I'm a writer wanting to personally contact anyone who has successfully, intentionally, hunted cougars/mountain lions, without using hounds (calling, trailing, baiting...). Yes, I'm in contact with Steve Craig.

Welcome to the New Huntmasters, Coyotl. Glad to have you on board.
I think we have a few members that could qualify, me not being one of them. I've killed a few, but I wouldn't claim it was intentional, nor would I want to try. It's an extremely low percentage proposition, for the most part, and would bore me to death.
Yeah, Steve calls and targets lions, and employs lion vocalizations, etc. I think he uses dogs in some capacity, not sure? Maybe only for tracking?
Most people don't have the population density to make it worthwhile, or in some cases, like here; they are (currently) a protected species, so why bother?
Hope you get what you are looking for.
Good luck, LB

Hello Ed. Did you get my E-mail? Been busier than a one armed wall paper hanger! Maybe we can get Bob Mc to reply to you on here as well. Another great lion caller and he hails from California too! There is also a guy from Walla Walla Wa. by the name of Bob Ruse that calls a few lions as well. I also have a friend from Laporte CO. by the name of Major Boddicker that has called quite a few lions in his lifetime, and he uses all hand calls too. He also makes a pretty good hand call as well! If you contact a guy by the name of Bill Martz, the maker of the Wildlife Tech caller, he can put you on to several good lion callers over this country. One of them is from Oregon if I remember right. The guy called in 5 lions in a 4 month period and he didnt know the first thing about calling lions! He did have a good teacher though! Bill's number is 603 622-2800. Hope you are recovering well.
Steve
