Some people think that the coyote represents the greater challenge. What do you think?

I think the only challenge with cats is getting to a spot where they are at. I think if you are in the right spot, they are easy to call, and not very suspicious. But on the other hand, I think you have to be close because they won't come very far.

That's right, Cal. But, it's knowing, and that's something that isn't obvious to everybody. There is a skill involved, don't you think?

I think Cal nailed it. They just won't go far to answer a call. The trick is getting close enough to them that they will answer, with out getting so close as to spook them on the way in.

Leonard,
It isn't that I believe cats are easier, I truly believe we have more of them, than coyotes, so I think my chances are just as high (or low) of calling a cat (big or small).
I can say that I have seen two bobcats come to the call, I have not seen a single coyote.
We have excellent thick brushy terrain, which should be good habitat for cats.
I have seen several of them while hiking or driving, but have never seen a coyote in the same areas.
I'd rather shoot one bobcat, than ten coyotes anyways.

I don't know about yanking chains, but I do know I can get alot more coyotes then I can bobcats. The area I live has lots of cats in it and they are NOT always easy to call in. In my opinion, bobcat hunting is much more of a challenge then coyotes any day. Do cats come in from far away? I can't really answer that one. I usually see them when I'm not expecting it.....like hello cat....where did you come from? Another big advantage I have, is I can hunt them at night, although I have called them in the day. If bobcats are that easy, why didn't every guy in the club I was in get a cat bowl? That's only 21 bobcats, because it ain't easy that's why lol......remember, only my opinion, Good Hunting.

That is funny! ![[Big Grin]](biggrin.gif) And kinda what I was thinking too.
I did say I have seen them, and not seen any coyotes (I never say I haven't called any).
In the case of the first one, it was it's spots that actually gave it away, and it's white face was unmistakable in the brushpile.
In the second case it was the fact that the bobcat sat there for at least 15 mins as we were glassing for deer, and tooting calls while eating lunch... once we spotted it we hunkered in and got serious, but it was already too late, he'd seen us. After 15 more minutes of calling it just lost interest and walked away.
Both were right about noon, for what it's worth.

Leonard, yesterday morning I sat in the open with Phoebe and called with a little red balloon (blow it up and slowly let the air squeal out). Tyler was on a ladder with the camera. I heard nothing and of course saw nothing behind me. I did see Tyler raise the camera and begin filming. I flopped over on my back and kept calling while Tyler filmed about 5 minutes of this guy sitting and watching from 20 or so feet away. Phoebe never detected the cat either. They're not hard to call, just hard to detect sometimes.

We have a large numbers of cats.If you are close to the cat it will come to the call.I take my share of cats but I do not call long enough to call large numbers of cats.Cats do not become call shy like coyotes.More than one time I have shot and missed then called the cat back one minute latter.
