Hi,
The big reason I would like to open this subject is personal. Looking at some of my own posts it has occured to me that I sound like a presumptuous ass at times. If you know my background perhaps you'll forgive my lapses.
I'll be 59 in April. My dad was 3/4 Cherokee 1/4 Scot. Mama a full blood Yaqui from Hermosillo, Sonora. I am a hybrid, an Arizona boy by birth, Oregonian by choice. I'd rather bleed than sweat so I went North.
My first "big" game, an antelope, when I was 11 years old. I shot him while under a worn, dusty army blanket from about 30 yds. with a .219 Zipper at a stock tank. My grandpa showed me how to rub antelope crap all over the blanket and how to lay downwind. My first called varmint was a grey fox taken with a .22l.r.. I was about 15 years old.
These things ruined me for my true avocation, brain surgeon/astronaut.
I hunt, and kill, elk and deer(elk w/bow, deer w/gun). I don't shoot a lot of varmints. I was brainwashed, at an early age, "If you're not going to eat it don't kill it.". It's hard to break the habit. I do love to see and photograph them coming in!!!
This is who I am. Who are you?
Thanks

well Bud, I se that you aren't gettin many replys to this thread so I don't mind tellin my secrets.
I'm the dreded 40, been huntin critters since my first gun at 6 and killed my first yote and fox at 6 with a single shot rem mod 513T and still have it. My Father is full blooded Crow indian and my Mother was German, What a combo. My dads dad is who started me off hunting and my Mothers dad was my mentor. My Mothers Father was Howard J. Johnson a self taught gunsmith and machinest who worked with Fred Barnes, P.O.Ackly and Elmer Kieth in Utah durring WWII. My Grandfather hunted with and built guns for Fred Barnes(of Barnes bullets) untill his death. One of note was the 458 BJ express. My Grandfather also worked for Redfield scopes untill 1954 when He and Don Burris quit and started Burris scopes in Greely Colorado. As you see I had some of the best role models to grow up around and learn from and that explains my loyalty to Barnes and Burris. I had my first trapline at age 10 and was a seasoned trapper by age 15. I droped out of school at age 14 and got a GED and went on to college. Got a degree in wildlife bio. and then one in animal husbantry. I worked as a guide for Chuck Davies in Colorado for 4 falls and owned my own guide service for 10 years. Much of this overlaped. I worked for 5 years for ADC in Neb. and Colo. then went to work for myself as a wildlife control Tech. first in Colorado and then moved to Idaho, I became the first WCT in Idaho and devoped the permits that are still used by trappers for WC in Idaho today. I sold my buisness and retired at 35 and went stark raven mad in 2 months so I started (Raven's Idaho Youth Hunter Program) to introduce youth to hunting. I hunt big game with a passion and when not hunting big game I persue coyotes. I could go on and on.
well now you know the short story, want more?

By the way the rem mod.513T was not a single shot from factory but my Grandfather said You only need 1 shot if you make it count. I have'nt changed it, kinda like it the way Grandpa made it.

I think maybe I'll join in
-Full blooded Filipino, 1st generation American -28yrs old -BS in Nursing from Loma Linda University -Currently practicing Critical Care (Adult and Pediatric ICU,Trauma, and E.R.) BTW, I have a great respect for the .22lr...not many people survive that round. -Shot BBguns in the backyard since i was 16 and still do. -bought my first .22lr in Nov.,2002--Remington M597 and it is my only rifle...for now... -Went on my first coyote hunt 2/1/2003!!! Actually, first hunt in my life ever. (I got nothing that day). -Big time bass fisherman. Got first place and big fish in my first tourney in 1999-Lake Arrowhead -Nobody hunts in my family. Dad likes to pier fish.
That's pretty much the big stuff in my life. I save lives all day, yet I want to learn how to shoot coyotes...Would you call that ironic?
