I would like to know what over the counter ammo you would recommend for long range shotting of ground hogs & coyote for a 243.
Thanks for any help

Welcome to the NEW Huntmasters, Edd.
(asking the wrong guy, here)
Most of my guns have never seen factory ammunition, but I have used Remington 80 gr. Power point before, seemed to be okay? Other than that, absolutely no data. Sorry.
However, somebody lurking around here is sure to be using factory fodder, and likely has an opinion to share....hello?
Good hunting. LB

I havn't messed with a .243 in a few years and when I did I loaded my own. I always loaded 60 -80 grainers for my varmints. I know theres 55 grain factory ammo.Theres gotta be 60 or 80 grainers available which is what Id try for long range shooting. ![[Smile]](smile.gif)

Maybe this will be helpful?
I view the search for accurate and effective factory ammunition for centerfires in the same way as selecting the right ammo for a twenty-two rimfire.
Buy as many different brands and bullet weights and point configurations as you can find, and test every one the exact same way; on paper. At least you will have a couple of the most accurate candidates for actual field trials.
If this sounds involved, well, it is. And it shows why so many shooters handload. Unless you have a semi-auto that is flinging brass all over the place, I'd recommend getting into reloading as soon as possible.
Good hunting. LB

Ahem, well, I'm not sure about what exactly you are looking for, but my .243 seems to like the winchester 100gr. powerpoint and the Remington Corelokts 100gr. Those cost $10.87 at the local walmart per box of 20. They pack a punch that is for sure. Good on deer too. Also, I have used the Hornaday 75gr. HP and the Winchester 70gr speer tnt and they work well with my gun also. Those I get off of grafs and sons website. I think it's www.graf.com or something like that. I think their prices and shipping is ok, too. Plus, it's sent right to your door. All of those kill well if you do your part. Its just all what you want your cartridge to do. I've found though, that any cartridge with a .243 (at least that I've used) sometimes makes a nice softball size exit and all of them shoot about the same range and accuracy. Hope this helps some. _v101
