I sent Mr. Dougherty the hotlink to the board and he said he would stop in and look around a little. Hopefully he will stay long enough to say Hi.

Absolutely! Please check in, and say HI.

I vividly remember reading Jim's reports on the CVCA State hunts in Gun World, way back in the sixties. Seemed like fun, at the time. Little did I know, what was in store.

Good hunting. LB

Leonard and Danny, Mr. Dougherty suggested that I contact Leroy Janulewicz from the CSVCA. Do either of you know him?

I'm sorry to say, the name doesn't ring a bell with me, Rich?

He must be from way back, maybe Pasadena Chapter, which has been defunct since the late sixties, or very early seventies.

I have all the old State records, three file boxes worth, in my garage, and I can't remember coming across any reference to a Leroy Janulewicz.

Good hunting. LB

edit: another point is that he was definitely not a member since the name of the organization was changed to C S VCA. BTW, I'd love to have an old roster from when the membership was near a thousand. Strange that someone never saw fit to include that in the records? LB

Welcome Mr Jim Dougherty,, Look forward to your visit here.

Leonard,

Do you happen to have in your records, or remember the name Bernard Ray (Toby)Daniels, possibly even went by Booger Red? I don't know that he was a member or not, but he lived out there during those times.

I think the guy owes Jim some money and he's using Rich to track him down.

[Big Grin] JD has left the building.

Well, yeah.

But, it was exciting, while it lasted; right?

Maybe he's camera shy? You know, Gerry Blair had a hard time with the registration. It's happened before.

I'm not giving up.

Good hunting. LB

Rich, I remember Leroy Janulewicz, I've Called against him in a few calling contest. The guy was good, he acutally sounded like a rabbit lol. If he entered the contest he was a hard one to beat. He won the contest I got to help judge with Murry Burnham, like I said he was good.

I think he was a cop in Long Beach and he also worked at Turners Sporting goods in Long Beach. Maybe they would know how to find him. Last time I seen Leroy was back in the mid 80s. I was in the state calling contest the time Jim Dougherty made a special trip back to California to compete in the state championship mid 80s, I think I saw Leroy and Jim doing alot of talking, not sure who gave who pointers but Jim came in 3rd place lol.

If Mr. Dougherty sees this, I would like to thank him for influencing me in the sport of predator hunting and bringing to my attention the CVCA that I spent 25 years in. Then again, I could thank him for 4 wives and three divorces it has cost me in the last 40 or so years along with 7 varmint rigs ( trucks )a hundred rifles and shotguns, a million miles of dirt roads and a 100,000 dollers of gas money lol. True as it may be, I'd do it all over again. The sport of predator hunting is my life, Thank You Mr.Dougherty.

That clears it up, a little bit, Danny. First, I never knew hardly anyone from Long Beach chapter, except you.

Second, (correct me if I'm wrong) I think you are saying he was an exceptional caller, rather than contest hunter.

With a name like Janulewicz I should remember him, especially the eighties?

Good hunting. LB

PS, contact Bruce for directions, dude!

Danny, thanks for the info. I'll call Turners tomorrow and start the search. Mr. dougherty did say that he was with the sheriffs department. I will call them as well.
I'm picking Leonard up at the airport Friday. If you fly in I'll pick you up as well. We'll all ride down together.

Leonard, if you didn't go to the calling contest you would not have known Leroy, he was never a member of the Long Beach chapter. Leroy was before us and I think he was a member Pasadena don't know for sure. Rich, I hate to fly but thank you. I'll be driving my jeep, I love it and I know I won't die in a plane crash with it lol. Be seeing you guys this weekend, God Bless [Wink]

Welcome jdbowhntr,
Like Danny said, you have influenced alot of hunters over the years, including this one. I always appreciated your hunting articles all these years, and just want to say thank you.
