Rich, I have talked with many of the quail hunters out here, and it is pretty common to see snakes in December, January and February and all the rest of the months.
If one is to be out in the desert country in the winter, be very careful around those rocks piles and such. They will get ya!!
I hate those dang things. ![[Big Grin]](biggrin.gif)

I dunno nothin' 'bout no Nebraska snow snakes, but I do know about Alaskan snow snakes.
They are a type of constrictor, they mainly attack backcountry skiers and snowboarders, and the occasional snowshoer. Their method of take down, is to grab the ankle of the speediest among a group of enthusiasts, from under the snow.
Most human victims are too strong for snow snakes, but their gear is often taken back to the snowsnake's lair, and possibly is discarded by the snowsnake as it does spring cleaning before it's hybernation period.
The Alaskan, living in deep powder and on steep slopes, is the largest and most viscious (some strong enough to stop you in your tracks). But snowsnakes can be found near almost any ski resort, worldwide.

Lucky people! No snow snakes here, it was 80º, today.
However, I know what Rich is saying. Last week I had a lot of frost damage to the shrubs around the house, got down to about 28º overnight. The Red Bananna looks pretty shabby, but will survive. Today, the lizards are out.
Norm, how you bean, dude? Is it true, South Dakota's State Tree is the telephone pole? North Dakota? Both?
Good hunting. LB

High for the day was +20. Many girls in short sleeved tops and no coats. But it was sunny and no wind.
I have no complaints.

Leonard,
Judging from the influx of Kalifornia Klowns to our prestigious Black Hills of South Dakota, I would have thought you would have noticed that we truley live in God's Country. We even have the stoney faces of great presidents in our history and the beautiful Badlands---it appears to us common folk that all you have plastered around in your area is Michael Jackson's pic every where you look, even OJ left your area. Should you choose to visit South Dakota, I wish for one of our snow snakes to crawl up your hinney and freeze you to a very serious chilling temp.
For your viewing--here are some of the polecats from out west.

Mrs. Norm,
Thank you, I had quite a bit of fun with your picture at work today ( I work for the local Electric company)
I attached your picture to an email, and wrote, "I've read all about the company policy on how to remove cats from a pole, but can someone please tell me what to do now?"
I sent it from my truck to a few people in Supervision, and then didn't answer the radio or cell phone for a couple of hours while they tried to find me before the Media did.
Thanks again!
Tim

Yes, Mrs Norm, thanks for the pic. That's an instant clasic. And, allow me to apoligize for my friend and neighbor, Michael Jackson. The little fairy is always getting us in trouble with the "Red Map". lol.
Good hunting. LB
