Hey Steve, I was wondering. Did they ever take care of that problem lion in Jerome? Since that's your neck of the woods I thought you'd know more about it than anyone. Thanks.

Hey everyone, I've been on the outside looking in for awhile and getting a few laughs here and there especialy the ones on JH...... I got the axe last week over there
Sorry Tony...back to this post, but about a different lion. Seems that the Az. G&F was keeping a secret back in the 80s and early 90s about a young male lion that took up residence in North Mountain Park in the middle of Phx. I was told that his territory covered NMP, camelback Mtn. and the Squaw peak areas. Theres plenty of feed for one, quite a few deer and javelia there, along with fox coyote and other small game and not to exclude dinning on the local pet supply.
I heard about the one your talking about Tony and was wondering also.
I guess after this post JH will know who he axed last week
I like your board Leonard, it doesn't seem quite so texas oriented Not that thats a bad thing... Bud Nadeau

Sorry to hear about things going sour in heaven. You should be proud, you've joined quite an elite group. I'm gonna have to go and stir some crap over there so I can join the club.

Welcome to the New Huntmasters, Dezertyote. Glad to have you on board. I can see right now what got you into trouble over there; your screen name! Actually, I agree with him about calling a coyote anything but coyote , but I sure as heck wouldn't ding someone for yodeldog or whatever? No, I'm not endorsing yote, song dog or yodeldog, but I won't pick a fight over something so minor.
Lions around Jerome, eh? I can believe it, perfect cat country.
Good hunting. LB

Thanks for the welcome Norm Tony I was already to come out but I've got 2 tradeshow exhibits to build and out the door by spring time. To be honest I'd like to be there right now, the weatherman ( lady) is saying that we're gonna have a little cooling off starting wednesday night She's saying 40 below zero come thursday night. I wont even try to start my truck in that kinda weather. Things brake easily in those temps. Tony, Norms right no need to go over there and stir things. Be a good boy

The Jerome lion is dead. Couple of hound men took care of him real quick. The only thing is that when they took the cat(a juvenal sp?), the void got filled real quick. There is another lion there working the area. Too many lions in this country. The good thing is that it makes for some great calling. Steve

Thanks for the welcome Leonard, Your right about the use of the word coyote. I generally use coyote as to discribe them also, but I don't need to be drilled for using another term. Maybe Steves out in Jerome hunting the cat right now. He'll have to nail his butt down to the ground in order to stay on that hill side to do some calling. I used to live over the next ridge in Prescott, and did alot of calling in the upper reaches of the Verde River. Great cat and fox country in the upper verde.

Don't worry guys, I think I've made one post over there in the last year. I never post, just take a look anytime something interesting happens.
Sorry to hear I won't be seeing you this time Bud. Make sure you give me a yell when you do make it out.
Thanks Steve.

Dezertyote, YES, some very good cat country on the upper Verde. Actually, some pretty good cat callin' south and west of Prescott too. How long ago did you live here? Ever run into Rick Jameson when you were here? I know he worked this part of the country for a while. Some great bear callin' in and around Sycamore Canyon as well. We had a big fire around the Cherry area. Havent seen a single track through that country for awhile, but it will come back as soon as the brush grows in and the deer return. Then the lions will show up there again too. Steve

Steve, I moved out of Prescott in the fall of 98. Used to do a lot of calling up and down the verde. Cats and fox were plentiful all though that country. Your right about south & west of prescott, I used to run a trap line all through the Bradshaws. One year there was one long canyon that I had to pull all my traps, had a lion that would eat all my catch's. I'd try calling him in when I was done checking and skinning for the day, but that proved useless. Never ran into Rick Jameson, did most of my calling either alone or with a calling buddie from Phx. I know where your talking about in Sycamore canyon, but theres probobly some reading this asking themselves, Sycamore canyon no bears there. Arizona must have 20-30 sycamore canyons.
