failing me. It would not be fair to the dog are you. For me to accept this true honor.
Cal I am not using these words lightly. I have had the flag of Texas flown over the Capital in my name. In recognition for work I have done with other handicapped hunters. I will hold the offer you made me tonight in the same regards as I do that flag.
Bless you my friend.
Pity he who knows not, The love of a Dog.
