Congratulations and Happy Anniversary, Leonard. Because you've done so well and have attracted so much talent I spend waaaay too much time here.

Posted by onecoyote (Member # 129) on January 25, 2004, 07:31 AM:

Leonard, you've done a heck of a job. Rich said it, this forum has all the talent. Leave it to an old El Monte guy to put it all together, again great job and thanks.....

Posted by Leonard (Member # 2) on January 25, 2004, 09:02 AM:

Thanks for the compliments, all.

Yes, Rich. I can relate. I spend way too much time on this stuff, and guess who reminds me of it?

Good one Tim: "seen the light"

But, while we are at it, this is as good an occasion as any to ask for suggestions and criticisms. What can we do to make the place better, easier to navigate, more bells and whistles? (can't hardly have any less) Less happy talk, more meat and potatoes?

One thing is that the newbies seem intimidated by the stellar assembly of veterans. There isn't much I can do about it, but I wish they would wade in here and ask questions without worrying that they sound stupid. Nobody thinks that, I can say that with assurance. I believe the simple questions can develop into some real gems with spirited discussions.

Again, thanks everybody. You people give me as much pleasure as anyone else, I enjoy every minute of it.

Good hunting. LB

Leonard, you've created quite a little niche here in the "land of nod". No need for any bells or whistles or archives. Great forum, great bunch of guests.

Posted by Rich Higgins (Member # 3) on January 25, 2004, 10:33 AM:

Leonard, ever consider setting up a "Basics" forum? That would encourage simple and "stupid" (if there is such a thing)questions. Also you might check into the fact that a search for Huntmasters forum turns up nada.

Leonard, Congrats on a great year.
Rich does have a point, I just got a new computer and had to re-do everything and getting back to this site was a challenge. But it was worth it as always.

Regarding the search thing on Google or any other. I have about the same luck, and I don't know why. BUT. We have a genuine 'net Guru, in Bruce, so he might know what I'm doing wrong, and offer a tip or two? (big hint)

I searched using "Huntmasters varmint board" and it came back "Posse Country", of all things? And, that's another thing. Posse Country has a link to Huntmasters, as does Rocky Mountain Varmint Hunter, Cold Nosed, Lochi's Page, Steve Craig's Arizona Predator hunts, and I think Bruce's site, although I have not seen it? Maybe a few others, but point well taken, a Huntmaster's search doesn't get you here, and I don't know why?

Also, I think the suggestion of a beginner forum is a good one. I'll ponder it for a bit. As an example; if you look at the dark side, although they have such a thing, it does little to make an interested novice feel comfortable, in the intro. At least to me, it reads kind of like a put down.

I want something that these people who are lurking, will look at and say: "hey this is where I can get my feet wet without risking scorn."

I want them to feel welcome, and not feel inferior just because they haven't killed a bunch of predators....yet!

As I mentioned recently, our hits are way up there, and it isn't reflected in the number of brave souls willing to wade into the discussions. Maybe we can change that and still have solid content?

Good hunting. LB

Leonard,

Edit:

Never mind, I just submitted it to Google for you. What other search engines do you want it on?

Tim

Leonard,

You are right about it feeling like a put down... I read that and was like "no way".

As this last year's resident "dumbass newb", I think I have a fair grasp of how many of the lurkers feel, and have taken to more "just lurking" myself.
Even though I have recieved little, or no, scorn for my obvious inferiority. I just don't feel like I can add anything positive anymore (not sure if I ever did?).
That, and after two years of failure, I just felt like I had started sounding like a crybaby... really it's just that I am beyond help. [Wink]

I think a beginners section/forum is not that great of an idea.
We had that on the climbing site, and the forum moderator was constantly going to people, asking them to come answer a specific question.
Many times the other section's "expert", would go in and post a link, to where that subject had already been discussed in a specific forum.
She finally posted a list of about a dozen of us "experts" names, and asked that we check on her forum every time we logged in.

Many of the "expert" climbers felt they didn't have time to answer the same questions over and over, (and the PM standard) "go do a search" became the beginners forum mantra.

I feel like every forum here, is already geared up for the new guys to ask questions... and the forums we have now pretty much cover every facet of predator hunting.

The only forum I don't see that we might be able to use, is a classsifieds... but if you're selling a firearm, posting it in firearms seems to have been working fine.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

P.S. Maybe having been the "expert" before, is why you guys don't intimidate me (especially you Danny, LOL, you don't scare me one lil bit!)

Take care

This site couldn't be any better.

Perhaps, a thread aimed at welcoming new members and lurkers would encourage some of the new guys to tell us bit about themselves. Everyone likes talking about themselves.

Leonard. I have know idea where you get the patience to put up with the likes of us. Just damn glad you do.

After seeing all the wannabees, Wishtheywere, And neverwusses. That roam the other boards. I really appreciate the effort you put out for us. Know it has to be a great drain on you're time.

Thank you Leonard

Leonard - I enjoy this site as much (or maybe just a little more) as I enjoy any of the others. I know its an effort and can be a cash drain so my hats off to you sir. Keep the site small and simple, as membership goes way up it can be difficult to keep the overall quality that you have here. I miss the old names and experience that this site has in great abundance.

Thank you my friend

Leonard you have assembled the most informative predator hunting board on the internet. Thank you for a job well done. Take a week off with pay. You earned it.

You guys are way too generous with the praise. I'm just one of the boys here, I don't do anything special.

Strictly my personal opinion but I believe our members are among the best you will find. If you want to talk predator hunting, you are among friends. Got the "fever"?

I'm looking forward to another great year. LB
