Oregon auctions off bighorn sheep tags. This year a guy in Oregon paid $86,000 for one. I thought that was bad, but the record is $110,000 paid in 1994. The average price is $64,000.

Wow. And here I thought $25,000 for an elk hunt on the San Carlos Rez was outrageous. I guess it's kinda like Michael Jordan losing $100,000 on a golf game. It don't mean that much if you've got alot more where that came from.

I once thought I was being extravagent when a buddy and I spent our combined savings of $10k to buy territorial gold coins at an auction. I felt somewhat better when some knuckle-head paid almost a quarter of million dollars on a couple of coins with a face value of about $40 bucks.
When I went sheep hunting a couple of years ago I went to a sheep hunting convention where a bunch of outfitters were the main attraction. $4,000 to $12,000 for a 2-5 day hunt was the norm'.
