Turkey season is upon us which gives Sly Dog just one more reason(like he needs one) to remind me of last years turkey hunt. It's also the reason I'm posting this instead of him. He said if I didn't, he would and if you don't know him he can spin a tall tale or two.I'd rather you hear my version, but sooner or later you'll probably get his. Keep this in mind. Born and raised in the South till I was 23 I only turkey hunted once, I was a coon hunter and didn't fool with turkeys. Here goes....Sly Dog and I went about 2 hrs from Boise, found a pile of turkeys on private land. After getting permission from the farmer we went back to the motel, ate, played pool and had a few beers. That night we flipped a coin to see who would shoot the tom & who would shoot the jake. I won the toss so the tom was mine. Since we were hunting so close we decided to shoot on the count of 3, so, 1..2..bang. The next day we're in the field at dark, we set up the decoys and then we get set up in the woods next to the field. Just as the sun starts coming up we get our first gobble. Sly answers back, turkey answers, Sly answers. Pretty soon these big SOB's come cruising out of the trees like stealth bombers. Turkeys are everywhere, the Tom hits the ground & makes a b-line for the deke and goes into a full strut 25-30 yards RIGHT in front of me. It looked to me like Rick was going for the tom and by now I had forgotten about the coin toss so I was focusing on a jake. I heard him say 1,2. Just about then my Jake moved and a leaf was in my line of sight. 3..BANG. I saw a jake about 20 yards away flopping around and Rick turned to me and he said "Did you shoot?" "Ugh,no." "Why the hell not." "Ugh,I don't know, that was pretty cool though, that was better than a video." At the moment I don't think he was real happy with me , but since then it has provided us and many others with a good laugh. [ April 04, 2003, 12:26 AM: Message edited by: Lil'dawg ]

Great story Lil'dawg! You can come to Pennsylvania and hunt turkeys here in May. I won't make you flip a coin, I 'll just put you on a differant hill
That way, you'll only have you to answer to! Plenty to go around.

I want you all to know that this was not the first time Lil'dawg didn't shoot. This was the third time he failed to pull the trigger on a critter. This is beginning to be a pattern. He hasn't shot a coyote yet because he didn't see him till I was shootin at the beast, eventhough it came from Gene's side and was 200 yards when I saw it going away from us...OOOOOOOyes and the turkey thing, well you would have to have been there to fully appriciate the rest of the story.
OooAnd Gene what did your wife mean when she said: Its a bad deal when a verticly challenged man is also horizontaly impaired??????
Members of the board, what do you think she ment??? LOL See you in the morning Gene

Slydog, do you know what color's a Georgia bulldawg uses to paint camo on a shotgun?
Red and Black.
Ain't dat raight, Gene.
Gene, I know Turkey season is almost here. My question is are you going to pull the trigger this year, remember it is 1,2,bang.
All kidding aside, well not really.
On a serious note good luck this turkey season. Also good luck on Monday, I just wanted to wish you well, and tell you good luck.

Thanks for the well wishes Tom, I appreciate that. I liked your Georgia Bulldawg joke, I got a good laugh out of that.
P.S. That would make a cool looking shotgun ! [ April 12, 2003, 12:19 PM: Message edited by: Lil'dawg ]
