Jay, I was looking for that book several years ago and if I remember right $30-35 seemed to be the price. It was pretty hard to locate a copy also. A buddy of mine had a copy so I read his and never bought my own. I have no idea how difficult that book is to find now? As far as a book in excellent condition like yours, who knows maybe fifty bucks? Complete guess on my part.
I wonder if Bruce K. might know what that copy is worth?

Rob, that brings back some old memories. I remember talking to a guy that had a lion in the back of his pick-up truck at Damm Corner, Lake Isabella back in 1965. The lion attacked a horse up in Wolford hights, I remember him giving me a business card I carried for years. His name was Steve Matthews I thought, but now that you bring up the name, it could have been Matthes. That was a long time ago. [ October 11, 2005, 08:39 PM: Message edited by: onecoyote ]

Jay, I bought that book from Abe Books 2-3 years ago, and it was $35.00 if I remember right. I did a search on Abe's and they no longer list the book.
I have been trying to locate the book by Steve Matthes, and like another post, they are like Gold........if you can even find one.
I talked to Hi-Lonesome Books, and Dutch told me he has been looking for that book for years, and yet to find one. He said if he could get the book, he would publish it again.
Jay, if you want to sell that book, you might try e-bay........no telling what it would bring over there.
Take care.

I like it when you guys look for hard to find books. My parent's bookstore specializes in that exact type of book.
So I wrote Dad and asked him if he knew of the Steve Matthes book you are asking about, he replied:
I found one copy of the book which was signed by the author. It is hardcover without a dj and Fine for its condition. The book is very scarce especially signed and in hardcover. I can sell it to one of them, if it is still available to purchase for $235.00 plus 3.50 postage to us and then another 3.50 postage to the purchaser for a total of $242.00. I can order it as soon as you let me know. There is only 1 copy available. dad
If anyone is serious in wanting this book, just drop me a note and I'll forward it on to Dad.
